Come on Now! The Predator Crash Lands in 'Pride' Drama

Is this the new future? A place where we take original literature and piss all over it? I guess one day we'll be seeing some movies where zombies invade Edgar Allan Poe's classic "The Raven" changing the face of movies forevermore. While last week we read about Seth Grahame-Smith's version of "Pride & Prejudice" entitled Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, now Elton John's Rocket Pictures will take these Jane Austen adaptations to a ridiculous new level - space. Read on for details on Pride and Predator.

Elton John's Rocket Pictures hopes to make the first Jane Austen adaptation to which men will drag their girlfriends.

Variety reports that Will Clark is set to direct "Pride and Predator," which veers from the traditional period costume drama when an alien crash lands and begins to butcher the mannered protags, who suddenly have more than marriage and inheritance to worry about.

Shooting will begin in London later this year. John exec produces, and his Rocket partners Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish are producing.

Clark, who directed award-winning short "The Amazing Trousers," wrote the script with Andrew Kemble and John Pape.

"It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre by literally dropping this alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect," Furnish said.

John will supervise the music, as he does in each Rocket-produced film.

The company is in production on the CG-animated "Gnomeo and Juliet" for Miramax/Disney; James McAvoy and Emily Blunt voice the title characters. Rocket is also behind the Sundance series "Spectacle: Elvis Costello With ..."

Is this for real? It seems like something you would read on April 1st or on some low-life website that doles out lousy info. Very wierd and not in a good way.

I just hope all the folks who are always complaining about Hollywood being out of ideas because of all the remakes direct the same sort of ire at all these idiotic Jane Austen/public domain hybrid projects. There's nothing wrong with adapting a classic work that's in the public domain to the sci-fi or horror genre, ala THE TEMPEST to FORBIDDEN PLANET. But just adding zombies or aliens to PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is about as lazy and unimaginative as a writer can be. At least when something is remade (even poorly), it's a reasonably faithful retelling of an original work. And when a public domain work is adapted to a different genre, filmmakers with any class have enough respect for the original material to call it something else. As a one-off joke, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE with zombies (or at least the notion of it) is modestly amusing. As an entire subgenre which uses up resources that might otherwise be devoted to more deserving filmmakers and projects, it's just moronic.

Coming soon to a theatre near you: Alien v Predator v Sherlock Holmes.

I guess nobody from this production company uses the internet. You'd think if they were going to rip the "old story + modern ridiculous element" thing they'd at least pick a different book to throw things into instead of the one that is already being used in a decently hyped and currently developing project. Oh well.

This is really crappy marketing right here. Why waste the time with the Pride and Prejudice part of the films? They must think the average Zombie/Alien movie fan knows what that book is.

"Is this the new future? A place where we take original literature and piss all over it?" Haha, are you making the allusion that you read and appreciate the work of Jane Austen? Because I highly doubt it.

oh! and do they have the rights to use the Predator in this movie?

I hope that Pride and Prejudice horror movies become their own subgenre. That would be amazing.

How much of a fag would you have to be to be upset by this? Just seeing trailers for those queer-acolypse tea-sippin' anorexic Kiera Knightley-starrin' crumpet-fests makes a part of my masculinity wither and die. I'm lovin' that someone wants to fuck with that shitty sepia-toned literary/cinematic genre by throwing some exploitation aliens or zombies in there. Plus, if you think about it, for all the people that consider that crap to be literary classics or masterpieces, Austen could've been considered a hack who shit out the same basic story over and over again. I can just picture a review from a critic of the time - "And Miss Austin churns out yet another tale of repressed passion and class differences. How terribly original."

This sounds interesting, different, humorous and dare I say original? Bring it on. Hey and you can't cry about it being a remake.

Imagine this as a new horror subgenre. God knows we need something to replace the "torture porn" fad. The Austenhorror genre. A whole genre based on the idea of putting various horror stuff in Jane Austen books.¨Imagine "Northanger Alien" and "Nightmare on Manstreet Park", it could be awesome!

"How much of a fag would you have to be to be upset by this?" Well, I personally have no interest in banging dudes, but I don't like the idea of this flick. Why? Because it's a joke someone's already done. I couldn't care less about the "literary sanctity" of Jane Austen's works, because I haven't read them, and probably won't. How much of a hack do you have to be to take a one-note gag someone else has already done and throw money, time, and effort at it in an attempt to show how clever you are?

Guywiththegun

Lets see . . they remake the past over and over again. Now all they can do is mash it together. Can these people think of something new? Is this really impossible for them? What kind of fucking hacks are working in the film industry today?

Who, in a board meeting, said: "Let's take the book Pride and Prejudice and adapt it into a move, but let's put a predator in there and have it rip them to shreds." ? If I was in that board meeting, I would have fired that guy. Dumbest idea ever!

Dude I thought that this was a joke, and now I am reading it on every horror site. This is quite honestly the funniest idea ever. These fuckers must of been on some heavy drugs to come up with this idea. LOL maybe they can take LOLITA and have her be like a vampire who must sedeuce men. giv me a fuckin break.

How you gonna fight Predator with a muskett rifle?

Completely stupid idea. As both a fan of literary classics and the Predator, I'm just not amused. Some things just don't go together. Period.

You're right Wlad; sometimes things don't go together, even if both things are good. You don't put chocolate sauce on a steak, you don't go down on a beautiful woman while you're playing your favorite video game, you don't mix cocaine with crystal meth. You get the idea. Shit sorry - don't do drugs....that don't go together. :(
