It's no secret that I'm a fan of Catherine Hardwicke (wayyyyy before Twilight), so I am always looking forward to her next project. But after seeing Twilight, I don't really understand why she'd stay in the same genre that she's not all that great at? It was announced tonight that she'll now be tackling another young adult series, this time about "wolf" and "bird" teens.
Having put her stamp on "Twilight," Catherine Hardwicke is in talks with Sony's Columbia Pictures to develop and direct a film adaptation of another young-adult fantasy series, Maximum Ride.
The five-volume series by James Patterson chronicles six teens, known as the Flock, who are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird. Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.
After doing some digging, we learned that the books are quite dark and quite possibly worth covering here on Bloody-Disgusting. It'll be interesting to see how this develops.
Don Payne, who delivered the abysmal Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer to Fox, is writing a screenplay.
