New 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Feature Film a Possibility?

TWILIGHT has either done us a major service or disservice, depending how you look at it. Courtesy of the success of Summit Entertainment's teen vampire drama, it looks like a brand new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie could be in the works, according to a newspaper in Australia (hard to consider it a credible source, although they have broke a few big pieces of news in the past). Read on for the news and feel free to chime in on the story - is horror heading in the wrong direction?

Our good friends over at Moviehole.net discovered the following in the Herald-Sun Newspaper:

"The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role."

We'll keep you posted if anything new develops...

i can't tell if you guys (Jaysaw and Patrick) are serious. (IMO) the movie version of Buffy sucked so much ass. the show was and is awesome! i'd LOVE a movie version of the show, not a sequel to the god awful movie. Sarah, Allison, Eliza etc. bring 'em all back! i'm in.

I'm not afraid to say that I liked the original movie. It was funny and didn't take itself seriously. The series, I really never cared for. I've never been into those types of teen drama shows, even back then, when I WAS a teen. That's why if this movie IS in the works, I'm NOT interested at all.

It's no big surprise with the success of Twilight, as well as the Sex In The City movie last summer, that the studios are more open to adapting a female driven TV show for the big screen. All the key players have to be on board,as fans of the Buffy universe are as rabid as Trekkers. They'd have to kick down the wall between the Buffy and Angel shows to do this right.

I am a huge fan of the show and the show came about because Joss Whedon was so unhappy with how the movie was handled. I thought Rutger Hauer and Paul Rubens were great in the movie...but the rest of it sucked...no pun intended! The show had humor and heart as well as some chilling moments. I would have a hard time with a Buffy movie if it was with different people than the show. Yes tszilla is right...we are a rabid bunch lol!

YES! JAYSAW ...if this happens we need cameos from the origional cast! but this teen heart-throb vamp thing dosen't sit well...horror is supposed to be over the top and intended for mature audinces...not tweens...dont get me wrong i welcome twilight into my library...but it could open a door that we shouldnt, and by that i mean "family friendly horror"...i just don't think horror should be that.

The time has been and gone to get a Buffy movie going. Joss Knows and surely is smart enough to know this...

I love the series. I didn't really care for the movie though. The series was miles better (in my opinion). If they do decide to make a new movie, they would make a sequel to the series not the original movie for the people wanting a sequel to that. Hopefully it does happen. It might even do better than Twilight's opening weekend.

I would love that, but...doesn't anyone remember how pissy SMG got about being asked to do another guest spot on Angel? She said she'd never play Buffy again, because she didn't want to get pigeonholed into the horror genre. So...while I'd be crazy excited to see BTVS: The Movie brought to life, it's just not gonna happen.

SMG didn't get pissy. She was unavailable to film the guest spot for the episode of ANGEL they wanted her for. When she did become available they were filming the series finale, and they felt her having her on the show would overshadow that ANGEL had grown past Buffy to stand on its own, so they chose not to use her. She used to be very much against Buffy as a big screen film, but was recently quoted as being curious about the Sex and the City movie... maybe she liked what she saw and now thinks it could work on the big-screen... not to mention her career is hardly flourishing...

Nightmare 1919, They did follow up on BTVS after season 7. Season 8 has been going on, albeit in comic book form, and has been completely amazing. As much as I would love a movie, the comic does more for me as a fan than a movie would. They can do a lot of the things they wanted to do in the series due to budget constraints. Every true BTVS fan has to read the comics, they are worth it.

if it's a cool movie with a little cleavage steller cast and and good writing i'll check it out.. just as long as it's nothing like movies like twilight or covernant.

I'd LOVE a new Buffy movie. But who am I kidding, I'd love to watch a film Joss Whedon wrote involving paint drying.

Would be shit, why not Buffy meets the Chuckle Brothers. Would make a better film

i was never one for the teen drama show, but i always loved Buffy for some reason. perhaps the vampiric twist on the teen drama grasped my attention. any way, i would love to see a movie if it included the cast from the tv show, which i believe is what we're talking here.

The show was a HORRIBLE PIECE OF SHIT. Then again, so was the movie. Keep on sucking the neck of tween garbage, you charlatans.

Personally, I'd much prefer if Joss Whedon would try and focus on making a season 2 of Firefly. I mean, a feature film based on a tv-show rarely becomes any big success, at least to my knowledge (but making a tv series based on a movie usually works quite well). But yeah, if Joss Whedon makes BtVS: The Movie, I'd probably go see it anyway.
