Harold Ramis Talks 'Ghostbusters' Return

One of the big questions that remains is, who will Columbia Pictures be callin' for their third installment in the Ghostbusters franchise? With the a script being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the original announcement had said the original busters would return, but nothing has been confirmed since. A new interview appeared online this afternoon with Harold Ramis, who confirms the return of the "core" players. Read on for the skin-skinaroo.

Earlier this week, Harold Ramis stopped by MTV News to chat about his new Jack Black comedy "The Year One" (in theaters June 19). But we also asked Ramis — who co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" movies and, of course, starred in them as uptight-but-lovable Dr. Egon Spengler — to dish details on the upcoming reboot.

Ramis promised that all the old core players will take part in the updated version, including Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz), who co-wrote the original films. "We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," Ramis said. "We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters."

At the moment, Ramis is waiting on a first draft of the script, which is being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, two writer/producers on "The Office," who also wrote "Year One." "Gene and Lee, both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new 'Ghostbusters,' " Ramis said. "I'm consulting with them, as is Dan Aykroyd and [original director] Ivan Reitman.

"Bill Murray is just waiting for the truckload of money to arrive to get him out of his office," Ramis joked.

After taking a jab at his old friend, Ramis assured us that Murray is definitely "in," even though the two haven't communicated directly about the project. "I haven't talked to him about it," Ramis said. "I want to talk to him about it eventually. I think we just need a script, because he's the thorniest of the group."

What about Winston Zeddemore?? I'm tired of people thinking there are only 3 original Ghostbusters. I want Ernie Hudson back as well. He's just as important to me as any of the others.

They should just make a joint Ghostbusters/Evil Dead movie over a weekend and kill off every single character so we never have to hear rumors about GB3/ED4 ever again.

NO NEW GHOSTBUSTERS!!! No actual Ghostbusters fan wants that! Just have the originals, and noone else. Send them out in style, otherwise it's going to be absolutely terrible.

I basically have an open mind for sequels and remakes/reimaginations but concerning GB3, like mostly everyone else here, I think it's safe to say we want a GB3 but certainly not the kind with "new" ghostbusters. If 3 is centering on "new" guys, who needs it? Most of us won't, for sure.

Id like to see Seth Rogen as a Ghostbuster. Im not sure who else Id want to see. And yes I want to see Winston Zeddemore back as well. I cant help but notice that when they do the covers of the dvds they always leave him off.

if there are teenage Ghostbusters, i will shit my pants. they need to get good, known actors for the new Busters. not some of these new "up-and-coming" assholes. i refuse to have a new Ghostbusters series revolve around a bunch of Zac Efrons.

I hope everyone at sony/columbia chokes. They should be loaded onto a space shuttle and shot towards the son. It's bad enough that everything is getting remade to be crappier, but now they are trying to ruin the ghostbusters just because they killed all their other franchises. The ghostbusters should not be touched. No NEW GHOSTBUSTERS. That's like trying to replace the beatles with the jonahs brothers. Seth Rogen is a passing face. Ghostbusters and apatow comedy is two completely different things. Anyway even if they were good actors which they aren't why replace the ghostbusters? Why not just replace rocky, or jack sparrow or jesus. For fcks sake leave ghostbusters alone.

You know... I knew this was coming. Actually, I'll be honest: As far back as when they pumped out the last Ghostbusters movie, I predicted that if there was ever a third in the series, it would either center on the children of the originals or a whole new crop of Ghostbusters. Hell, even the new game is about training a new member of the team. Can't say I wouldn't see it if it's written this way, but I think we all know that Murray, Ramis, Akroyd, and Hudson have gotten a wee bit old to be reprising these roles in any kind of good way. (Hell, is Annie Potts still sexy?) And as for Ernie Hudson? Yeah, Columbia seriously needs to stop treating my man like a second class citizen. He's been there since the beginning, where's the love?!

Ghostbusters was 25 YEARS AGO! If they're gonna do this, of course they'll need some new blood. I have no issues with this. As long as the original cast are involved in some capacity (the more the better) then I'm happy. And like anything else, if it sucks, it sucks. So what? That does not diminish the integrity of the original for me in any way. Just happy for another chance to see some Ghostbustin'. Bring it on!

For Ramis to do this,I personally would at least like him to shave his beard, cut his hair, and loose about 100lbs.All Murray needs to do is change his hair color back to black and loose the beard if he still has one to.The other two would be fine I guess, although even Dan needs to loose some weight before they start filming this.I am personally waiting to see how the game turns out before I start thinking about the new movie their maybe gonna make. But yeah,no new guys, please.

Weaver & Murrays baby Oscar from the second one should be one of the new ghostbusters

Undeath, Indiana Jones was 29 years ago so should he be replaced as well? Alien is 30-31 years old, so should we see Ripley Jr. if they make an Alien 5? Get real. If the actors are unable to return, then the franchise should be retired. BTW, what exactly is the original cast too old to do? Walk up stairs? Carry back packs? That's all they did in the first two films, so new blood why?? ORIGINALS ONLY!

It was kinda obvious that a new younger group of Ghostbusters would take over but now its confirmed, the news aint that great. The orginal guys surely still have it in them to be the leads of Part 3. All they have to do is make some jokes about their age and how their "too old for this " bla blah and carry on. Oh, and whats a GB film without Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver?

ttop33
1:18pm, March 29, 2009

Well rambo worked and no body was cracking jokes about his age. This is going to be crap. No true fan wants new ghostbusters. If that's the only way it can happen then don't make it. They wont be getting my money. And I will convince anyone I know not to see the movie if we have new ghostbusters. It's so clearly a cheap idea it tastes like sucking on an old penny. Bitter and cheap. Like the son idea for indiana jones, that was clearly a dumb idea before they tried it. The writers and studio are too lazy to be creative and go a funnier root. Plus sony is crap and only cares about money.
