Rob Zombie Officially Directing 'Halloween' Sequel

Rob Zombie is packing up and heading back to Haddonfield for H2, the sequel to his remake of John Carpenter's classic film from 1978. While other horror websites patronized us for reporting the story broke by Shock, it appears the egg is in their face as Zombie will return to both write and direct the sequel to HALLOWEEN for Dimension Films. Read on for the official news and full details on the deal. What do you guys think? Where should Zombie take the sequel?

Dimension Films and Rob Zombie are teaming for another chapter of "Halloween," and he's racing to scare up the pic for release in October.

Zombie will write and direct "H2," the sequel to his 2007 reinvention of the John Carpenter horror classic. Production will begin in March.

The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted.

Zombie said it won't resemble the original second installment, as the "House of 1000 Corpses" helmer continues to take the franchise in different directions.

Zombie took Carpenter's original and stamped it with an original storyline that treated Myers as a clinical psychopath. The film grossed $60 million domestically in 2007.

Zombie had told Dimension chief and TWC co-chairman Bob Weinstein he wanted nothing to do with a sequel. But just like the franchise's villain, Zombie was compelled to come back.

"I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again," Zombie said. "Now, we'll be hauling ass, and that's the problem making a movie called 'Halloween': If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I'd be fine."

Malek Akkad of Trancas Intl. Films will produce with Spectacle Entertainment's Andy Gould.

SO pumped for this...I have all the faith in the world in Zombie...he'll do it well, just like the first one...and every other movie he's done, for that matter...really hoping that Danielle Harris makes a return, too...it'll be really interesting to see how this plays out...and October would be a dream come true!

Im glade that Zombie wont be going back to the original H2 story and make something new and fresh cuz if he did then everyone will be looking for similarities like they did on the first one and everyone will be talking shit and be pissed off and just shit on it cuz they didn't stay true to the original but im excited for this one and hope it will make an October release.

I haven't seen all of Rob Zombie's movies. I saw that movie "The Devil's Rejects" and didn't like it very much. After seeing that and seeing his remake of Halloween, I pretty much know that I just don't like his directing. His remake of Halloween was very good, but I just don't agree with his directing; there's something off about it. One thing I did like about "his" Michael Myers was that he got that guy to play as him who was huge! In my opinion, Michael looks good when he: -smashes through walls and doors to get through them or to grab someone. -he lifts someone up and stabs them onto a wall or such -when he walks slow OR power-walks after his victim -when he leans his head back and forth after killing someone -smashes people into things -walks through a pane of glass as if it wasn't there (just some of my personal likes on Michael's characteristics.) I am excited for the sequel though! I hope we can again see Michael stalk Laurie Strode in a creepy hospital with with his scalpel! -Matt

Maybe next he'll remake JAWS with his wife as Chief Brody and Captain Howdy as Quint.... The shark will be eating people because it was sexually molested by fishermen shortly after birth. When Rob Zombie remade Halloween he took a big dump on a classic. Please stop Rob.

Ugh. Rob Zombie disappointed me with the remake. I loved House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects so as a huge fan of the original Halloween, I was definitely happy he was behind it. Makes me feel kinda stupid now. That movie was a chance to prove his diversity as a director, and instead of doing that he just did the same thing again but with Michael Myers. I was hoping a new director would go in a different direction with the sequel. All I can say now is that I hope he makes a good Halloween movie, I doubt it, but nothing is impossible. And is it really called H2? Cause seriously, WTF???

I'm not surprised that rob is back. I was pritty sure he would be. There was no one else to continue the series except rob. Dimension is bankrupt with ideas and doesn't know where to take the character. It's not rob's fault. There was no direction what to keep in the remake. Could have changed everything. Dimension didn't care. Carpenter doesn't care about the series. Rob was dealt a bad hand at the very beginning.

All the Zombie bashing is so damn yawn. At least he's making horror films that are both bloody and violent. I think he's a competent director and let's face it, he's doing more for horror than all these bitchy comments ever will. Bring it on RZ!

7:42am, December 16, 2008

I like Rob Zombie and I liked his remake of Halloween and I loved John Carpenter's Halloween as well. I do worry that the excitement RZ had for remaking Halloween, may be lost on the new project? It sounds like it will be rushed and that could make H2 a piece of crap. If he does not have enough time to formulate a decent storyline and the production is rushed............I smell disaster. In this case I am hoping for a 2010 release

Horrorfan83

Wow, as if Zombie hadn't desecrated Halloween enough, we get Zombieween 2. No thanks. White trash Zombieween was plenty awful enough. You know, after Resurrection, I said that I'd rather they remake the movie as opposed to having to sit through another film as bad as Resurrection...and leave it to Rob Zombie to make a film that makes me wish we had 10 more films along the lines of Resurrection to look forward to as opposed to the remake we got. Simply astounding how devoid of talent he is.

joe31183
8:39am, December 16, 2008

Great... another way for Zombie to shit on the series. Has he never heard of hiring someone else BESIDES him to write a script? The remake could have been decent if the script wasn't so frickin' stupid. He can direct, but he can't write for shit.

WOW!! I can't believe you people that call yourselves fans of Halloween are just so stuck on the original. I mean come on everything has to come full circle, yeah Zombie did a remake, so what!! most of you so called fans hate it, so what!! The movie made money, money is what is bringing RZ back for the second one, who cares!! Do you really think that just because are saying that it sucked, that they wouldn't make a sequel, that RZ wouldn't be back, that Hollywood actually listens!?!? All I know is that I am a huge fan of the Origanls, I honestly think that after Halloween 2 the franchise went down hill, I mean come on Season of the With, The Revenge of Micheal Myers, The Curse of Micheal Myers, H2O, Resurrection. None of these films did justice to the original or the first sequel. I honestly like Zombie's remake, I thought it was refreshing, and a new start needed for the series!! I just hope that his sequel ends the series. I just don't want to see it ran into the ground again!!

drwynn
1:36pm, December 16, 2008

Nitewise 84; you're missing the point. A lot of people complaining about the remake are doing so because of very specific elements that are the foundation of Zombie's "vision". For instance...we WERE expecting a film with intelligence, style, and a basic comprehension and respect for what made "Halloween" work in the first place. Zombie showed us NONE of those things. I won't delve deeply into the "what makes Michael work" argument...but, making him 8' 9" tall and built like a Hummer does NOT show basic comprehension for that fact. If bigger = scarier...why not just turn him into a 12' 8" cyborg fashioned out of the remains of other serial killers and Nazi tanks? Zombie caters to the average IQ level of the reality-TV-slurping cro-magnons who have the attention span and aesthetic sensibility of a pre-schooler. He made the Boogeyman LESS subtle (and as a result LESS scary)...he turned three wonderful girls into obnoxious, idiotic, vacuous, twits...he turned a noble and sympathetic Doctor into an egocentric, clueless, simpleton. He took a great idea and dumbed it down...stripped it of it's mystery and subtlety, and thus its effectiveness...and poured buckets of blood on it; he made it more "today". That's NOT necessarily a good thing. remaking the film is one thing...but to do so showing little to no comprehension of what makes "Halloween" "Halloween"...it's just idiotic. And I'm not saying he should keep everything the same...but, somethings shouldn't be fucked with. If you skew them to far, they just don't work.

Is there any truth running around on the internet? First the Halloween sequels would all be DtV, then Scout said there is no sequel...any truth? Anyway, I'll go see this though I'll be hesitant. I liked the first one ok, but will the white-trash, language, and excessive nudity be present again? That took away the classiness of Halloween for me. Please Rob! Back off!

abone114
1:49pm, December 16, 2008

could be good, could be shit. His first attempt fell very short of being any where as good as the original. Act 1 was actually very impressive and i really got into it but as soon as Act 2 started the movie fell apart. the pacing was all over the place, there were absolutely no suspenseful build ups before the kills, it was just rapid paced one after another. carpenter did a much better job; and the acting was terrible.

nohandtyper
2:01pm, December 16, 2008

You know, if he continued directly from where it left off and focus more on Laurie, it might actually make the first a bit more decent. I mean, the first could then be considered to only introduce Laurie and her relationship to Michael, then they could transition it. I dunno, maybe there's something here. Or maybe I'm just grasping from SOMETHING that just cant be...

This could be a GOOD thing, as in the first one he was kind of compelled to follow the pre-determined 'origin' story and subsequent return home... this way he can take it pretty much any way he wants to. I am looking forward to see what he can do with an established horror icon , without the constraints of needing to tell the back story.

I'm at least glad it will be different from his initial remake. Really, though, do they have to call it H2? So stupid. P2, X2, LXG, H2O, let's end the meaningless acronyms. Halloween 2, Halloween II, or Halloween Part 2 or Halloween: The Sequel to the Remake, but please not "H2"! Recommendation for Mr. Zombie otherwise is to go for *scary* this time and forget homages, explanations, grittiness, and gore.

Questions for Rob Zombie: So are you going to go back on your word with this film as you did with the first over an over again - no res-hoots, no alternate endings, no sequel - yet you did all three!!!! Also what white trash direction will you be taking this sequel?? Will Laurie, due to her traumatic experiences, become a stripper and pregnant teen? Will she become a catatonic killing machine that can't make up her mind if she is pure evil or made that way due to her upbringing? Will a white trash family find themselves living in an upper middle class neighborhood with no logical means to support themselves yet just ignore that fact??? Will Sheri Moon be playing a twin sister to Deborah and aunt to Laurie (you have to get your wife in there somehow)?? Will you cast anyone who can act their way out of a paper bag? Will Tommy & Lindsay make an appearance as they gave the best performances in the first film (I am being dead serious with this one - so yes a compliment and backhand at the same time because it was probably an accident they acted so well) Will you give Danielle Harris more to do besides saying "Fuck me", "Hey Bitches", and being topless - this girl actually can act??? Will you kill Michael again only to return in the lamely titled H3??? And most importantly - will you let someone else write the fucking thing???

this has "fail" written all over it. =[ originals are ALWAYS better imo. ive never EVER seen a remake better than an original. i wish someone else was directing it then theres MAYBE a possibility for someone to pick up the pieces after that first one. oh well.

Initially when I saw Halloween at the cinema, I was upset that I spent money on watching it, then thought maybe I was looking to hard into it. I tried to get through it again last night, but couldn't take it seriously, I found dramatic and tense scenes hilariously amusing and couldn't get past most of Zombies choice of casting. I still think he should work on his directing skills with his own films.

I'm glad that Rob is returning to do this. This won 2008 Scream Award for Best Remake and the Rondo for 2007 Best Horror Film where it had the highest votes (553) of any film in Rondo's history of voting. It does matter what people outside of any message board thinks and buys since the remake made over it's initial production and advertising costs.

Being a very big supporter of Rob Zombie and his films I have to say im very upset to here that he will be doing a sequal especially to Halloween which is what ruined the franchise in the first place. Im not saying that this wont be any good but I am very dissapointed that its happening. Not to mention I was very excited for Tyrannasouras Rex.

I am very excited to see another Halloween installment. I enjoyed the Rob Zombie remake. Yes, I know, it was nowhere near as good as the John Carpenter original, but very few horror/slasher films stack up to Halloween. Just a little note to all the haters: have you seen the sequels to Halloween? They are 95% crap! As far as the slasher genre goes, Halloween had weaker sequels than Friday the 13th, Elm Street, Etc. The remake didn't ruin the franchise, the original franchise ruined the franchise. I am always grateful when a real horror film is released and the horror market is full of garbage (Twilight, Prom Night, Etc.) right now. Most of you guys would bitch if you were hung with a new rope. "It looks terrible!" You are basing this on a teaser poster. If you have no desire to see it, stick to Rob Zombie and stay home. My bet is you will be the idiot at the midnight screening.

I personally can't wait for this one.As for all of you Zombie bashers out there...FUCK OFF!If you don't want to see this then don't post anything. As for the HALLOWEEN fans wait until you see pics and a trailer before you start bitchin'.

This is horrible, HORRIBLE news! Zombie said a few years ago that "remaking classic horror-films is the WORST thing a filmmaker can do." THen, of coure, he makes his huge, white-trash, Halloween-junkpile. He is a huge liar, and this is further proof. Why don't you just remake House of 1000 Corpses? That is just screaming out for a remake.

Have to admit, I liked Zombie's redo of Halloween. My opinion. Hope that he doesn't mess it up with doing a sequel, so good luck with that. On another note, doing a remake or redo of The Crow, I'm not happy about.

The remake was already bad enough now this. I don't know why they even remade halloween and why there remaking 2. those are probably the best ones. If anything they should of picked up after reserection or h20 and continued with it from there not remake classics especially rob zombie. Hes not right for the serious at all. I love the halloween movies but his remake was total crapppp.

I rather enjoyed his take of Halloween minus some of the dialoge and directors cut rape scene. Which i could have gone with out seeing. Anyways im going to remain neutral being kinda excited and kinda disappointed. If he plans on releasing by October they he will run threw making the movie which can lead to a diasterous film. i guesss we wait and see eh

As someone else said - a sequel will give Zombie a chance to let loose and take the story where he wants it. Although (i thought) that Zombies first Halloween was very well done but it was definitely restricted by certain elements. Just like the amazing Devils Rejects over the terrible House of a 1000 Corpses; This Sequel Will Rock.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo, man i am mad, halloween is a good franchise and they keep ruining it, after halloween 5 it went downhill for me (h20 was good though), but i didnt like the halloween remake (tried to watch it a second time to give it another chance, but i just couldnt finish the film because of how bad it was), seriously someone else needs to direct this, this sucks.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of the original Carpenter fans than myself. That said, I LOVED Zombie's "remake" of Halloween. I thought the kid who played young Michael was great, the scene where he kills his first person was truly disturbing, and the whole film had an uncomfortable feel that built to a sudden crescendo at the ending. Also, Danny Trejo yelling, "But I was good to you, Mikey," still haunts me at times. Either you're a purist or you're not, either you're a Zombie fan or you're not, but calling those who enjoy his work stupid is pretty immature. If ya wanna see the next one, see it. If ya don't, don't. I'll be there opening day if I get my way.

That was supposed to read "fan of the original Carpenter SERIES," not "fans." Oops.
