After his successful bout with the giant creature in Cloverfield, director Matt Reeves is ready to take on young vampires in Let Me In, his remake of Tomas Alfredson's vampire film Let the Right One In. Production Weekly reports that filming is scheduled to begins this May for the film that follows Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire. Overture has slated it for release on January 15, 2010.
Noooo! Why can't mainstream America grow a fucking brain and watch and enjoy a foreign film. It will probably star Miley Cyrus and one of the Jonas brothers, fucking Hollywood! Let the Right One In was the best film of last year (with MAYBE the exception of The Wrestler), and it didn't even recieve a Best Foreign Oscar nomination. This was better than Slumdog and i am fucking sick of foreign and horror films getting the shaft from the academy. I remember a couple of years ago when Oldboy was easily the best film of the year and guess what, no nomination. And what else, they are doing a shitty remake of that masterpiece as well.
The original English translation of the book given by the publisher (before the movie came out) was "Let Me In." That's actually what my copy says and I was kind of pissed off since "Let the Right One" is just a cooler phrase. It is definitely my favorite movie of last year, and there are a few things from the book that weren't used, so hopefully the remake will be all right. Good news is that the original will be out on DVD in a few weeks!
Is calling someone a hack the new thing to do when you don't like a director?
As for fuadramses725, the movie didn't get an Oscar nomination because the foreign country it hails from has to put the movie up for nomination to the academy, it didn't, it actually chose Everlasting Moments, which is supposed to be a pretty good film.
I do agree that this shouldn't be remade though.
The "new thing to do when you don't like a director"? No i dont think so. Matt Reeves is just a hack, deal with it. By the way, I am quite aware of how the Oscars work.
if they want to remake it for american audiences, make it exactly the same, but they speak english, even so, i think that would take away from the film, i cant imagine how shitty this will be. let me in?
Never said Reeves was good, but he's not a hack. And you made it seem like it was terrible that it didn't get a nomination from the academy, when in reality it probably would have if it was run differently.
Hell, there's nothing anyone can say to stop this... As long as they don't sacrafice story for a rating (the book and the film were VERY dark), I'll be okay...Although I doubt they will try to appeal to the 18+ crowd... Shame...
What a strange change to make.
Especially given the title is the reference to a Morrissey song ("Let The Right One Slip In") that is quoted in the book.
Lyrics go something like:
"Let the right one in/And when at last it does/I'd say you were within your rights to bite"
this is the one movie that i believe is actually perfect and should not be remade. the original is just such a great film, i hope "mr. shakey cam" reeves can actually make this good.
Well, if they choose to simply re-adapt the book it could be interesting. After all, the swedish film cut the entire last section of the book. I'd like to see to massive vampire-zombie rampage from the novel on screen.
the title change sounds stupid. i don't know, maybe it will grow on me. i LOVE the original. i don't see how this remake can come even a fraction close to what the original inspired in me. we'll see if Matt Reeves is chewing off more than he can chew, here. CLOVERFIELD is one thing but a quiet, simmering, touching and ultimately satisfying drama/horror movie is another animal all together.
i mean everything about the original worked. i dont even know if the american film would have the same impact based on the language alone, the film in Swiss is just so damn captivating. im just hating the sound of a remake even more and more i look at this article.
This is getting fucking rediculous... The movie JUST came out, why do they have to remake it for. Just go fucking see the original, its amazing. I totally agree with Fuad up top... I mean its horrifically terrible enough that spielberg and fucking will smith are remaking the masterpiece that is oldboy, not this? Its crap... Its total bullshit.
