It looks like Warner Bros. is finally happy with Spike Jonze's adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are as the first trailer was finally released. You can view it by reading beyond the break. The film will combine voice performances, live-action puppetry and computer animation to dramatize the ad-ventures of Max, a rebellious young boy who runs away from home after a fight with his mother and finds himself in a forest where the wild things roam. You can see Max and co. in theaters October 16.

I agree that this trailer does not appear to be horror, but that does not change the fact that this movie looks great. "Juno" meets "Son of Rambow". I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Awesome. To those who think this doesn't look good or are making comments of how this is off-topic... did you have a childhood? Seriously?

Doesn't look like much has changed since the test screening I caught in 07, which is encouraging. Although I loved what I saw, it's a legitimate response to be on the fence as to whether or not BD should be covering this; then again, if the Twilight franchise is getting coverage, then this shouldn't be excluded. Can't wait to see the finished product.

If this film is horror then so is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Monsters Inc, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and countless other children's films. A movie doesn't have to necessarily be horror to be appreciated by genre fans. Many cult, sci-fi, disturbing dramas, and other bizarre and extreme films should be covered by genre publications. So many people, especially on this site, are annoyed by PG-13 fare aimed at the mall loitering juinor high crowd but giving coverage to children's films is just plain obnoxious. If you're interested in this sort of thing there are plenty of sites out there that offer coverage of these "amazing" family friendly films you're so fond of. I suggest you seek out those sites and leave BD to the horror fans.

Trailer Looks Great!

Horror or not, this looks AWESOME. This doesn't seem like something that would appeal to average adults or teens...more of the indie crowd..Maybe that's the reason for the delay.

i LOVE THIS!! BD, thank you for putting this on the site. people wine about anything. if this were strickly a drama with NO monsters then i'd be inclined to agree w/ those saying "this is not horror". not everything on BD has to have heads being decap'd or buckets of blood in it. i STILL can't believe people got their panties in a bunch over your coverage of TWILIGHT and not this movie. this movie looks AWESOME!

While this may not be horror, Where The Wild Things Are was a catalyst for all of us horror fans. From this we have derived our fascination with monsters. It is very much a dark fantasy much like Pan's Labyrinth. This belongs on BD 100%. To me, WTWTA is where horror is introduced to children in an approachable fashion. This is where the dark begins in fantasy. If you don't understand that you probably never read it (or had it read to you) and/or were born after 1990.
