This past weekend Jackie Earle Haley was on hand at the Wonder Con to talk about his forthcoming role in Warner Bros. Pictures' highly anticipated Watchmen adaptation, but that's not what's been on our minds. The rumor that started with our fun little casting call was that Haley would be starring as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Line Cinema's latest reboot set to lens this April in Chicago. While the rumor has already been crushed, Haley does talk about the possibility that maybe in the end, he'd still end up as the razor-glove-wearing child murderer.
He hasn't really thought about it (shyeah, right)...
THIS IS THE GUY !!!! Jackie would be great. You can tell from this interview that he seemed interested if approached. CALL HIM NEW LINE. You wont be dissapointed people. THIS Guy can act and be a scary Freddy we all want to see again.
They need to get someone who can act the ass of the more than likely shit teenage cast they have lined up so this guy is probably best suited for the job. Plus the fact he isn't a household name yet is a good thing.
Dude, this would be amazing. it's kind of sacriigious thinking anyone but Robert would do it. But if anyone could step into his shoes. It's Kelly Leak.
i agree w/ Protecious. whoever plays Freddy should be a total unknown or a relatively unknown. it will allow us to see a new Freddy and NOT "oh, that's _______(fill in blank) PLAYING Freddy".
i'm starting to come around to this idea, not one will be better than Robert, and it will always be his role. But its going to happen so it's roberts role but this guy would be good I think.
As long as Shia Lebouf isn't Freddy. Hopefully they update Freddy's mask to look like he was actually burned instead of swirls in plastic and latex. Change his wardrobe too; he looks like a candy striper.
Of course, yes, nobody could ever replace Robert Englund. Freddy and his face, his entire person are forever linked. BUT if we need a reboot, and if we need a new Freddy, then it's probably best not to use an actor that's well known already.
I still think Robert Englund should return as Freddy. Just like we need Doug Bradley to come back on board for the upcoming "Hellraiser"-remake.
Just look at "The Hitcher"-remake from a while back. It wasn't a bad movie, but Sean Bean never even came close to the classic performance of Rutger Hauer in the original. I came out of that movie feeling very disappointed. In a few years from now, people will have forgotten all about the "Hitcher"-remake, if you ask me.
So please, bring back Robert and make this "Nightmare" a new classic!
If Platinum Dunes really want to please the fans, they'll cast Englund. It's not his fault the later films weren't scary. Robert can still do a scary Freddy and that would put my ass in the seat.
DJBLACK1313. You are so right. Why is Robert Englund apart of this conversation people ?? He was an awesome Freddy in the 80's, but he will NEVER be Freddy. Your argument is pointless. Discuss what the REAL possibilities are. And if you don't think Jackie can match or top the Freddy character, your NUTS!! Go watch his work ? He is a WAY better dramatic actor than Robert Englund. YEAH, I JUST SAID THAT !!!!
If Robert Englund was younger, I would bet a dime or nickel for him as the role as Freddy. The problem here is that he is to old. And did not Englund himself say that he's to old for the role?
You can read on his face before the question even fully comes out he knows where it's going I thnk he has forsure been approached and had some talks about it and maybe even has it already but the studio doesnt want to give away the key csting right away. That is a press day from hell they will wait till watchmen comes out everyone from what I hear will be drawn in by jackie in it then they will say guess who reddy is.
Paul Reubens.... he likes little kids. He's perfect. Plus he would be a perfect match for Platinum Dunes.
