Bruce Campbell's Final Answer On ED4: 'No'

Until Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both dead, there will always be hope of a fourth Evil Dead film. While over the years both Raimi and Campbell have given a vague "someday" style answer, lately they are leaning toward the "No" side of things. And in a recent interview with Onion's AV Club (which you should all be reading regularly anyway), Bruce pretty much puts his foot down and explains why he has no desire to do a fourth film anymore. Read on for his "sad but true" explanation on the matter.

From Onion AV Club:

AVC: In your opinion, is Ash worthy of more movies?

BC: No. I think there should be an end to everything. I mean, did anyone really want Indiana Jones 4? The answer is no. I've taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up. You are bound to disappoint. I would rather disappoint with a brand new original movie. People worship Army Of Darkness, and God bless them for it. It's a beautiful thing. The movie bombed when it came out, and not many people are aware of that. Twenty years later, the thing has picked up speed, and it's on American Movie Classics now. That was a long time ago, and whatever we do next will always be compared to Army Of Darkness, and I don't see how we can win. You make that movie, and I can tell you the quote right now, "Oh, it's not quite as good as Army Of Darkness." Then we would have gone through immense physical pain and anguish to bring something out that ultimately disappointed. That's really not what I'm into these days.

Bummer, but he's 100% right. Let it be.

Couldn't agree more. We NEED more original stuff. Love it or hate it, it's worth a try. Thanks Bruce for the awesome trilogy, let's leave it at that. And the show Burn Notice is entertaining. As said in 'My Name Is Bruce', we all now can have our happy ending..."Are you happy? Good, Are you? Good, I'm happy. We're all happy".

If anything a young director should take a shot at retelling the story with a whole new cast. However, the casting would probably be horrible with the plot getting way too stereotypical. Remakes could honestly be completely awesome if there was a little bit more thought and effort put into them. Good for you though Bruce, move on with your life.

Nice to hear.

Aaaaahhhhh whatever. It would have been sweet to see them try it. I mean, I have no trouble forgetting "Land of the Dead". Sounds like Campbell thinks he can make a bigger name for himself outside the horror world. Its been 16 years now. Time will tell if he's making a huge mistake....

I don't really care for an 'Evil Dead 4' anyway!!!

5:21pm, February 11, 2009

I wish it would happen, but not without Bruce and Raimi.I'll watch Bruce in whatever films he's in .The 3 Evil Deads should never be ruined by the remake hacks of hollywood. Now that he's directing now we can enjoy his genious in a whole different spectrum.Who knows, he might bless with his own triolgy.

Oh, come on. Did anyone REALLY think there would be an ED4 with Sam & Bruce? Glad to hear it's not happening, anyway. The original trilogy is perfection. Don't fuck with perfection.

I agree to a degree, however look at rambo four that movie was the shit maybe not as good as the first orin some peoples opinion the second, but better than the third. As much as I love Army of Darkness it's nowhere as good as the first two. Im not holding my breath for ED4, but I want to see it regardless.

I think he has a point with the whole "Oh, it's not quite as good as Army Of Darkness" thing. If they make another one there always going to compare it with Army Of Darkness. It would be good if they made another one because I really want to see another one but Iam just happy that he made My Name Is Bruce. I kinda don't want to see a remake of it either because the main character who would be playing Bruce would be trying to get his whole attitude down which I really couldn't see. Bruce Cambell is just one of a kind. And no one else could do his character then him.

Can't really blame him.

Thanks Bruce. Leave it as a trilogy.

Well that settles that then. I think its a good thing anyway . Glad someone in Hollywood can see sense for a change.

I'm glad Bruce has the sense to leave his legacy be.

I agree, I don't want to see an Evil Dead 4. For me, the story always ended with Army Of Darkness, although the video games were damn fun. If they do a remake, I'd love to see Nicholas Brendon as Ash. Anybody else agree?

Jonny Horror
7:45pm, February 11, 2009

I understand how Bruce feels. But I'm a little bummed out. I would have loved to see Ash on screen 1 more time. I'm ok with it being the end if that is indeed the case.

HatchetFace
7:56pm, February 11, 2009

I dont understand you people....... First you complain "I cant believe there making ANOTHER one, this is going to ruin everything...." Now that someone finally agreed to "your liking" your all bummed about it. No wonder why most movies suck nowadays, because Hollywood cant understand you people!

I have a feeling we're going to see a remake of the original Evil Dead announced soon.

Dr_Loomis
9:52pm, February 11, 2009

A shit ton of people wanted a 4th Indiana Jones film. Steven Spielberg even said they made it for the fans. That doesn't mean I want 4th Evil Dead but Bruce you gotta get your shit straight!

VaginalBloodFart
10:38pm, February 11, 2009

They should do Evil Dead 4 in the form of a video game, like they're doin with Ghostbusters.

slipknot611
11:16pm, February 11, 2009

I'm gonna have to agree with Bruce on this one. There's no way in hell he and Sam could make an Evil Dead movie now and please the fans. It'll be Indy 4 all over again (though I did think that it was a decent movie), everyone will scream bloody murder and that it was blasphemy to even think they could rekindle the magic of the first three films. Hell with the fans, they're never satisfied anyway: if Sam and Bruce think it's finished, leave it that way.

Bukowski Thompson
11:24pm, February 11, 2009

You should do a project because you want to. If you're a fan... You'd f--kin love evil dead 4, and it wouldn't be hard to please us "fans". I liked evil dead, ed 2, and army of darkness. I thought army of darkness was not as good as evil dead two. It depends on the person. If I couldn't make evil dead 4 better than army of darkness... I guess I wouldn't make it neither. THey should still make a kick ass movie together however. a horror movie.

Droogie13

Thank you, Bruce. That's the response I've been wanting to hear all these years.

dedrose

evil dead and evil dead 2 were both already better than Army of Darkness, IMO.. so, i think its totally possible to make something better than Army of Darkness.. just go back to the roots, Bruce..
