Nearly two years ago (or has it been longer?), Bloody-Disgusting's BC was lucky enough to catch a test screening of Warner Bros. Pictures' Where the Wild Things Are, which he says was not for kids and downright creepy. At that moment I decided to cover the pic here on the site... but the question still remains as to what type of film the final product will be. After tons of reshoots and retooling, it's quite possible this adaptation could become a crappy kids film. Until we get more info, check out this super sweet one sheet for Spike Jonze's pic slated for release on October 16 (hopefully it sticks this time).
This was one of my favorite books as a kid but I have to say I REALLY REALLY hope it does take a creepy turn! That would rock! But it would also be good to see it with my kids now if it isn't.
mrdisgusting, would it be that surprising to you if it ended up being a crappy kids movie? it's being adapted from the book, which is targeted for the younger audience: preschoolers and the youth. Are you expecting Feast IV or something?
Either way, it's a great book and is being directed by an excellent dude. neither of which are associated with horror. hate to poop on your parade.
I think this is going to be great. The poster looks great. The kid I believe looks exactly like what Max would look like in live action. I'm all for this.
I have such high expectations for this that I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment. All the "retooling" cant be good. I wanna see the one bc saw!
love the book and i'm excited about this. Spike Jonze is more than capable to handle this but its definitely not "horror". Not sure about the poster being genuine, the kid screaming suggests it could be fake.
If any of you are worried about this film then go here and read this interview with Spike Jonze.

I also suggest Mr. Disgusting to give it a read too, it's very informative on whats happened to the movie, Spikes intentions and vision. It laid all my worries to rest.
I caught a test screening in 07 as well. It was far from completion, but even without finished effects it was quite an experience. A very unique and complex adaptation, just what you'd want from Jonze. After all the retooling it's hard to say what the final product will be, but they'd be hard-pressed to turn what I saw into some crappy kids' flick. Thanks for the link inksb; totally missed that interview.
