TV: CW Hopes to Cash in on Twilight's Success With 'Vampire Diaries'

Like the silliness of Reaper? Fan of Summit Entertainment's Twilight? Then you might be in for a treat with CW's new show Vampire Diaries, which has been greenlit for a pilot episode set to air this fall. Diaries, from WBTV and Alloy, is based on Alloy's 15-year-old series of novels, which are enjoying a resurgence with their reprinting in the wake of the "Twilight Success." It centers on a tragic young heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers -- one good, one evil -- who are at war for her soul and for the souls of her friends, family and other residents of the small town in which she resides. Kevin Williamson, creator of "Dawson's Creek" and the Scream feature franchise, wrote the script with Julie Plec.

It actually sounds like a decent idea - plus Kevin Williamson? Score.

That does sound interesting. It might be worth checking out. I'm sure I'll see a ton of advertising beforehand to see how well it is produced.

I read the "Vampire Diaries" back in high school (around the time when they first came out), and I really enjoyed the series. "Twilight" and the "Vampire Diaries" may look similar on the surface, but they're actually very different. (Then again, I've never read "Twilight," nor plan to. My knowledge of the series comes straight from Wikipedia and other websites.) Though my tastes in the vampire genre have changed since my high school days, it will be interesting to see what they do with the series.

This is just another way to make some money. I thought it was pretty funny when I saw that S. King was putting down the Twilight writer. King is the best and he knows horror.

I'm so frickin' sick of teenage vampire bullshit. Though these books outweigh Twilight - it's still it will only produce more douchebag vampire wannabee boners....

The Vampire Diaries and Twilight are not suppose to be horror books. They are for the high school rejects to read and get off on. kind of like how Star Wars was for the 70's.
