The Real Story Behind the Infamous 'Exorcist' Spider Walk Scene

The boys over at Dread Central came across this little clip that I found pretty damn interesting. Apparently there are two version of the infamous "Spider Walk" scene from THE EXORCIST floating around and BBC blogger Mark Kermode explains what the difference between the two are, along with where the footage came from. Something else he mentions briefly is that they're still working on getting the original cut of EXORCIST III: LEGION released on DVD. You can see one of the Spider Walk scenes on WB's DVD release of Exorcist: The Version You Have Never Seen.

The "Fear of God" documentary that's on the 25th Anniversary DVD I have has the entire Spiderwalk sequence at one point. Unfortunately, it's played in slow motion in the background of some talking heads. Also, I don't know the chapter or timeframe when it occurs.

I would love to see the original cut of Exorcist III:Legion. I loved Exorcist III but thought something was definately missing from it.

I have no idea what this guy is talking about. What's the explanation for taking it out for the Version that's Never Been Seen? I thought it was part of the original cut, so why is he looking through archive footage to find it? Whats going on exactly?

The infamous spider-walk scene was the stuff of legend for decades, as it *never* appeared in the original version. Hard to imagine why, though. Most find it to be one of the creepiest scenes in the film. But nowadays, it is understood that there are *3* versions of that scene: one climb downstairs with blood spitting; one with NO blood spitting; and one where Regan goes on to scuttle about and attack her mother. It would be freakin' great if one day we were treated to a DVD which includes all 3 scenes. Methinks I smell yet another special must-have edition somewhere down the line! :-)

I loved Exorcist III: Legion also but it did feel a little cobbled together and now I understand why. And creepmasterx9000 I'm thinking your suggestion would be a really excellent addition to the promised Blu-ray version, no?
