Bloody Disgusting learned today that French directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have officially left Dimension's planned sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween, which they had been writing over the past few months with the intention on directing. No replacements have been mentioned, but we're told that the Weinsteins have been asking Zombie to return as a producer. After the monster success of INSIDE, Maury and Bustillo haven't had much luck with Dimension as their remake of HELLRAISER also fell through. We're rooting for them here at BD and are dying for them to get behind the cameras again soon.
This is good news, well for me anyway. I have submitted a script for H2 and they decided to go w/ this duo so now maybe I can get the ball rolling again.
But he died at the end of the movie! He's very resilient, he once recovered from having his head chopped off by the old 'it was someone else in disguise' trick.
What in the sam hell is wrong with Dimension? Yeah we don't want the guys behind one of the best & most memorable movies of late to do with us? Get your collective heads out of your fat cat collective asses!
How do we know if Michael got shot in the face/head. Remember they (Laurie & Michael) were kind of stuggling over the gun, so who knows if he got shot in the face, or neck, or shoulder, or chest. Who knows what will happen? Time will tell..
Midnightsailor, this doesn't mean the sequel is dead. With those two as directors, this sequel could have been good, but now it's almost a certainty it's going to be just as awful as Zombie's remake.
Well I think that sucks, i was looking foward to seeing their take on Halloween..But watever happens, they need to get someone in hurry, not that i want them to rush things to the point where they don't think it out thoughrolly. But i just can't wait to see Michael Myers back on the big screen. I loved Rob's Halloween and I think people critisize it WAY too much. Just having the Halloween franchise back up and running is great in my eyes. I am a huge Michael Myers fan and Tyler Did a great job!! Can't wait for another Halloween!!!!
RZ's Halloween wasn't really as bad as everyone is saying I agree it isn't great and was in some ways a let down from the build up but it was a good remake. Most everyone says "It was nothing like the orignal" well it wasn't suppost to be it was a reimaging. I hated it in theaters but once the Unrated version came out and watched it I reall liked it and thougt it was a pretty good film. A sequle wont be so freaking bad. I am looking forward to it and think (depending on the script and who does it) it will be good.
I agree with u brandons121 that in theatres it wasnt that great but once the unrated version came out i looked at it totally different. Maybe it won't be soo bad to have Rob come back..i mean why not? Maybe it will have some good continuity with him coming back.First of all they only gave him a year to make the remake and in a years time he did a great job considering how much Rob had to do in that short time. Rob is a very smart guy and very talented. Just go get the 3 disc they recently released and watch the documentary. You come to appreciate the movie a lil more and know what it takes to make a movie in that short time. He had full creative control and for him to even take on this responsibilty takes BALLS. i mean c'mon Rob's Halloween is WAY better Than all the sequels that came after John Carpenters Halloween. The masks were all Cheezy and the acting was horrible and they just got to be ridiculous..At least Rob got some actors with accountability who have been proven in the past and the mask in Rob's Halloween was by FAR the best mask in the franchise..to me the mask is a very important aspect of Michael Myers among other things of course. And Tyler and Deag Did fentastic job's playing young and adult mike. You have to take it for what it is..Rob did a great job and i just cant wait to see a follow up..theres nothing like watching michael myers slash his way back into the big screen!!!
Those guys left Halloween and Hellraiser? Maybe it is them and not Dimension... screw em', there are plenty of capable directors and writers out there.
I wonder what warranted the release of these pioneers of horror? I mean, honestly, I would like to know how the creators of "Inside" could've possibly given "Halloween" so lackluster an outlook, to be taken off the project entirely...
I really don't understand why these two keep getting dropped. Makes me wonder if it was actually them walking away from Weinstien. Rob's was okay, but I was truly excited about this one. not that much anymore
Well, I personally liked every other Halloween movie better than Rob Zombie's. I just want to see some originality. We don't need anymore remakes or sequels. As far as I'm concerned, there's only one Halloween movie and that's the 1978 version when Michael had no back story or white trash family. Most importantly, he had absolutely no motive. Zombie's Myers is too big. The original Myers was scary because he was just a regular man. Not to mention, Zombie killed the scary and suspenseful score. I could really go on all day but, the point is, I'm tired of my favorite movies being destroyed by horrible remakes. There already is a good sequel with Michael in the hospital. It's called Halloween II (1981). The fact that I have to put a date behind all of my favorite films, so that no one will confuse them with some dumb modern take, pisses me off!
i was looking forward to the french directors take. But hay that's dimension for you. Michael will be back sooner or later slashing his way on top of the boxoffice.
well, i get what your saying Midnightsailor..The original can never be duplicated or topped. It's a classic..but in no way does Rob's or anybody elses ruin that. John Carpenters will always be there to fall back on. Ya it was scary at the time but that shit isn't scary anymore. You watch the original now and in no way is it scary and it has lots of potholes some shit doesnt even make sense..its slow and pretty boring actually..without the score it wouldnt be nothing...dont get me wrong man i still love it no matter what.. but times have changed and after watching the original 100 times we(I) need a change of pace...Rob's stands alone also i dont look at it and say " it ruins the original"..if we don't like the sequels and remakes then watever..we always have john carpenters to fall back on...no halloween or any horror movie can really be scary anymore. We are too old to be "scared" of michael myers anymore..we have to look at it on just the movie aspect..ya rob's has it's fuck ups but what horror slasher flick doesnt..i give credit to the new halloween..it's more realistic and rob's michael is still a "real" man...not some zombie or anything like that..just because there is a back story doesnt mean that it makes him less scary...he will never be scary again...as long as michael is back slashing thats all that matters..
Wait...it was the director of Martyrs that worked on Hellraiser, not the directors of Inside. Well, without the involvement of the directors of Inside I no longer care about this Halloween sequel/remake. What is the point? They had two of the most talented people working in this genre and all they're concerned about is getting back Rob Zombie as producer. Let them make this movie, you're not going to do any better (unless you can get Cronenberg or Brad Anderson...which ain't gonna happen).
I think this is great news. Inside was great and I would like to see these continue directing outside of Hollywood and especially away from the Weinsteins whose horror credibility is sinking fast.
This past Halloween I was able to have my 5 cousin's over which age range for them is 8-14. We watched Halloween 1 and 2 and then watched RZ's Halloween. They thought the original's were boring and cheezy, which I hated I was hoping it would scare them. They loved the music that did scare them but that was it. Now RZ's Halloween had a 100% different effect it scared the crap out of them. The "old" stuff doesn't scare anymore so yeah I have no problem w/ the remakes and stuff as long as they are good which RZ's was good. i was like 95% of the people who went to see it, I HATED IT because I was comparing it to the original. Once I watched it on DVD and did not do that I realized it was a very good film and the new 3 disc w/ the making if is amazing so props to Zombie for that. I can't wait for a new Halloween. I think we need something besides these FUCKING SAW MOVIES!!
see thats wat i mean..good expirement brandons121 to have ur cousins over...the old halloweens just arent scary..not sayin that RZ's is scary but it is a good slasher flick...comparing RZ's to JC's is ridiculous...2 totally different films...as long as it's a good movie i dont care if it's a remake, sequel, prequel watever!! as long as it's good..simple as that..now adays it seems loke sequels are better than the originals..not necassarily in horror...HALLOWEEN!!! lives on!!!
It doesn't do any good for Dimension to hire anyone with any sort of talent or vision, since its eventually Bob Weinstein's vision that gets sent to theaters. Might as well just hire some no-name hack; at least he/she won't "disappoint" us as a solid director or directors would when their movie gets hacked apart by Bob and his cronies.
Brandon21, it's different strokes for different folks. I get chills with a lot of horror movies(they are more suspenseful and psychological), but RZ's Halloween, or movies like Hostel do NOTHING for me. And it's not me being hateful towards them, they just AREN'T scary. You have kids reacting the same. You'll have some kids thinking the old movies are cheesy, and others thinking they are brilliant. Everybody's different. It's the reason why everybody has different tastes in music. Not everybody likes hip-hop, ska, death metal or blues. Like, believe me, you might actually find some kids who are more into ABBA than Miley Cyrus, cause people all make their own personal discoveries in different directions. While my peers were all waist deep into gangsta rap and grunge in the early 90s, I was highly into music from the 50s-80s. Others will never get over their "I'm so goth, I love the Cure" phase, and there are some girls who still secretly hold on to their original New Kids On The Block posters. Everybody's different. I've actually met a LOT of younger kids into classic horror movies. It's not for everybody, but they exist.
ACTUALLY, YOU ARE MISTAKEN AMERICANGODS it was the directors for inside that were working on the Hellraiser remake. they were yanked from the project shortly after barker was pulled from the production
Bottom line: remakes should not be compared to the originals. Why?: Because 95% of the time (if not more) the original will win the battle. Rob Zombie's Halloween was absolutely fantastic and actually brought some balls to Halloween... and I am a huge fan of the original Halloween films, but let's face it. They don't have much balls.
My skin crawls just to hear the name ROB ZOMBIE and HALLOWEEN in the same sentence. I hope that inbred doesn't get involved in any way if a sequel were to happen. BTW, I love how Midnightsailor realizes how stupid the Halloween remake was and his spelling is good, and PIII loves the remake and his spelling "SUX". LOL, I wonder if IQ's have anything to do with the preference in those movies.
I agree I think they are retarded as well for liking RZ's Halloween over JC's Halloween. I'm just sayibg that in the 70s people were tuned into the culture of that film because it was the 70's and now days kids are into this shitty culture like Miley, Jonas, etc and (in my opinion) shitty movies like SAW(s), Hostel, etc. But since RZ's Halloween was more early 90's and close to there culture they liked it. Now Halloween 4 scared them which is my 3rd fav. of the franchise, 5 did nothing for them but give them a few kills they liked. Same w/ 6 and resurrection (2 of the worst Halloween's) however H20 they liked. They liked Halloween & Halloween 2 but wasn't scared by them. I wouldn't mind Rob Producing the film or even directing it buy not writting it.
In a way, it's kind of good news. I mean, i am sorry for the French directing duo that they got sacked. I hope they manage to eventually get behind the camera of a brand new horror film once again very soon. But i'm still of the opinion of how CAN they make a sequel if Laurie pretty much blew his brains out in the end?! And usually there's no cure for a bullet to the brain, it is usually VERY fatal.
there is no need for sequel to this piece of shit remake. i seen the remake again this year at a haunted house they were showing it. figured id give it a chance maybe i missed somethin the first time i seen it. it still bored the hell out of me. wasnt scary at all. i LOVED the original. that dude that played loomis no comparrison to the late donald pleasance. that taylor scout cant act worth shit. sorry for anyone who actually likes her. no need for this sequel to a shitty remake. to me if the sequel would get made it is nothing but to me disrespect for both jcs halloween and halloween 2. nothing tops the originals.
100% correct there HorrorChick, nothing tops the original. But it wasn't meant to be anything like the original. It was meant to be a reimagin something different something in the 90's not 70's. I thought Scout did great as Laurie it wasn't the virgin or little girl next door it was a little edger, it was more 90's. As far as Malcolme as Loois I think he did a great job as well as good as Donald? NO WAY, but he was good. None of the charactes were meant to be copies of the original. Even Michael was different. I liked somethings w/ the new Michael and some i did not. I look forward to a sequle and maybe it will be great and maybe not time will tell.
YOU KNOW WHAT Gore_Freak08...THIS ISN'T A FUCKIN SPELLING CONTEST YOU FUCKIN IDIOT..AS LONG AS YOU GET THE POINT OF WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY FAG...YOU GUYS JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL OF THESE REMAKES AND SEQUELS AND SHIT...THEY ARE GOING TO HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT..SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM JUST DON'T FUCKIN WATCH THEM..SIMPLE AS THAT..YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE ORIGINALS TO FALL BACK ON..AND I JUST MISSPELLED SOME WORDS ON PURPOSE JUST TO GET TO THE POINT...IDIOT!! ROB ZOMBIES HALLOWEEN IS THE SHIT!! FUCK YOU FOR THINKING OTHERWISE Gore_Freak08
I love both versions of the movie. Maybe thisa duo was not meant for this project. Maybe it will still happen, I hope it does. Personal attacks over opinions and differences, although sometimes amusing, are a bit much. Relax people, they're just movies.
Inside wasn't that great so I'm glad the directors are off the project. Acting was bad, unrealistic measures. The cops acting, lol she kills off 3 cops? As I said, the man and vision for Halloween 2 is Stevan Mena or Gregory Jacobs who directed Wind Chill.
Inside was a helluva lot better than the Halloween remake. I think the duo would be better off making another original kickass horror flick in their homeland. As far as the sequel goes, why not get someone like Adam Green or Joe Lynch? Or, as Know it All Joe stated, Stephen Mena. He did do a very good job on Malevolence. Or maybe even Brian Bertino. Who knows?

hmm with the guys from inside working on it...it might have been good cause I love inside. Either way, as long as the sequal is good, Im there, regardless even if RZ does it...suck or not, I'll check it out.
BllodBanker, you nailed it, dude. That scary suspense Atmosphere is what was missing in my opinion in Zombie's Halloween. I see no man than Stephen Mena to write and direct. His Malevolence film was a homage to Halloween and other slashers. He went through hell to direct that, maxing his credit cards, one point going to jail with no permit to direct lol. His brutal Massacre comedy film was fun and he has made the prequel to Malevolence which stars Michael Bein (who should have played Sheriff Bracket.) Bertinto is another guy who delivered a nice suspense tone atmosphere in the Strangers which I surprisingly loved.
ok, i dont think that they should make a sequel to Zombie's Halloween. Personally, i LOVED that movie, i really like his writing and style of directing. i do like how it ended and made michael meyers die (or so it seems). And i also dont like the movie Inside, i thought the directing was pretty good, yeah, but i didnt like the story much. i didnt read up on it because i wanted it to be a surprise cuz it was supposed to be such an amazing movie but i thought it was pretty bad. so i just dont want this sequel to be made AT ALL
Yes, Tyler Mane has to go. I agree, Mena's the guy for this. Although Bertino would be a good choice too. But the atmosphere in malevolence reminded me exactly of Halloween. I'd like to see what Mena could do with a big budget.
I can't wait no matter who makes it. I do hope Zombie signs up as producer since he won't write/direct. At least Tyler Mane is back to play the best Myers.
please dont replace Scout, that would suck... she already played the part in the first one, don't fuck up the continuality and put someone knew in there and i though Tyler Mane was pretty good at playing Micheal...
Once again, HALLOWEEN stirs up more emotion than any other movie/remake. It is the "Casablanca" of horror. The inevitable remake would not make sense to change the actors wether you like them or not. I totally agree that the original is the best. RZ brought a whole different vibe to the movie and made it his own. I admit it has grown on me after a few times. There are 2 choices, watch what you like.
There is no need to replace Tyler Mane. He was a great "Michael." He made Michael scary again. Now the original Michael was "the Shape" which made him terrifying, in RZ's he was huge and fast which made him a different kind of scary. Scout did well, she screamed well. Replacing her would be a mnistake. Like Umbilical Noose stated it will fuck up the continuity of the series. I want the sequel!
Tyler Mane made Michael look silly. I never took Michael seriously and RZ is a horrible writer. I have his rough draft of the script, man I'm glad he never filmed some of the garbage he wrote, but still the script was poorly written. To make Michael scary is to make him 6 ft 8? He was scarier of being a normal size man. Mena would do the Halloween sequel justice. Only if hollywood would let Mena make big budget horror. Malevolence and Brutal Massacre both were good indie films. If RZ would have stuck with the prequel and made a plot of characters within Smith's Grove Sanitarium it would have worked. I heard rumors from imdb.com that one writer submitted a plot that had Michael being transported back to Smith's Grove, but someone ruins that plan and frees michael, The someone is Michael's dad, then Michael stalks Lorie and company on a college campus who are getting an old dorm transformed into a haunted house for Halloween. It had more of a back story to Michael's days at Smith's Grove and a nice twisty ending of Lorie being confronted by her father and Michael when Loomis shoots Mr Myers and fires a shot at Michael when he falls into an old elevator shaft, Lorie stabs Loomis which is told she ends up in Smith's Grove and goes through horrors that Michael went through at Smith's Grove and of course Michael comes there.
