'Cannibal Holocaust' Companion Piece D-E-A-D

Some bummer news this evening as we've learned that Cannibals is officially a dead project. Cannibals was the planned Cannibal Holocaust companion piece that was to be directed by Holocaust helmer Ruggero Deodato from a screenplay by Christine Conradt. No word on why the project died, but hopefully one day it finds a way to be made. The new film was to take Deodato's rugged documentary style of shooting into the dark city outside of the jungle.

Dammit!! Would have been interesting.... Well at least we still have the original to warm our hearts and be cherished by generations to come.

This is bullshit! I think with the movie would fit even better in todays society. I would love to get something organizized(for al you travis bickle fans out there) and get this thing back on!!!!! Studios keep pushing out really crappy remakes(prom night, Last house on the left, etc.) but they won't let a director who made one of the most crontroversial films ever write a companion piece. It's a god damn shame that Dee snider will be directing a companion piece to Strangeland but we can't get a second piece the Cannibal Holocaust. Movie producers just love to play it safe these days. Hell, you can find more violence on reality tv shows than in most horror films. Please let this just be a mistake

Not surprised. Not one bit. I hope this changes.

If this saves even ONE turtle from being killed, it's worth it.

merde [that's french for 'shit'] :(

I can't say I'm too broken up about this. As effective as the original was, there's no way to duplicate that impact in any sequel or "inspired by" riff, as the many imitators that followed would demonstrate.

This absolutely sucks, cannibal hollocuast was a fantastic in your face grindhouse type film. hopefully someone picks this up

GI.Dan, I totally agree... even though nowadays there's no way they could get away with something like that to begin with.

Cannibal Hlocaust is one of my all time favs so this is kind of a bummer. Although I seriously doubt that cannibal vibe could be recaptured. Especially with the idea of bringing cannibals to the city. Still would have liked to see though.

Yeah, this is probably for the best. Some movies absolutely cannot be equaled, and I don't know how you could top Holocaust.

GI.Dan

Relax foghorne, it was a joke. Still You have to admit the turtle scene was a little harsh. I watch horror movies to see rubber latex, and red corn surup get flung everywhere. That movie was fucking sadistic.

this fucking sucks. cannibals was the one upcoming horror film i was most looking forward too. holocaust is one of my all time favorites, i had such high hopes for this new one.

Can't say I'm even a smidge sad about this one. It's for the best.

OK, let's just put down our crack pipes and talk about this logically for a minute. You can't make a movie much sicker than the original CH and even if you could - is there a studio crazy enough to release it? It would have either been a let-down or sat in never-to-be-released hell for years. The original can however stand beside Ichi the Killer and A Clockwork Orange with the words "the one and only" right before it! foghorne; calm down man. Animal cruelty and movies don't go together. Corporate greed is what creates most animal cruelty.

glad this wont be seeing the light of day . Holocaust sucks and yes I hate it cause of all the animal slaughter. Sick fucks!!

Thommy Razor

While I understand the upset that watching animals die may cause, I must say, I'm into the horror genre because I WANT to be shocked. I want to see the worst of everything. I enjoy the feeling of being disturbed, and I'm here to challenge film makers to do worse than the last guy. Yes, this probably makes me a sick fuck, but I'm comfortable with that. The animal cruelty was an important part of the film, as much as the infamous impalement. Were you shocked? Then it worked.

Thommy Razor

BTW, I do not intend to start or join a fight by saying this, I'm just musing. Cheers!

Those who chastise the film, Deodato and Co. in concern to the animal cruelty should do their homework. Deodato was completely against the idea of the animal slaughter for his film, however, was bullied by those at the top with the money. Secondly, just remember what you say about the turtles and such when you're eating a hamburger or steak. *lol*

G.I. while I was only kidding(mostly cause there arnt the right kind of turtles here in nor cal and if I have to get them from petco ill be broke in a week!!) I watch these films cause they are harsh and brutal. people watch a film that has cannibal in the title then are shocked that is had some killing in it. animals die every day that you will never hear about at least these animals died to give us this film.

Anyone that gets off on watching animals be slaughtered needs their fucking head examined.

Just have to chime in late to say HELL YEAH! Seriously people spend so much time on here bitching about remakes and reusing ideas and FINALLY one of these craptacular projects falls through and everyone is all moany and sad.... wtf? I was REALLY against this "re-imaging" and glad it won't happen. Now just gotta stop that Nightmare train wreck......

wow, I can't believe so many people were looking forward to this. The first one sucked. It looks like someone on thier end wised up and managed to bring the plummeting plane back to cruise altitude before it crashed into the mountian. thank you god!
