Behind-the-Scenes of Romero's '...of the Dead'

While the film is still looking for a title, George A. Romero's ...of the Dead is already getting some PR behind it. I personally think the title is cool and should be locked down, but who knows what they're planning. Anyways, beyond the break you'll find a new behind-the-scenes clip from the film, unfortunately is was shot by a fan at film festival so the quality is pretty terrible. It's better than nothing. The plot of Romero's latest zombie flick involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.

this is already a million times better than the abysmal DIARY! this looks like it might be quite good! thank goodness he cast a leading lady who CAN act (judging from the footage). the lead lady from DIARY was terrible.

This man does NOT know when to quit. Romero is a hack, we all know it. Sure, Night and Dawn were very good for what they were, and Day had it's moments, though really, call it a day George, and perhaps try something else for a change. Danny Boyle made the last great, and needed (and relevant) 'zombie' film, all others have either been pale imitations or simple unnecessary. However, I do hope this new one from Romero works out well though (even though it will be average at best, as always).

We used to have to wait a decade or more between Dead films, so the arrival of this one so soon after Diary ( or even Land, for that matter) is pretty fucking great. I can't wait to see this!

Romero is one of the most original, groundbreaking filmmakers ever to grace the horror genre. His work literally changed the course of movies in 1968. He will continue to make films that people will appreciate for years to come, if we are lucky. Yet some clueless child actually refers to him as a "hack". Oh well. It takes all kinds.

Well, that's me told then... and no, I am not a child, sir Pike man sir. Romero WAS one of the most, etc. etc. though not NOW (or for the last 20 odd years or so as it happens), therefore not need to swoon for such a has-been.

7devonapes that proves how much of a disconnected person you are unlike most directors he's trying to intentionally get a message through with his directing. Yes it might not have the same greatness of dawn or night of but still it's still filled with social staire and if you go back and look at the directing he did on those two movies you would see beside day he hasn't tried anything different with his movies because Dawn's script was pretty bad and so Was Night's but the message they got through of the time was powerful kind of like land's theme of self destruction with fiddler's green where all it took was training and trusting the wrong people to take down years of planning in 5 minutes*cough*worldtradecenter*cough*. Dairy was about the modern internet's obession to no matter what keep filming now matter how bad it gets because you know that video they made would have sold billions in profits and you would be one who bought it. I'm 19 years old and I believe that Romero's been doing the same job he's been doing for the last 40 years except 40 years ago the subject matter he dealt with was able to connect with his audience more then our generation of gun porn action adventure fest has dulled us to his message.

Kaname - I understand what you say and why you defend Romero as such, though if ol' George is so keen on delivering such 'messages' through his work, why do it with zombies, of all things. Why not make a meaningful drama or something, as a meaningful zombie film has been done many times before, and not just by him alone. It seems George continues with this subject matter as he knows it's 'safe' for him to do so, as this is what he is best known for and therefore takes no chances on a sure fire 'hit' of sorts, even if the film is crap (which I'm it will be). You also forget that this is NOT Romero in his prime - the man is 69 years old this year and therefore playing it safe. Romero is like a broken record, and I truly wish he would work in either another genre for a change, or at least give us something not 'dead'.

I am always excited to see a new Romero zombie film. Even a "bad" Romero zombie film is better than alot of the other zombie trash they have been putting out lately. "Automaton Transfusion" anyone? Bloody-disgusting, do you want to comment on that film?

DIARY sucked SO much fucking ass it wasn't funny. anyone who tries to defend that crap......really. i enjoyed LAND. but i agree somewhat with 7devonapes that Romero really IS past his prime. i hope THIS new movie can restore some shine to his star because as of now it's faded.

7devonapes: I can't fully get with what you said because 'Creepshow' is one of my all-time fav flicks and Romero's arse is responsible for it. I do however think 'Diary of the Dead ' is a steaming pile of shit. Following the disappointment that was 'Land', he's 0 for 2 in my book as of late. I hope this one brings him back to form.

Romero did make a drama. It was called Knightriders. And it was really good.

or we can look back at the other films Romero has made, Bruiser, Knightriders (as stated By Caligari_Nosferatu), and The Crazies, Creepshow and Creepshow 2. The man has been at it for YEARS, and ALWAYS sells, Diary wasnt as good as I hoped, but still a good watch, Land was better than people give it credit for, I just think that Romero is the Spielberg of the indie/cult scene. All his movies sell....

Land and Diary had their moments...but I do not compare them to any of Romero's earlier films. I like the idea of Romero's newest...of the Dead. The video did little to sway my decision. I will see this movie when it comes out. Hopefully it will open in more than just a few select markets.

I'm so excited for this movie! I hope it gets a better release than Diary did and I hope we will find out the title and release date soon!
