I agree that this "right story" business sounds like code for "the studio isn't sold", because there was a fair amount of negative word of mouth once the first film was released and the execs fear a lackluster sequel performance. BLAIR WITCH 2 tanked, as did TOMB RAIDER: CRADLE OF LIFE, as much because audiences were wary of "getting burned" again after finding the first films in those franchises less than the sums of their hype. Something tells me Paramount would like to cash in on CLOVERFIELD, but feel far safer pursuing proven franchises like STAR TREK and INDIANA JONES. It's the same reason why Sony passed on the chance to make a sequel to their $350 mil grossing turd GODZILLA - less than half of the audience that saw that film would even bother to see a Part 2. Sadly, the longer Paramount, Reeves, and Abrams wait, the less likely it will ever happen.
