Update: This is the best domestic opening day ever for an R-rated horror-slasher pic. Update #2: The latest estimate brings Friday in with $45m over the four day weekend. I know many of you are sick of hearing about Jason Voorhees at this point, but come on, even if you didn't like the movie, it's still pretty awesome getting to see him on his feet again slaying at Camp Crystal Lake. This morning we just got our hands on the official "projected" box office numbers for this holiday weekend and was floored. According to reports, New Line Cinema's Friday the 13th reboot is set to make nearly $20m on Friday alone and estimated to bring in $60m over the four day holiday weekend. This has to be one of (if not the) biggest horror openings of all-time. You can read on for the box office report and don't forget to write your own review of the film in our user review section of the film, head to our forum and rank the F13 films and read all of our 13 Days of Jason. It's pretty safe to say a sequel is on its way.

That will almost guarantee a sequal(s)!!!

Awesome news! It should at least break $50 million over the 4-day weekend. I knew it would be huge though, because when I saw it last night, the theater was more crowded than I've seen it in a long, long time. I hope it manages to pass $100 million over its entire run...that would be amazing. Bring on the sequels!

i went and seen it last night that was a damn good movie only thing that i didnt like is that they kind of put jason as a pot farmer in it but still a damn good movie glad to see jason back

Awesome (though not unexpected) news! Despite some of the griping here and among "real" critics, the three audiences I've seen it with thus far have all reacted very positively to the movie, and each time there's been a huge crowd waiting outside for the next screening. I knew last week when every store I went to looking for the "special edition" DVDs was sold out that American consumers were primed and ready for a new FRIDAY THE 13TH.

I just want to say this once, rather than get into it everytime someone raises the issue - Jason is NOT a pot farmer in this movie! There is weed growing in his part of the woods around the lake, but he isn't tending it or protecting it. He's protecting his territory, and the weed (among other things) keeps bringing people onto the property. What's funny about the notion that he's a pot farmer is that Jason's spent much of his adult life killing anyone who comes onto his property, but no one's ever said, "In this movie, Jason's a real estate developer, because he doesn't want anyone trespassing on his land!" Even when we aren't smoking it, weed apparently screws with horror fans' perspectives!

Seriously, this is so important for us horror fans. The small-minded suits are all going to clear their desks Tuesday and scream "HORROR, I want horror!" This will ignite two years of new horror films, although, probably more remakes...

Have we ever seen an opening even close to this figure?

Horror wise.

No, the small-minded suits are going to clear their desks Tuesday and scream "REMAKES. I want REMAKES." This is awful, awful news for original material, and any self-respecting horror fan should be bowing his head in shame.

If a remake is done well,i dont mind it.Just dont let Rob Zombie near it.

Fucking pathetic, let's remake everything and anything now. The dumbing-down of society continues as I watch the downgrade.

There were cops at the theater I went to and the show sold out way in advance. The theater was so packed and noisy that it kind of took away from the movie for me, but I cant wait to pick up the flick on dvd. By the way me and the group I cam with all felt like grandfathers at this thing. Lol where were the Friday the 13th/Jason movies when i was a teen? All i got was scream and Bride of Chucky lol.

while I'm happy that it made this amount and not surprised, the the traffic for this movie was beyond anything I ever seen before, no joke. ANd I've been to Harry Potter midnight openings and Siderman 3 opening night. That I was outside the movie theater for 20 mins before I could get parked, when we got in there the show was sold out, and not only that but the second show they added was sold out too. Thankfull my friend and I were the first people in show 3, yes show effin 3. And before that movie started this show was also sold out. Sadly, the movie was pretty boring, had really bad pacing and I even saw a couple walk out. So yes, awesome that this movie did well, but the movie may of killed the franchise before it even got a chance to start up again. I hope not, I can watch one of these every other year, they're bound to accidently get it right.

outstanding news. I caught it last night, and REALLY want to see it again already. leave it to Jason to resurrect horror on Hollywood. i was really happy that i wasn't completely disappointed considering all the hype and build. can't help but think of the alternative, doomsday scenario that happened to Quarantine...what if "Shopaholic" won?
