The first batch of glorious stills from Jon Harris' The Descent: Part II have found their way online and can be viewed beyond the break! It looks as if we'll have some new creatures joining in on the fun. The sequel written by James Watkins (Eden lake) will continue the story of Sarah, who as the only survivor of an all-female caving expedition gone horrifically wrong, suffers severe psychological trauma. Unable to speak, she accompanies a rescue team back to the cave, but events once again take a sinister turn.
Oh bad call on the close up. The first film has one of the creepiest fucking reveals of a monster in any movie I can think of with the night vision pan over, and this certainly isn't going to replace that memory. I still have hope for it though.
If you look at the picture of the creature, it really looks like someone just wearing a mask. Check out around the eyes? I'm not sure how good or bad this will be. I did like the first one, but thought it was a little over hyped. The ending to me was lame. I gave it a C+ at best.
this is so stupid
the plot is ridiculus
1. The version I saw had an ending where Sarah ends up never making it out of the cave...why would she be in the second one
2. Why the hell would she go back into the cave?...sure she wants to save her friends but she saw most of them die. Plus, the trauma from her expierience would be too overwhelming for her to just turn around and jump right back into a nightmare
its one giant
"der"
I think that the 1st and 4th pics are more like posing stuff than actual footage that we will see on the film, Letīs hope they donīt mess this one up...
If they skipped on putting the close up of the beast and didn't show you the beast like that at all in the whole movie it probably would have been great
The first film was good, but come on, it was a stand alone. When you have to make a whole new ending so you can justify a shit sequel theres something wrong there.
I really wanted to love the original Descent, but when I saw it in the theaters I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed... From the almost criminal duplication of The Thing's score to the so-dark-and shaky you can't tell what the hell is going on atmosphere, I couldn't believe this movie developed the following it did.
It's not a bad movie by any means, just terribly overrated. The creature attacks become so redundant it almost became laughable...
I will say, however, the claustrophobia and paranoia were done so well in the first half of the film.
Sorry, I just got done watching it again. Every year or so, I feel the need to re-watch it to see if I'm being too hard on it. So far... no.
The ending of the original was fantastic though, and on top ruining the ending by making her somehow escape the cave (only to go back in for some reason?) the photos look way too bright. Despite my complaint of the original being too dark, in hindsight, it's the way it's gotta be. They are, after all, underground.
I understand people not wanting to see the creature close up before the film but on a sequal when you have already seen the creature, not much is going to change.
Wat are they doin like wat they did to the alien in Aliens, changing the look slightly? hummmm I don't know I hope its good though. Loved the first one.
The version I saw Sarah completely lost her mind and thought she was with her daughter having a birthday party,so why would there be a sequel? Oh well, hopfully they don't fuck it up and ruin a kick-ass scarey movie.
Really looking forward to it...the creatures were better looking from what I see in the first movie but I'm looking forward to it...hope it's another good blood fest...
JohnnyHorror you are right, they were blind and appeared to have huge catarats in the original, no pupils. RunBitch, I completely agree. I will see this anyway, even though it starting to scream "Rental!"
The original was one of the best monster related horror movies i had seen in quite a while. I am rather displeased with the way they look in that close up, but I'll keep my anticipation low so i don't get a swift kick in the bollocks as i leave the theater.
fantasm: huh???? The monsters were shitty, they couldn't even take out the girls without them arguing with each other and fighting with themselves. in a situation where the monsters cornered the chicks, the girls turned into buffy the vampire slayer and kicked ass rendering the monsters impotent.
Uh, The Descent definitely should have sticked to just being a stand alone film. With a sequal, it ruins any credibility that The Descent had. Come on, the ending definitely showed us that Sarah was clearly stuck down there... so stupid.
yeah seeing that close up of the monster ruined it for me. The first film the monsters looked very raw and animalistic...this one as mentioned looks like a ugy in a mask. Too bright...werent the monsters in the first film blind...I know it was dark and there was the night vision shots but for some reason Im not remembering them having actual pupils and such...I mean come on blue/green eyes. Very human like, The first monsters being kept in the dark was way better...I love the descent but this just looks like its going down hill.
I <3 THE DESCENT, I'M OPEN TO A SEQUEL IF THERE'S A LOGICAL REASON FOR ONE (I CAN'T JUDGE THIS ON PRODUCTION PICTURES, I NEED TO SEE AN OFFICIAL TRAILER)!
I've got a bad feeling about this one.....the close-up of the creature looks fuckin' lame. I was really hoping they wouldn't do a sequel to this film. Unnecessary.
I loved the first one and will watch the second, but the creatures look different, there is no Neil Marshall, and she didnt make it out of the cave in the first one, so I am wary.
The only thing that gives me hope it's the writer of Eden Lake. I think the creatures are blind and some of the takes are fake stills that don't belong to the finished movie.
As a UK viewer, I have major issues with this sequel because all the cast died in our version of the film... the scene with her getting out of the caves was just a dream sequence and she was clearly shown to be still stuck down in the caves!
Descent was one of my all time favorite horror films, and I am looking forward to the sequel; I've watched Descent probably 100+ times and need some Descent stuff *BG* I know Neil didn't write this one, and too bad because I love his films.
Even if they keep the UK ending and later let her out of the cave, it still ruins it for me. Sarah has to stay in the cave for that ending to keep impact.
