'My Bloody Valentine' Only 3-D in 900 Theaters

In an article over at the NY Times, they report that Lionsgate's My Bloody Valentine 3D won't be hitting all theaters in 3-D, some of you might get stuck seeing it in gross 2-D. "Like all studios experimenting with 3-D, Lionsgate is struggling with a shortage of theaters equipped to project the work. By the release date for “My Bloody Valentine 3D,” Lionsgate will have only 900 3-D screens available, so it will show a 2-D version of the movie on about 1,600 screens." The film hits theaters January 16th, fingers crossed 900 theaters spreads it out enough so you all get to see it in glorious 3-D.

This doesn't surprise me, but it does piss me off a little. I'll see it either way, but it'll definitely be a letdown if my local theaters don't get it in 3-D.

Damn, so it's only a total of 2,300 screens? That's definitely gonna make its box office totals even less, but then again, most movies released in January aren't big hits, especially 3-D horror movies. I hope my theater has it in 3-D, but it still looks cool even if it's in regular 2-D.

3D is the only reason I would go. It's the only reason I went to see Bolt and I sat through a fucking Hanna Montana song just so I could see some shit come out the screen while I was stoned

I don't see this being a problem in LA. Sucks for the movie though, probably would have had better numbers with a wider 3D release. It's not like it was ever projected to break box office records before this news though.

I'm still psyched for this movie, but now my heart weeps on the inside (at least if any of the theaters in my area don't have it in 3D).

Pretty confident Salt Lake will get it 3d in some theaters. they always have the 3D films like Journy to the center of the earth and Fly Me to the Moon.

If you go to rottentomatoes.com and type in the title, there are 2 reviews (both positive). WARNING! there are some sort of spoilers in the reviews and one review is from a fearnet critic which is partially owned by Lionsgate so it might be biased. Personally, I can't wait to see it.

Of course it's not 3D in all theaters. Not every cinema has made the decision to put 3D projectors in their theaters, meaning there will of course be a shortage in supply. The marketing of this film is and will mislead people into thinking that when they go to see this film, it will be in 3D ("My Bloody Valentine *3D*). This shortage of supply is why films like FINAL DESTINATION 4 have been pushed back to summer, so cinemas can have time to install the new REAL D projectors and meet the demand. What you want to do is go on to the REAL D website and find out where and which cinemas are 3D to avoid disappointment!

Just read those rottentomatoes.com reviews. This movie is going to rock.

since I live in "we have nothing cool ville" otherwise known as Owensboro Kentucky,I of course will NOT get to see this in 3-D.

I already know we won't get any 3D over here, but the 3D is not why I'm going to see this. It looks good so I'll take it any way I can get it.

Why make it in 3-D unless you are going to release it in 3-D everywhere it is being released? Just stupid if you ask me!

Saw the trailer for this at a sneak preview for The Spirit (which was AWFUL!!), and it looks ass-tacular! I'm amazed that this wasn't direct to video.

So if You got a movie like 'Monster House' or 'Bolt' at Your local cenima is it safe to say that you will get this film in 3D at your local theater?

as excited i am to see this and i'm almost positive we'll get the 3D version here in Seattle, it IS a shady move on Lionsgates part to heavily advertise this as 3D when most people won't be able to see it like that. i mean, i knew that some theaters would be showing it in 2D but i had NO idea so few theaters had the new 3D technology. i think the movie should've been released at a later, down the road date. like FD4 did.

Rave Motion Pictures is equipped with Real D Technology, the same technology utilized by MBV3D; and what do you know, there's a RMP no more than fifteen minutes from my house. So, I'll be seeing it in 3D, er, Real D.

Just found out the local theater down the street has 3-D screens so I'll definately be seeing this. Haven't seen a 3-D flick since the last 10 minutes of Freddy's Dead and that was back in the early 90's. And since Piranha 3-D is supposed to be coming out this year hopefully this will start a new trend.

I dont really care if its in 3D or not. To me its still looks like an awesome slasher movie. 3D or not, I have to see that one.

Yeah, my theater has a 3D projector, so that's awesome. Those fucking glasses cost 2 bucks extra, but it'll be worth it.

Saw the original my bloody valentine can't wait to see this on. If I can't see it in 3-D thats okay looks like a very good remake.

tylerdq14 they just built a brand new Great Escape theater in Fenton that has digital 3D. It's just south of St Louis. I'll be there when this comes out!!

Hard to tell from the trailer just how much 3-D is involved. They obviously are saving a few surprises they don't want to show in the trailer, but all I saw was a pick axe being thrown at you and the fire ball explosion. I think this movie can work with or without it. Still looked like fun to me.
