'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Reboot Script Review
Wednesday, March 25, 2009

If you head on over to Latino Review you can watch their pretty entertaining video review for Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema's A Nightmare on Elm Street script, which is dated January 14, 2009. Running in as 110 pages, the screenplay was written by Wesley Strick with revisions by Eric Heisserer. The original Nightmare was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself. Chime in with your thoughts on the review and enjoy a little "tribute to Freddy" inside.

"You're all my children now"----Nightmare on Elm Street II.

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like a douchefest. Like it's been lamely dumbed up?

Fucking weak . . I can't stand this new "video blog" trend. Some of us are at work and can't watch. They should at least include a transcript.

Video news sucks! Some of us have to sneak and watch it at work anyway! Nooooo!!!!

It sounds very interesting and scary! Can't wait.

Sounds interesting, but I'm already getting that Platinum Dunes vibe that preyed on (and essentially dissolved) the respective "personalites" of the TCM and F13 franchises.

I agree with letaylor, from how it's described, it sounds like a typical CW teen drama where the teens just happen to be offed by Freddy. There's a lot of spoilers in that link, though. If you don't mind, check it out, but if you'd rather wait to see the movie, I advise you skip it.

Honestly, that sounds much better than I was expecting it to be

The ambiguity revolving around Krueger's past may be a nice twist, but I've already accepted that this is gonna suck hard. This review signals another stock of cliche ridden characters, and plenty of room for trite MTVesque filmmaking. But of course the biggest red flag is that it's from Platinum Dunes.

Interesting... I'm slightly more bumped, but I'm also kinda worried.

Some of you thought FvJ was bad? This sounds like a bad episode of scooby-doo. "In fact Freddy hardly speaks at all in the script". Oopsies-PD forgot they're not making another simple slasher with a fucking mindless drone with no dialogue for a lead. And the whole 'Freddy MIGHT be a child molester, then again maybe he's just REALLY PISSED and seeking vengeance for being wrongfully accused' angle is just horrible. WE ALL KNOW HE IS A CHILD MOLESTER. I've accepted the fact this is going to make a mockery of the franchise long ago, now I'm sure of it. Letaylor I'm with you completely dumded down for the CW generation. Mark my words, they will ruin any sense of mystique needed to make Freddy scary. WE DON'T NEED TO BE BEATEN OVER THE FUCKING HEAD WITH EVERY GODDAMN DETAIL OF FREDDY'S BACKSTORY-NOT KNOWING EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM IS WHAT MAKE HIM SCARY

It sounds like its going to be like the Halloween remake with the background sequence. I dont like it one bit, and Freddy doesnt talk that much in the movie? COME ON! everything he said was epic! it made the character.

I love how people bash the shit out of something before its even filmed. Fuck, a director can make or break a script, so the flaws in the script can be more than made up for. For you fuck tards that are such "hardcore" nightmare fans, I think you forget that Freddy's didn't start the bugs bunny routine until Nightmare 3, so im glad he doesn't say much. They want to make him scary again like 1 and 2, not a fucking wise cracking anti hero like he became in the rest of the series. And why does it sound like a CW version ? Because their are hip teenagers in it ? Believe it or not, the teens in the original were hip for their time too, god forbid we fucking modernize anything. OH NOES THE INTERNET IZ IN DA MOVIE IT WILL SUCK !!!! The point of a reboot is to make it new and different .... if you want everything to be the same, then just watch the original and quit you bitching ....

fuck you convicsik lol why don't you find a fucking ORIGINAL horror film to get excited about. It will suck because there is absolutely NO NEED to 'reboot', or 're-imagine' (dumb down) NOES for a new audience. This has CASH GRAB written all over it.

Guywiththegun

Right, they're making him scarier by making him a falsely accused victim out for revenge that doesn't ever talk. "This is God" better be in it, but the new Freddy already sounds much too weak to ever say something that awesome.

p.s. even though Freddy didn't go all 'bugs bunny' til pt 3 like you say convicsik, Freddy had fucking GREAT lines in 1 and 2. 'You've got the body, I've got the brains', 'You are all my children now', 'THIS is God', 'I'm you boyfriend now...' all GREAT lines, with a dark sense of humor (NOT the bugs bunny caricature of himself in the later films). 1 last thing-you're telling me Heather Langenkamp was hip?

O.K. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET REMAKE. The best NIGHTMARE'S are 1, 2, & 3. The rest stink. I can get it to this if it's not going to be a (funny/scary)movie. This could be cool if it is flat out horror, and as long as freddy is not doing stupid stuff like stretching his arms out a mile wide, turning people into pizza, or haveing a part play over and over untill you are wondering whats going on. Freddy needs to be a slasher killer in the dreams, not a magical wizard, giant snake, puppet master, cheif, or anyting like that. Thats what killed him off at the box office. Leave out the "dark humor" and all the magical crap & make him a slasher in the dreams, if not this will be another flop like FRIDAY THE 13TH.

Well it looks better than I thought it would.I'm officially excited!Hope they cast some good people especially for Freddy and Nancy! I think they should just get Robert back.who cares if he is older.I can't imagine anyone being Freddy but Robert!

Sounds like everything is going in the right direction and sounds like a great script that pays its dues to the original. Once again, all my faith is in Platinum Dunes.

5:11pm, March 25, 2009

I agree that having Freddy not talk much is the way to go. Freddy barely spoke in the original and he was much scarier. Having a slasher icon tell jokes is just fucking dumb.

CW generation? Haha, some people just crack me up. Yea, we are the CW generation because every single one of us are internet using, cell phone, texting, preppy, dumb kids! Right? Haha. Just to let you know, I am listening to John Cougar Mellencamp on vinyl right now? Wait. Does the CW generation even know what vinyl is?

There were several things I was worried about when I heard they were 'rebooting'(if ever there were an addition to our lexicon to be reviled) what is still one of my favourite movies. However, having watched the video from Latino review(?, not even gonna ask) I'm glad to hear that we're about to fall prey to every single one of them. If (and I reiterate IF) they go in this direction they'll have a disaster on their hands, gutless, brainless cookie cutter crap that'll doubtless rip out all the brains, subtext and sheer invention of the original. As for the previous comment regarding a directors ability to make or break a movie, I've seen a couple of making of's for music videos that this guy directed. The word douche does not even begin to adequately describe a man who seemed to be brazenly trying to claim patent on cinematic tecniques that date back to Buster Keaton. Another brain dead music video hack deciding he wants to cut his teeth in features? I know, let's give him something beloved by millions, at least when he shafts it to high heaven glue sniffing twelve year olds might like it. It's the goddamn Hitcher all over again. (Incidentally, for anyone still somehow managing to tolerate Platinum Dunes conveyor belt crushing of the classics, check out Eric Red's blog to get a picture of precisely how far their heads are up their own asses). Joy. Death to the remakes!
