'Prisoner' Hyped as One of the Hottest Scripts in Hollywood

"One of the hottest scripts in town..." Those are some big words to come from the Hollywood Reporter this evening who have announced that Mark Wahlberg (The Lovely Bones, The Happening, Boogie Nights) is attached to topline a dark thriller entitled Prisoner, which is said to echo The Silence of the Lambs and Seven. Big words indeed. You can read all about the project inside. Do you believe the hype?

One of the hottest scripts in Hollywood right now?

Mark WahlbergIt's a dark thriller from a writer who just signed with a major talent agency two weeks ago -- but has the attachment of Mark Wahlberg and the interest of nearly every major studio in town.

The previously unknown Aaron Guzikowski, a Brooklyn native who flew out to Los Angeles just a few weeks ago and signed with Endeavor, is behind "Prisoners," a project said to have echoes of "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Seven."

The story concerns a Boston family-man whose 6-year-old daughter and her best friend are kidnapped and then takes matters into his own hands by in turn kidnapping the man he suspects responsible.

Guzikowski was noticed two years ago by management company Madhouse Entertainment, which then worked to develop this script through dozens of iterations (the company also will produce).

But all that toil seems to paying a quick dividend.

The Endeavor-repped Wahlberg, a Boston native who also plays a distressed father in Peter Jackson's upcoming "Lovely Bones," attached himself to the script shortly after the Endeavor signing.

Endeavor declined comment on the project.

Studios, meanwhile, have been clamoring for rights the past few days, but Endeavor is keen on attaching a director before making a sale. A director is expected to be attached next week.

And a rags-to-riches tale may continue to be written for a long time after that.

Man he's such a crap actor and that premise sounds so generic. 'The Silence of the Lambs and Seven?' More like Ransom meets Death Sentence. In other words, bollocks!

Horror Writer, I couldnt agree more. I'm so conflicted by this story, is they claim it's the hottest script in Hollywood, why would they attach Mark Wahlberg? There are hundreds of better actors. That's like casting Nicolas Cage in Season of the Witch.

The only reason its considered so "hot" is the possibility it could play on parents fears of having their child kidnapped and then trying to take action for it. I have a feel the ending will be him kidnapping the wrong person and having his daughter die or something along those lines.

Mark Wahlberg will kidnap his own daughter and her friend, and will then kidnap himself to find out why he did it.

The reason its so "hot" is because TAKEN just made a killing at the box office, and Endeavor rightly capitalized on Wahlberg's relentless pursuit of an action franchise to call his own.

"The hottest script" in Hollywood would never make use of Mark after the disastrous "The Happening" and "Max Payne"... those movies sucked hard!

I don't know about The Hottest Script?? It just sounds like a lot of other revenge movies. Just have to wait and see!!

f*ck this movie and give me the Lovely Bones.... and yeah it does seem to look like another revenge flick BUT dont judge shit till it comes out. Also since well... even an amazing script in shitty hands could go very very bad

Slashtastic

Maybe on the surface it sounds just like another revenge thriller, and maybe the brief synopsis is just that; the cover of the book.

You're all missing something very important - it doesn't matter that MAX PAYNE sucked, because it made money. Studio execs don't sit around thinking "Boy, our last big hit really was an idiotic movie, so we should make something different." They think "Boy, our last idiotic movie was a big hit, so we should make four more just like it!"

mark wahlberg is a fuckin jackass, what's the big deal about him, what great film has he starred in within the past 10 years that makes him be in every damn movie now?

hegemon13

First of all, the plot does not have to be original for the script to be awesome. It is the telling of the story and the development of the characters, not the plot, that really makes a good movie. Seven wasn't really all that original in plot. It was the combination of a dark, relentless script, a unique shooting style, and great performances that made it a classic. Oh, and Max Payne did suck, but it was because of the script. It had a lot of style, and the performances were fine. It was the utter lack of anything interesting happening that made it suck, along with the complete senselessness of the few things that did happen.

The only way the script would be hot, is if it were on fire, literally. Give me the matches, I'll get it real hot.

uuhhhh sounds nothing like seven or silence of the lambs. With Mark on it it could be good but it sounds like just another action thriller.
