First of all, there is no comparison. The original is always 99.9% better. That being said, I do think they are 2 totally different movies. I'm someone that does not feel RZ damaged anything.
His version was not great, but it wasn't bad either. Had he done a complete carbon copy of Carpenter's film, the scrutiny would be different. The fact that he introduced new characters and a backstory really separates them in my opinion. The original HALLOWEEN is easily one of the top 5 greatest horror films ever made.
i would say that the remake was better so suck it mikey...i also agree completely with jonny that these two cannot be compared because of the two different directors themselves... although i do disagree with jonny about which is better i do agree that people should stop trying to compare these two movies!
I agree w/ these guys that the original is and always will be the better of the two. I don't think that the remake is as bad as they believe it is. I do agree w/ some of the things they said like the Make-up from the FX and all that. I also do agree that it was to white trash but it is 2 way different films and meant to be. The remake is good in it's own ways and I do think that it needed to be redone because it was over after Resurrection I mean that was so bad and what was next straight to DVD or something so it needed to have some kind of fresh new life even though some of it sucked and some didn't I did like Scout as Laurie and Malcome as Loomis. I am wondering if he will do better or worse in Halloween 2 (HOPEFULLY NOT H2)
I am one of the rare remake fans. At the same time the original is my all-time favorite. I went to watch the remake with an open mind and didn't want my excpectations to meet how I feel about the original because no movie is going to do that. And after watching the original 1,000 times(and sequels) I was more than willing to accept a new take on Michael and the Halloween franchise and once I knew Rob Zombie was attatched I knew I was going to get that. I enjoyed his previous 2 films especially TDR. So that alone made me expect that I was going to get a quality Halloween. Of course there are flaws in the remake that I wish can be a lil diff. but it wasn't enough for me to dislike it. I really enjoy the remake alot and as a Halloween fan I will continue to embrace Michael Myers and the Halloween franchise and in no way do I look at the remake and think that it disrespects the original or in no way does it ruin the original. The original will forever be apart of my (movie lovin) life and I can always go back and watch it and know that it stands alone..but it's a new time and I welcome Rob or who ever else to bring their take on it....So bring on H2!!!can't wait..Oh,and the battle between the 2..I would have to say the original reign supreme!!
i think it depends on what ur looking for. if u a true horror fane and looking for suspense and creepyness (like me)than the original is better. if ur looking for white trailer trash and tits and ass then the remake is better. ONLY SOME remakes like the ring exceed the original
Original's WAY better, because it was depicted the way the ORIGINAL creators intended the story to be. That was it, that was the true story. The new movie was a spin on that story, but the true story will always be the one from the people who originally thought it up.
What a joke....Rob Zombies Halloween is big pile of turd. I would rather watch BRIDE WARS in a 48 hour continuous loop then Rob Zombie's pile of crapola.
I wanted Zombie to do something awesome with his remake of Halloween. Instead, all he gave us was a fart on film. Now, I wish he would have left the original alone, but, just continue on from it with new sequels.
Have any of you seen the origional Halloween recently? Go and give it a watch. While I appreciate all the history behind it. and for its time, it was way ahead of the curve, It was BORING! I watched it about two weeks ago and my wife who had never seen it kept asking when it would be over. There is absolutely no character development. The writting and dialogue were mediocre. There were no jumps or scares. The music was annoying...famous, but annoying. I have fond memories of the film, but people watching it for the first time now are going to be disappointed. I havent seen the remake yet...It hasn`t come to Japan yet, so I cant judge.
I agree with you as well PILL. I am not a big fan of the remake, but did find that I liked it more after a few times watching it. RZ brought some new elements that I thought were good. It's just easy in my opinion to not compare the 2. What I am is a Michael Myer's fan. The reboot of the series was the best way to bring him back instead of continuing those awful sequels. I feel the same about F13 and for the new Elm Street. We have seen the originals countless times. I'm ok with bringing back these classic horror icons and reintroduce them in a fresh new way to this new generation. Our classic originals will remain intact.
I LOVE the original, and I liked the remake, even though there were some glaring things i hated about it. first off it being not scary at all, because they OVERexplained michael myers. i don't know about you, but the origin story was waaay too drawn out, and killed it for me. just saying michael myers was evil was enough..but then the countless masks and him being a kid that was picked on made me want to shoot myself. I was Psyched for H2 cause i thought that Zombie wasn't directing it but giving it to maury and bustillo (Inside), but now that zombie is, it's dampered my hopes for it a bit.At Least it'll be better than saw 6..
I concur with the beautiful & mysterious horrorchick81. The re-make sucked more than Amber Lynn in her prime. McDowell doesn't come close to the masterful performance by the late Donald Pleasence. RZ's Halloween = A deep fried cinematic shit sandwich!!!
Thanks for all the feedback on Halloween! I didn't realize we'd stir up such a hornets nest among the B-Ders. Well you have "john carpentars halloween" and "rob zombies halloween", they are different fucking movies by different. Comparing them in any fashion is stupid because the remake was rob's version of the movie.
Dude horror is horror if it sucks if its good it all contributes to the genre we all love . Fuck all the hating. If someone likes RZ halloween so fucking what! If someone hates it...so fucking what. It a matter of personal opinion. Just cause you don't understand what's going on
don't mean it don't make no sense
And just cause you don't like it,
don't mean it ain't no good
I found the remake to be entertaining, but i can't say it was a "good film" by any stretch of the imagination. almost everything was sub-par. A movie doesn't have to be good for me to enjoy watching it. I give Rob credit for trying a new direction with it, although i feel he failed at what he was going for. A+ for effort, C- for execution.
To to tell you the truth, I like them both the same amount.
