I'm surprised Tim Burton did not make this. This is right up his alley. Spike Jonze ? Isn't he more known for directing music videos ?

Troubled troubled movie I wanna see it I like Spike as a director his movies have been great. I love the fact they made the wild things practical and not a CGI monster that would have been weak. Johnny Horror he is mainly known for music video but he has made a bunch of films to Being John Malcovich, Adaptation. All really good films so we will see how he does with Fantasy heard the production has had a ton of problems and he had to reshoot half the film.

He had to reshoot half of the film?? WOW, I wonder what happened? I've wondered why this production seems to have been going on for so long. The stills look *great*.

One of my favorite books as a child and I actually named my son after Max in the book. I am glad that Spike Jonze had brought this to reality.

I'm s glad Burton didn't do this. He needs to get out of the rut he's in and this would hardly be the project to do it for him. He would have altered the visuals until they felt more lke his that the books and this doesn't need that. Burtons becoming such a cliche. This looks awesome, and I can't wait to see it. I loved the book as a kid.

I guess part of the reshoots were cause the kid came off as a complete unlikeable prick so the test groups say and the studio was unhappy with a few things in it and wanted more CGI. I say fuck that I love the fact its real and the enviroment is real. CGI is still not that good to base an entire film around even if it looks good now in a year or two it looks like shit.

This is great, that was my favorite book when I was a kid. Thanks Warner Brothers for making this film - now where's our Trick R' Treat you stupid fucks???!!!!

I saw the test screening last year in Pasadena...really impressed by what I saw, but not surprised by the studios stance on reshoots. It was rather bleak, and Max is interpreted as a pretty unstable kid (which would account for the negative reaction towards the performance). It was too dark and complex for mainstream audiences, so this whole clusterfuck getting this movie into theaters is all about the studio retooling Jonze's vision into something more commercial. And for the record, the kid playing Max was AMAZING.

Wow!! I loved this book when I was a child. It was probably my favorite. I just hope that all the reshooting/retooling doesn't ruin his original vision and make it too commercial and mainstream. If we want to see a family flick we'll catch the latest Disney release. Give us the dark fantasy.

Thanks for the info Droogie13. This just shows you how fucking stupid some of these movie studios really are. They want a commercial film; so they hire one of the most non-commercial directors out there. I guess you don't need common sense to work in Hollywood.
