Columbia Pictures President Responds to Apatow 'Ghostbusters' Rumors

It's amazing what happens when you have a conversation at the San Diego Comic Con. My friends and I spent a good hour talking about how cool it would be if Judd Apatow took his crew and slapped on some proton packs and started their own Ghost Busters agency. It took only a few hours for our conversation to hit the web as a FACT. Well, here we are eight months later and Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad has officially commented on the non-news. Read on for the skinny.

"It's not true," says Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures to the LA Times yesterday. "We have some great new writers working on a new script, but Judd isn't involved. Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we're certainly taking that as a good sign."

What is interesting is that he reports that there are new writers on Ghostbusters 3. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were announced to be writing the screenplay back in September.

You can read more at the LA Times, or just watch the fan-made teaser trailer for the third film below. Happy 25th anniversary Ghost Busters!!

I dont like the idea of the originals just being a cameo I think that is bunk. I think they should be the main part,or start a totally new cast one or the other. I think it should stll be a comedy, but the ghost stuff to be scary as hell. Also no one beats Bill Murray the rest of the cast whatever would be good to see them but Bill forsure. I do like the idea if they were gonna go with a new cast for it to be the apatow crew. Except for that jackass british guy that was in Sarah Marshall. He sucks ass!! Totally into this though either with the originals as the entire movie or all new no cameo's that would be stupid as hell.

sounds great! i would just like to see it again.I grew up loving them and they still are fun to watch. It would be nice to see a new one.And if Ivan Reitman has anything to do with it I'm sure it will be great!

I don't want Apatow or any of his crew anywhere near this thing. Bring back the original 4 and just let them go at it. If the movie's well written, it doesn't matter that the central cast is a little older. They're what made the first one great in the first place. Besides, there's nothing funny about Seth Rogan or any of those other idiots anyway.

I agree, an Apatow Ghostbusters would be stupid. "Dude, I'm so fuckin baked! Am I really seeing this shit, or are they really fuckin GHOSTS?!!!". Masterbation and drug references throughout the whole movie. No thanks! Apatow's only great movie was Heavyweights(loved that one). Especially for being as out there as it was, Ghostbusters was always really family friendly(I'd compare it to the Goonies or Gremlins).

But I bet you just love the attention and publicity, don't you? Just like your "for the hell of it" casting list for the Nightmare remake that you KNEW people would take off and run with. You ask why I never have anything constructive to say. It's because of nonsense like this.

Whew! What a relief! I did not want the Apatow crew having anything to do with this movie!

Original four, or no movie. Don't ruin the legacy by making it with anyone else.

I would hate to see the Apatow/Seth Rogen crowd involved with GB3. Keep it with the original team of Ivan Reitman/Dan Akroyd etc and please bring back Sigourney Weaver. Whats a GB film without her!!

magnaderalpha

It's great Judd's not involved. I'd hate to see a scene where Seth Rogen's masterbating and pretending his junk's his Proton Pack. "Oh yeah, uh, I'm fuckin CROSSING THE STREAM!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!!". That would be so terrible! LOL! Keep those guys away from this movie!!

As much as i love ghostbusters and i am ready for a GB3, I wont see it if the original cast is not the main cast in the movie. This goes for annie potts as well. (God i loved her in GB2). If there is going to be a new cast then it better be a remake of ghostbusters or it wont be the same.

i only want to see GB3 if all 4 guys are back as the main characters (the opinions are unanimous, listen up producers!)

i agree with djd and majority of the othe rpeople....i too grew up watching and loving gbs the movie and loved the cartoon.... i hope they just use the four original guys.(no cameos) and i am sorry i dont see anything funny either about seth rogan. (yea ill give the supporting role he did in 40 year old virgin and thats all. knocked up was ok)........that would be cool if they did bring back annie potts and rick moranis (sigorney weaver already said she wont be in it which is stupid she aint doing anything)...they should also bring back oscar all grown up or like a teenager. (no take that back bc he would be 20 today.).....who ya gonna call ghost busters!!

No original cast, no thanks. Just the thought of a movie without them doesn't make a lick of sense.

Good! Aptow's movies are all the same... and extremely overrated.

You people do realize this movie would turn out as bad as Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. If they kept the four original cast members in throughout the movie. I for one like the idea of a new team of Ghostbusters, I think that the original cast needs to be in it for more than a cameo. But by the sounds it's gonna be pretty much the same story as the Video Game. I dunno, I'm just happy to see another Ghostbusters movie!!
