Bill S. Preston, Esq. to Direct 3D Remake of 'The Gate'

Now here's some random news that's either excellent or completely bogus. Alex Winter has been tapped to director a 3D remake of the 1987 horror film The Gate, according to Production Weekly. You might remember Winter as Bill S. Preston, Esq. from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey), and Marko from The Lost Boys. He replaces Randall William Cook behind the camera. The original, which starred Stephen Dorff, followed three young children who accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from a hole in a suburban backyard. What follows is a classic battle between good and evil as the three kids struggle to overcome a nightmarish hell that is literally taking over the Earth.

Oh, goddammit. Really?

This could be interesting since he co-directed and co-wrote "Freaked"(awesome movie). It could be cool, but they have to keep it like the original, and that being CHILDREN!! It was a horror movie that revolved around a group of children. That was one of the coolest things about the original, cause there were some rather disturbing things happening to the kids, and the fact that they WERE kids didn't sugarcoat those things. And they did a LOT with the PG-13 rating back then(probably way more than they could do now).

You know, I loved the original and Alex Winter really is a pretty solid director, so this could be cool. Looking forward to hearing more on this!

Of course he was involved. He pulled triple duties(co-wrote, co-directed, and acted). Freaked was an awesome movie. Keanu Reeves was uncredited as "Ortiz the Dog Boy". That was one funny ass movie! I remember how the crowd at the freakshow got pissed off because they discovered that sockhead was actually a hand under the sock puppet head. They were all saying he was faking it and wasn't a real freak. Come ON! The dude had three ARMS!! LOL!

The only good thing I can think of about this is that the original might now get a decent DVD release. I liked the sequel too.

It will be perfect Alex Winter I always thought was an under used talent, and I agree Freaked was fantastic I laughed my ass off. I think he will bring in some sick humour to it as well. All for this.

He proved he could do camp with Freaked and he proved he could go the other direction with Fever. He's a great director. Can't wait to see this!

The original has popped up a lot on cable lately. Always was a good idea, and with a proper FX budget, it could rock. I wish him all the best, deliver a solid horror flick, Alex!!! ...of course, knowing the market today, they'll even water down a remake of a movie that was already PG-13 to begin with.

the gate kicks ass (top 8 best horror films from the 80's). This would be a hard re-make. I like this film so much because I watched it when I was a kid. I dunno... have to wait and see. I leek the 3d element.

the Gate was flippin awesome and Freaked was awesome, this will be killer (and I hate remakes)..oh and if your Mom thought he was a loser, he was Bill.s Preston and your Mom was not so "put her in the Iron Maiden!"..excellent..

Alex Winter didn't hit the radar (Bill and Ted, while entertaining, is VERY dated) until Freaked, which was great! I've been waiting for him to repeat for a long time. I don't think a remake of a B-cult is the best use of his talents, but if that's what it takes to get him back in the Loop ...

Sad that everything needs to be based on something else for people to get excited about anything. Hollywood's lack of skill at their own jobs has jaded everyone.
