Warner Bros. is bringing Stephen King's landmark horror novel It to the big screen in an adaptation being produced by Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment. Dave Kajganich (The Invasion) has been hired pen the script, which follows a group of kids called the Losers Club that encounter a creature called It, which preys on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle. The novel is set in 1958 and 1985, though the feature version will be set in the present day. "It" was the best-selling book of 1986 and in 1990 was turned into an ABC miniseries that starred John Ritter, Harry Anderson, Tim Reid, Annette O'Toole and Richard Thomas. Tim Curry played Pennywise.

Ok on one hand I'm excited they're doing a new adaptation of the book, but if the first one left some things out then a big screen version is going to leave out even more of the novel.

about fuckin' time too...

They should just do the kid's story. If it's a hit, they can do the adult part.

Thank Christ. I loved the ABC mini-series... when I was 10 years old. Not so much now at 29. While still possessing a few great moments of coma-inducing clown imagery--it blows. I think Seth Green should play the adult version of Richie Tolzier just to fuck with people's heads.

I Love IT!

Cool, actually I was just think the other day that this should be remade, It's kind of dated now.

This is well ripe for a remake, but the only hesitation I have is that The Invasion was an awful retread.

Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Hopefully they go for it and have pennywise really get his hands dirty. I want blood!

That is some awesome news!

I like JGrayland's idea. Make one film about the portion of the book when they were kids and then make a sequel the following year about when they're adults. Otherwise I'm afraid the film would feel rushed if done in one two hour movie.

cool! I can't wait to see what they do with it!

This will be very interesting to see how they will do this movie. I love the book. So I will be watching for this one.

this is pretty awesome, but if there's one thing they need to do with this, it's CHANGE THE FUCKING ENDING.

H2Hype

Yay! And, I agree with slapyou, they NEED to change the ending.

While there is no way that they are going to be able to fit even half the novel into a 2 hour movie, this is awesome news! The mini-series creeped me out as a kid, but hasn't really aged well in my opinion. It's refreshing to see a major studio do a re-make of a film that could be improved upon. Instead of horror masterpieces that are great already.

I also agree with JGrayland. That is an interesting note. I think in this day and age were people don't know how to be patient for the gore and they want gore and nudity within the first ten minutes, the writers will give them what they want and that is sad. They should indeed break up the film. Otherwise it will be rushed and i will get a headache, as i always do with these remakes. Crossing my fingers here!

Another remake, now there's a surprise

i'd LOVE Frank Darabont to direct this but..not going to happen. i'm all in for a movie version of IT. i think they should DEFINITELY have TIM CURRY reprise his role as Pennywise. i'm not scared of clowns, at all, but he definitely made HIS clown a terrifying monster/creature/villain.

I personnaly think that if they do get this made, considering that it is still in the early stages and that shit can happen, I mean look at how many awesome films have yet to be released or even thought about, that they should do it Kill Bill/ Lord of the Rings style. They should direct the whole thing together too save money (Lord of the Rings style), then split the movie into two or three volumes or parts (Kill Bill style). Like have the first part release in the fall and the second part release in the spring and if there is a third, which could happen cause the book is over 1,000 pages and has alot of material in it, it should be released in the fall again, since most horror films do better in the fall or the spring, with the exception of The Strangers which did very well with it's summer release. Either way, I am excited about this cause I love both the book and the movie before hnad and think that a big screen version will be scarier and more demented than the first, since it was made for tv they had too cut out King's true vision and I really want to see that little kid get has arm ripped off when he puts it down the drain pipe, or whatever you call it.

This is going to have to be a 3 hour movie. And that is hacking it up pretty severely. But I like the idea of an updated and larger budget version with more substantial actors than Jack Tripper and Dr.Frankenfurter. Can you imagine Paul Giamatti as Pennywise? It could be truly sinister this time around.

Yes Georgie, it floats. And soon... YOU'LL FLOAT TOO! AAAAHHHHHH!
