UPDATE: Deadwood Star Joins Zombie's 'Halloween' Sequel

Here is some pretty cool casting for Rob Zombie's H2, which is now filming in Georgia. "Dayton (DEADWOOD) Callie has joined the cast of Halloween 2 as Coroner Alan Hooks," writes Zombie. In addition, Richard Brake (Perkins’ 14, Doom, Outpost) has also joined the cast as Gary Scott, "a corpse fucking obsessed coroner's assistant." The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted. Dimension plans on releasing the film August 28th, 2009.

At the moment, I aint really feeling this. Seeing the amazing job that has been done on movie reboots such as Texas Chainsaw and Friday The 13th I am starting to dislike Rob's Halloween more and more. Maybe (hopefully) this will be an improvement but not getting my hopes up. The should have gone with a different director...

Alright. Let's think about this for a minute... We all know, that Rob Zombie definitely has his own taste when it comes to directing and producing. I guess we can call it, 'eclectic'. Some people respect him for bringing his own little unique quality to the entertainment business, and then others deeply dislike him for it. Being a long time Halloween fan, I am happy that the franchise is still going. However, from seeing the remake, I now know why it would just be foolish to keep this thing going. You can dissect it any way you want, but the point is, Rob Zombie is just not cut out to be adding to this franchise. I completely agree with you Amanda. I think that it would've been wise to go with another director. I will still go see this movie when it comes out, just because I am a loyal Halloween fan. But it sure as hell doesn't mean I have to like it. I just hope that this is it, and there will be no more attempts (at least on Rob's part) to make anymore remakes. It's about time to start with something fresh. A whole new plot, new characters, and a new and improved Michael Myers.

"Now filming" Is that true? Is this movie already filming or in pre-production? I think it's too soon to be filming already.

I don't really care about "Halloween 2," but DAMN, I miss Deadwood. Dayton Callie was all kinds of BADASS as Charlie Utter.

Mr. Zombie's greatest sin as a filmmaker seems to be that he is too individual in his style & approach. In the past, individuality & creativity were considered positive attributes, but now they are loathed in that the director may not give you exactly what you demand and expect. Fear not; you always have Fri 13 to look forward to. It will be exactly what you expect it to be.

I am a huge fan of Halloween and of Zombie, so I am excited about this movie. But who knows it could be a hit or a miss. Just have to wait and see.

A corpse fucking obsessed coroner? Give me a fuckin' break. Well, at least he's not hiding from us how stupid this movie will be. Golly jeez, I wonder if this coroner guy will die? Oh, I dunno...

Well even though the first film was a scattered mess I am still pumped for the second chaptor this movie could be a redemption film who knows this film could be what holds his franchise together.

Let the whining commence.

Saturdaythe13th, I agree. a "corpse fucking obsessed coroner's assistant" just assures this movie will be all kinds of white trash sleaze. Definately up Zombie's alley, but that in itself is is the problem. Pike, the problem is not that Zombie is an individual. The problem is that he does nothing but his own "style". Older horror movies were more individuals in themselves, and horror directors, while having SOME style carried over, tried to give birth to each movie's individual styles that were different than their previous movies. Not all of Carpenter's movies are the same. If you do nothing by the same major themes over and over again, people ARE going to criticize you for not having any ability to work outside of the little space you are comfortable in. And people like that deserve to be criticized. You become a one trick pony. While I think a lot of people would complain a LOT less if Zombie used his "style" on his OWN original movies, the reason why so many rose to rant is because he "Zombie-fied" a classic. Everything that was a major point in the original's story, especially about Michael Myer's past, was raped and sleazed up. Gone is his mystery, and now he's just another serial killer wrestler not unlike the new Leatherface or Jason. Where as horror titles used to be their own movies(hell, even slasher ripoffs used to do the individuality thing well), now all horror is bleeding into itself. There's no individuality anymore, just "Horror", where everything is everything, and nothing stands out anymore.

i cant wait for the movie... personally i just think theyre just adding some flare to how theyre going to explain how michael survives. the "corpse fucking coroner" is "fucking a corpse" and michael is in a body bag, then gets up and kills the "corpse fucking coroner". wow. it does sound bad doesnt it? well im still just a huge Myers fan, so im going to see this no matter what.

magnaderalpha, we disagree. I respect your opinion; at least you didn't just state "Zombie sucks ass" & leave it at that. But I must tell you that the overused cliche concerning "while trash" is devoid of meaning. The only character in the first Halloween that may be described in this manner is mom's useless boyfriend. The particular perversion being ascribed to this chsracter cannot be restricted to one class or group. Yes, Zombie is interested in exploring the darker side of human nature rather than spooks & monsters. I believe this interest is wide enough to provide room for worth & creativity. In the same way that Peckinpah was interested in characters who did not fit into their time & place, Zombie is interested in exploring these dark, but human, themes. The fact that a classic was "Zombie-fied" is a compliment to the filmmaker. What would have been the point of presenting a carbon copy of what Carpenter had already done? The problem is not Zombie as an individual, but it seems to be the fact that Zombie makes individual films, in terms of the ideas he wishes to explore. Do not expect him to give you a by-the-number regurgition of what you may be anticipating. Like any great artist, he will present his art his way. If you can't appreciate that, you might seek out more conventional filmmakers. But it is all a matter of taste, correct?

Pike
7:50pm, February 2, 2009

Sorry for the typo. Obviously "white trash" was intended rather than "while trash".

I knew filming in Georgia would mean a 200% increase in white trash.

KandyMan

I'm really hyped for this, the first film was REALLY brutal especially the workprint version which i own and love dearly. H2 cant come soon enough, i bet the £1.94 in my pocket its gonna be the most brutal horror film we've ever got to see. KM

Pike
12:57pm, February 3, 2009

Again the meaningless cliche of "white trash" is brought into play. 200% increase in white trash due to filming in the South? Everybody living in southern states is white trash. Everybody who uses profanity is white trash. Poor people are naturally white trash. Everybody who has an unhealthy interest in corpses is white trash. Rob Zombie is white trash. Seems like we are all white trash except the children who happily trot out this empty observation every time an RZ movie is discussed. When you escape the classroom & enter the real world, your perceptions my broaden. Let us hope so.

Thommy Razor

Some people talk like the Halloween franchise are the most important movies ever made, and that Rob Zombie has somehow shit on the pope's face with his movie. I feel the originals were all flawed, and tied together with a paper thin plot that just doesn't make sense. So who cares if a coroner's assistant fucks corpses? Does that type of activity not belong in a horror film? And for the record, Donald Pleasance always sucked. I cite Pumaman. And every other movie he did.

Pike
6:02pm, February 3, 2009

You have a point, Razor. All of the Myers films except 1st, 2nd, and H20 were pretty dreadful, yet cries of despoiling sacred ground continue to be raised. People even whine about Zombie using actors whom he admires & trusts due to having worked with them previously. Poor RZ can't do anything right! You guys are funny.
