Inside Directors Off 'Halloween' Sequel

Bloody Disgusting learned today that French directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have officially left Dimension's planned sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween, which they had been writing over the past few months with the intention on directing. No replacements have been mentioned, but we're told that the Weinsteins have been asking Zombie to return as a producer. After the monster success of INSIDE, Maury and Bustillo haven't had much luck with Dimension as their remake of HELLRAISER also fell through. We're rooting for them here at BD and are dying for them to get behind the cameras again soon.

Am I the only one who's actually happy over this news? We don't need anymore remakes... especially not sequels to remakes.

This is good news, well for me anyway. I have submitted a script for H2 and they decided to go w/ this duo so now maybe I can get the ball rolling again.

But he died at the end of the movie! He's very resilient, he once recovered from having his head chopped off by the old 'it was someone else in disguise' trick.

As long as Busta Rhymes is in this sequel I will be happy. Nothing like getting an iconic figure getting his ass kicked by a hasbeen rapper

What in the sam hell is wrong with Dimension? Yeah we don't want the guys behind one of the best & most memorable movies of late to do with us? Get your collective heads out of your fat cat collective asses!

can't wait to see Michael Meyers walking around the hospital with half his head blown off.

How do we know if Michael got shot in the face/head. Remember they (Laurie & Michael) were kind of stuggling over the gun, so who knows if he got shot in the face, or neck, or shoulder, or chest. Who knows what will happen? Time will tell..

Midnightsailor, this doesn't mean the sequel is dead. With those two as directors, this sequel could have been good, but now it's almost a certainty it's going to be just as awful as Zombie's remake.

Well I think that sucks, i was looking foward to seeing their take on Halloween..But watever happens, they need to get someone in hurry, not that i want them to rush things to the point where they don't think it out thoughrolly. But i just can't wait to see Michael Myers back on the big screen. I loved Rob's Halloween and I think people critisize it WAY too much. Just having the Halloween franchise back up and running is great in my eyes. I am a huge Michael Myers fan and Tyler Did a great job!! Can't wait for another Halloween!!!!

"Weinsteins have been asking Zombie to return as a producer" God, no.

RZ's Halloween wasn't really as bad as everyone is saying I agree it isn't great and was in some ways a let down from the build up but it was a good remake. Most everyone says "It was nothing like the orignal" well it wasn't suppost to be it was a reimaging. I hated it in theaters but once the Unrated version came out and watched it I reall liked it and thougt it was a pretty good film. A sequle wont be so freaking bad. I am looking forward to it and think (depending on the script and who does it) it will be good.

I agree with u brandons121 that in theatres it wasnt that great but once the unrated version came out i looked at it totally different. Maybe it won't be soo bad to have Rob come back..i mean why not? Maybe it will have some good continuity with him coming back.First of all they only gave him a year to make the remake and in a years time he did a great job considering how much Rob had to do in that short time. Rob is a very smart guy and very talented. Just go get the 3 disc they recently released and watch the documentary. You come to appreciate the movie a lil more and know what it takes to make a movie in that short time. He had full creative control and for him to even take on this responsibilty takes BALLS. i mean c'mon Rob's Halloween is WAY better Than all the sequels that came after John Carpenters Halloween. The masks were all Cheezy and the acting was horrible and they just got to be ridiculous..At least Rob got some actors with accountability who have been proven in the past and the mask in Rob's Halloween was by FAR the best mask in the franchise..to me the mask is a very important aspect of Michael Myers among other things of course. And Tyler and Deag Did fentastic job's playing young and adult mike. You have to take it for what it is..Rob did a great job and i just cant wait to see a follow up..theres nothing like watching michael myers slash his way back into the big screen!!!

Those guys left Halloween and Hellraiser? Maybe it is them and not Dimension... screw em', there are plenty of capable directors and writers out there.

I wonder what warranted the release of these pioneers of horror? I mean, honestly, I would like to know how the creators of "Inside" could've possibly given "Halloween" so lackluster an outlook, to be taken off the project entirely...

I really don't understand why these two keep getting dropped. Makes me wonder if it was actually them walking away from Weinstien. Rob's was okay, but I was truly excited about this one. not that much anymore

Well, I personally liked every other Halloween movie better than Rob Zombie's. I just want to see some originality. We don't need anymore remakes or sequels. As far as I'm concerned, there's only one Halloween movie and that's the 1978 version when Michael had no back story or white trash family. Most importantly, he had absolutely no motive. Zombie's Myers is too big. The original Myers was scary because he was just a regular man. Not to mention, Zombie killed the scary and suspenseful score. I could really go on all day but, the point is, I'm tired of my favorite movies being destroyed by horrible remakes. There already is a good sequel with Michael in the hospital. It's called Halloween II (1981). The fact that I have to put a date behind all of my favorite films, so that no one will confuse them with some dumb modern take, pisses me off!

They should get zombie back to direct it. The first one was fucking fantastic. Fuck anyone who dont think the same.

i was looking forward to the french directors take. But hay that's dimension for you. Michael will be back sooner or later slashing his way on top of the boxoffice.

5:42pm, November 14, 2008

well, i get what your saying Midnightsailor..The original can never be duplicated or topped. It's a classic..but in no way does Rob's or anybody elses ruin that. John Carpenters will always be there to fall back on. Ya it was scary at the time but that shit isn't scary anymore. You watch the original now and in no way is it scary and it has lots of potholes some shit doesnt even make sense..its slow and pretty boring actually..without the score it wouldnt be nothing...dont get me wrong man i still love it no matter what.. but times have changed and after watching the original 100 times we(I) need a change of pace...Rob's stands alone also i dont look at it and say " it ruins the original"..if we don't like the sequels and remakes then watever..we always have john carpenters to fall back on...no halloween or any horror movie can really be scary anymore. We are too old to be "scared" of michael myers anymore..we have to look at it on just the movie aspect..ya rob's has it's fuck ups but what horror slasher flick doesnt..i give credit to the new halloween..it's more realistic and rob's michael is still a "real" man...not some zombie or anything like that..just because there is a back story doesnt mean that it makes him less scary...he will never be scary again...as long as michael is back slashing thats all that matters..

Wait...it was the director of Martyrs that worked on Hellraiser, not the directors of Inside. Well, without the involvement of the directors of Inside I no longer care about this Halloween sequel/remake. What is the point? They had two of the most talented people working in this genre and all they're concerned about is getting back Rob Zombie as producer. Let them make this movie, you're not going to do any better (unless you can get Cronenberg or Brad Anderson...which ain't gonna happen).

I think Alexandre Aja could be great for this. Loved the remake of Hills Have Eyes.
