Paramount Vantage - who has yet to release CARRIERS - is getting into the remake business, developing a feature redo of the Australian horror film Lake Mungo, which premiered at the American Film Market this past week. The big news for fans of QUARANTINE, THE GRUDGE and THE RING is that Vertigo Entertainment is producing. Read on for the skinny.
Sold under Arclight Films' genre division Darclight, "Lake Mungo" tells the story of a teenager whose apparent death sets off a series of paranormal events. Frightened by what appears to be otherworldly activity, her family discovers secrets about their daughter as well as what lurks beneath Lake Mungo. The original film was shot in a sort of faux-documentary style, but the new version will be a narrative adaptation.
"Keeping with the Vantage tradition of releasing edgy and unique films, 'Lake Mungo' is a supernatural mystery that goes beyond the typical horror fare," Vantage president Nick Meyer said.
Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison along with Adrian Guerra and Joel Anderson, the film's original creator and director, brought the project to Vantage and are set to produce. Arclight's Gary Hamilton negotiated the deal.
