Box Office: 'The Unborn' Kicks Off a Monster Year For Horror

I have a really good feeling about horror this year, a really good feeling. Love it or hate it, Rogue Pictures' The Unborn took in an impressive $21,095,000 (estimated) for the #3 spot at the box office this weekend, barely losing to BRIDE WARS. With Lionsgate's MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D just on the horizon and then THE UNINVITED, FRIDAY THE 13TH and even THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (which shockingly looks good) hitting theaters this Spring, it looks like horror could be heading out of the gate near the top (so we hope). To think, we even have H2 and FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D hitting theaters in August with SAW VI and THE WOLFMAN rounding out the year, how can we go wrong?!

all those movies I am really looking forward to, I don't know how I'll act when I see The last house on the left, that looks real disturbing

I wonder when they'll announce the direct-to-DVD sequel.

I'm not looking forward to any of those movies, all of them are remakes or sequels, how the hell could anyone look forward to that?

The Unborn won't get a lame-ass direct to DVD sequel. Platinum Dunes is very particular about their films and how they present them. I think they'll probably be sticking to theatrical releases for the time being.

well we could go wrong with a twilight sequel. and, in your face coverage of the other fucker. btw, saw the unborn last night. i thought it was decent, not the greatest, nor the worst horror movie. but a horror movie is a horror movie so i wont complain, cuz a crappy horror movie is better then a good action flick or comedy.

I actually loved "The Unborn" and I'm glad it had a great opening weekend. I hope it ends up at the #2 spot by the time the official numbers come in Monday night. 2009 is the year for horror. Oh, and in the article, you forgot about The Haunting in Connecticut in June and Sorority Row in October...and even the remake of The Stepfather in October, too. These three might not be as anticipated as the other mentioned horror flicks (especially the latter), but they still have the potential to be successful.

Don't forget Sorority Row. Gotta love these hot girls being stalked by a killer!

Add "Trick R Treat" to that roster and you have one helluva year. Hey, a person can dream...

Good call Scream110! I want to see all of these movies. I think that those of us that want the remakes and sequels think outside the box therefore want to see them. Some of the movies that are being remade are improvements and I for one love them I'm not demeaning the originals in anyway, I just like some of the remakes.

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/boxoffice/ Yahoo doesn't even show the Unborn on its January 9-11th box office number. Yahoo sucks

Everything sounds good. MY BLOODY, F13, and WOLFMAN are high on my list. Everything but another SAW? Why ? What is the point?

Just like I'd rather have another pointless F13 sequel than an even more pointless remake, I want to see the pointless Saw sequel more than the I mean I've already seen them once remakes.

they all look good on l the list esp. friday the 13th and my bloody valeintine. (even though never seen the original my bloody baleintine or lhotl but hopeully can get them soon fron netflix) only one dont want or really care for is another pointless saw movie. but other than that list looks great!

Yay let's get excited for yet another completely unoriginal and creatively bankrupt year for horror! Other than seeing Benicio Del Toro do an excellent job (in a movie that may not be excellent) on screen yet again, I don't see any reason to be excited about any of those movies. I understand the statement "seeing a horror film in a theater is better than not," but I was thinking that right before I went to a FREE screening of The Unborn. I almost left about halfway through because I was so irritated, but I stayed to see if it would get any better. I should have known that when a film has such a cool trailer, it's because it has the best parts in the movie and that there is no need to go out and see it. I'll admit it though, I'm willing to give a 3-D remake a chance and get nostalgic for some Friday the 13th but why are the upcoming movies exciting to anyone? I LOVE horror but I guess I'm just not a fan boy.

Ya know, didn't care for this at all, but still glad to see it did good numbers. I'd take a million "The Unborn"'s as opposed to "DATE EPIC FUCK MOVIE LOL" so more power to it. Agreed on the Last House remake looking shockingly decent. I thought the Hills Have Eyes redux was really good stuff, so hopefully this stays on a similar course.

Last house on the left looks awesome but the trailer show all.

me, if it's horror, it's fine... some people just want to watch some, and think the others are lame or stupid or pointless or whatever lame excuse they can think of... c'mon, guys, those are excuses non-horror fans make... if you don't like it, say so, but don't condemn it... everyone has a different taste/likes...
