Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray March 10th from Magnolia Home Entertainment is the incredible vampire drama Let the Right One in, which was snubbed at the Oscars this past weekend. Today we got our hands on a deleted scene from the film that follows Oskar, a 12-year-old fragile and bullied boy, who finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl he befriends, who moves into his building. When Oscar discovers that Eli is a vampire it does not deter his increasing feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent. When Eli loses the man who protects and provides for her, and as suspicions are mounting from her neighbors and police she must move on to stay alive. However when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can.

This movie was outstanding and I was quite disappointed with the Academy for not even a nod to this. Whenever anyone starts raving about Twilight I always steer them towards this far superior Vampire film also based on a far superior book.

Fantastic film! Loved everything about it...except for the 12 year old muff shot. That wasn't needed. One of the best vampire films though, with a GREAT ending!

I agree it was a good movie, but it's a shame they left out so many good chunks from the novel.

ultrazilla, it was not a muff shot. I won't say any more though because I don't want to give anything away for anyone who hasn't seen it. Also, unfortunately the movie was ineligible for the Oscars. Had it been eligible it would have received a Best Foreign Film nomination for sure, and probably a win.

This movie is perfect in every way. I can't wait to get it on blue ray

Why was it ineligible MikeScott22? And I thought it was a muff when I saw it too. Will definately be watching it again so will try and work it out. My favourite film of 2008.

Anyone know if this DVD release on March 10th is worldwide or is just for America? Hoping it comes out in the UK at the same time.

The movie is amazing. It just blew me away. The way they hadn't really used any fancy special effects nor music made everything so realistic even though you had the vampire element in the movie. :D Personally for me this movie was also scary because the scenery is very similar to Finland. It gave it the feeling that this could be happening in your neighborhood. -.-"

I loved this film, too. The ending has to be one of the best endings ever in a horror film - absolutely stunning visuals. :) Having read the book first, I did have some problems with the film. Someone already mentioned the "12 year old muff shot." That was such a mistake in the movie. If you read the book, you'll understand. When I first saw the movie, I thought they would have the "flashback" where Eli projects her/his past into Oskar's mind - "Be me," I think Eli says. This would explain the utterly out of place "muff shot" in the movie. But they never had this flashback. In my opinion, it should have simply been cut from the film because it left people thinking "What the hell was that all about!?!?"

What an awesome movie! I'm so impressed as this vamp movie is so different from any other vamp movie i've seen. In fact, when I started watching it, I had no idea where it would go. But the way it was directed, made all the characters seem like real people. Also, when the bodies get found, it was again done in a real-world way. I've not read the book yet (I sure want to), but I will get it soon. As for the 'muff' shot, I'm no pedophile, but when I saw the shot, I asked myself, why would the director show that on a 12 year old girl...well, my curiosity got ahold of me and I went through that scene, frame by frame. I now know why the shot was in the movie. It was to drive home a certain comment that the girl said when she first met Oscar, and again in a later scene when she gets in bed with him (it's not what you think). As for the flashback, I wish there was more to the images as they weren't very clear about what Oscar was supposed to see and feel. All in all, I highly recommend this movie to anyone that's interested in a fresh look at vampires, and the timeless consequences of being a vampire. This is a DVD that I'll be adding to my collection. GREAT JOB!

PS...I also love the little things, like the fact that snow on the vamp's hands or feet don't melt, verifying that the vamp is a dead and cold thing...LOVE THIS MOVIE!

They really don't make movies like this anymore. There has been only one other movie that has really gotten to me like this one; a movie that I can get down on my knees and with a tear in my eye say I love everything about it. Before I saw this absolute gem of a flick, "Azumi" was the only other film to do this to me. I can't wait to own this movie.

I was majorly disappointed with this film, as someone else has said it misses out so many good parts of the book - IMHO they gutted the book! :( There is a still a great adaptation of the novel to be made (and although I hasten to say it, the US remake could be it!), as unfortunately this was not.

lol...when will all you readers figure it out? The book is ALWAYS better than the movie! There is WAY too much information in a book to be able to put in a movie...for example, if the book is about 400 pages long, that same movie (uncut) would run approximately 4-6 hours...are you gonna sit in a theatre for 6 hours to watch a movie?!? The only books that ever translate fairly accurately into a movie, is if the book is a short story, or a novella...example, Hellraiser was a very good movie and that was based on a short story by Clive Barker called 'The Hellbound Heart" in one of his Books of Blood. That movie translated well from short story form...Hell, it's so popular, that their making a reboot of the original Hellraiser. So, the end result is this...you will ALWAYS be disappointed with a movie from which you've read the book. Another HUGE difference between books and movies is that when a writer writes a scene, s/he doesn't necessarily have to go into all the details, s/he just has to spark the imagination in a direction of thinking, and our imaginations will go from there...movies have to paint that same scene in great detail for us to recognize the scene from the book...and most of the time, the movie scene differs drastically from what we envisioned in our heads... I will contend that books WILL ALWAYS BE better than movies. Anyone who disagrees with me has no imagination, patience, or both, to sit through a book...I feel sorry for you. Those of us who are readers will almost universally agree with my statements. Cheers,
