Beyond the break you can take a peak at some early teaser art for John Carpenter's newly titled RIOT (originally SCARED STRAIGHT). Produced by Nu Image, Nicolas Cage is still toplining the film that follows a death row inmate who is helping to reform a group of juvenile delinquents in a Scared Straight program when a large-scale riot breaks out. The screenplay was written by Joe Gazzam.
I think Cage takes too much flak....He isn't the greatest actor around but Lord of War, the Weatherman and 8MM were great in my opinion (I'd probably be alone on 8MM...). Also Ghost Rider was a fun if incredibly forgettable film.
I can't believe some of you douche bags saying that Cage is a terrible actor. Have you ever seen Leaving Las Vegas, or Adaptation, or Face/Off? He may have a habit of picking horrible projects, but come on, the guy can certainly act. This project sounds awesome. It's a Carpenter film where the main character is an anti-hero who's facing a large anonymous force under a definitive time constraint. It sounds like a cross between Escape From New York and Assault on Precinct 13. It's set in a prison, so you know there won't be a lot of CGI. I have a feeling you guys will be eating crow when this comes out.
I wish this movie would be un-(Nicholas)caged. Seriously, him being in it (just like the movie KNOWING) makes me want to see it maybe half as much as I would have.
Nicholas Cage has nothing to do with whether I want to see this movie or not. It's not rocket science... it's a John Carpenter action flick. Cage has had a number of decent roles in his career and a number of horrible roles, but I'm sure people would whine whether it was him, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, or any number of highly paid celebrities. It sounds like a fun popcorn concept and will brainlessly entertain me for a good hour and a half or so.
This'll be Carpenter's first movie in years, and it'll only be one of the 20 or so that Nic Cage makes this year,so if you just play the numbers it should be pretty good.
ew. cage is gross and old. hes not even hot. why not hire someone hot, WHO CAN FUCKIN ACT!!!!!
count me out untill I see a trailer. A GOOD trailer that has me SOLD.
hopefully this puts carpenter back on the map so he can make some kick ass horror movies again. horror hasn't been the same without him. and after seeing his Masters of Horror episodes I know he still has it.
if not for the fact that Nicholas Cage is related to Francis ford Coppola, the man would have no career. And I've heard the whole he changed his name so he could avoid being hired because his uncle is famous before. People have always known he was the nephew of Mr. Coppola. On a couple of rare occasions he has been good, but 98% of his movies suck. He brings down what would be good movies.
Hey mathu6xortem, Vampire's Kiss was great, I love that movie! :) Wild at Heart and Weatherman were also pretty damn good. I'd rather see Cage in a movie than some jackass like Will Smith or Shia LaBeouf.
I can't wait for this movie! It looks so awesome... Just kidding. Based on the tagline alone, I want to stab my eyes out. Now THAT would be a "riot." Harharhar.
I believe that the expertise of the great John Carpenter could make this a very watchable movie. I just hope Nicolas Cage doesn't fuck it up. UNCAGED??? Give me a break.
Uh, I think going from Ice Cube to Nicoli Cage is definitely an upgrade for John C.
Leaving Las Vegas, Vampires Kiss, Raising Arizona, etc..
With a little luck (and a good screen play) this could kick off another "roll" for Carpenter.
"ew. cage is gross and old. hes not even hot. why not hire someone hot, WHO CAN FUCKIN ACT!!!!! count me out untill I see a trailer. A GOOD trailer that has me SOLD. "
This is why women typically don't get genre films.
Count me out too unless the trailer is great. Carpenter is washed up (it is sad but true) and Cage is just dull and boring. And as for him being a great actor, explain "The Wicker Man"!
I would like a new John Carpenter movie to be good, but after Ghosts of Mars I've lost confidence in him.
