David Harley learned this weekend that Paradox is releasing the Spanish horror film REC on DVD in Canada January 27th. Unfortunately the DVD will be will be a bare-bones release, however, it will have both English & French Subtitles as well as a dubbed audio tracks. I believe this is region 1, so all you have to do is go to Amazon.ca to order it. While covering the night shift at a small-town fire department, an ambitious young television reporter (Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman follow the crew on a call to rescue an elderly woman trapped in her apartment. Upon their arrival at the scene, the calm midnight air is pierced by the sound of horrific screams, and the television report takes an unexpectedly dark turn.
I think I'll hold off for a US release. I have the 2 disc from Spain, which is awesome, but some of the special features do not have subtitles. I heard that this would be released in the states sometime this year. Lets just keep our fingers crossed that it does, WITH special features.
As awesome as REC is, Quarantine is just a little better in my opinion. For all those people that hate remakes, this is a perfect example of when they can be a good thing. Most individuals who would never have had the chance to see REC will finally be able to in all its glory.
