Some big news for HOSTEL fans as Koji Shirashi's Grotesque will be released on January 17th in Japan, according to Nippon Cinema. Over at BDTV you can check out a pretty brutal trailer for the film (not work safe), which shows that Shirashi was obviously inspired by Eli Roth's HOSTEL franchise (right down to the color scheme). Even the film's official website displays that the promo materials for the film are HOSTEL inspired. Koji Shirashi also directed CARVED (A Slit-Mouthed Woman).
Makes Rothy-boys "Hostels" look like the Teenager T & A flick that it really is. I like what I see but Japan has delivered a lot of excellant Catagory III violence.
Cathedral opf Demoni, what movies are you referring to with that lasr sentence? I've never seen a Japanese movie that I thought was genuinely gory at all, and I've seen ALL the "gory" Japanese movies everyone raves about. This doesn't look all that gory, either. The camera will most likely be staring at the wall as gory stuff happens off-screen, as in all Japanese movies. And I don't see why people are so excited about a Hostel rip-off just because it's Japanese. Not to mention, it looks a lot more like something from the Guinea Pig series than Hostel, anyway.
Western Cinema has always outdone us on the torture/gore front. Now they're going to show up the hack Eli Roth and out-due him with ease. I might see it. I've never enjoyed anything Roth made, personally, though perhaps they have removed enough of his teeny-date-movie-ness and made a decent flick.
Wow, thats a lot of torture... Lets hope they didn't blow their load with the trailer, cuz thats about the goriest promo ive seen in a while.
very Hostel looking......
The trailer looks great. But I didn't like Hostel. It sucked big time. I was excited seeing the trailer for Hostel. I wonder if this will be the same way??
Wow! All this hate. How you gonna hate on them for 'ripping off' Hostel when they made it blatantly known the film was inspired by 'Hostel'. Its not like they're trying to take credit. Dunno what movies you were watching Jacques, but I've seen plenty like you and have no idea where you're coming from. I've seen many a buckets o' organs coming from the Pacific. *lol* This makes 'Hostel' look like 'The Waltons'. Looking forward to it. :)
I agree partly with Jacques on this. Hostel itself was not all that original, and this feels more like a Guinea Pig movie anyway. I'd suggest The Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police if you want example of some gory Japanese films (not to mentioned the Guinea Pig series.
Looks gross... and totally pointless. Hostel was silly enough, but this is just nasty. Interesting though, that a Japanese movie is copying an American film for once instead of the other way around.
the trailer doesnt look that gory...nevertheless this is expected gore from japan where you dont actually see the gore happen, but you use your imagination instead... i still want to see it though.
