AFM '08: 'Paranormal Activity' Sells Like Hot Cakes, Sequel Planned

Some huge news for Oren Peli this weekend as his feature film debut, Paranormal Activity (review) has been selling like hot cakes at this week's AFM. The Blair Witch-esque supernatural shocker has been sold to Icon for the UK, Australia and New Zealand, Metropolitan for France, Svensk for Scandinavia and RCV for Benelux, with deals closed with Korea Screen in South Korea, Village Roadshow in Greece, Golden Village in Singapore and Eco Films in Portugal. The kicker is that more offers were on the table, including local-language sequel rights with buyers from Russia, Japan and South Korea (now that's a first). DreamWorks holds North American rights to Paranormal Activity, which screened at Slamdance earlier this year and tells of a couple haunted by a demonic spirit. Rumor has it that the remake has been scrapped while the original film is tightened up, although that has yet to be confirmed.

Sounds good to me. I've been dying to see it since I heard about it a while back.

This movie flat out rocks! I'm curious how they plan to tighten up the original film though, its only like 70 minutes long.

Good thing they scrapped the remake of this film, just release the original. Hopefully it gets released soon.

I have been DYING to see this film. Mainly because there have been a ton of reviews (both from critics and regular folks) saying it may well be the scariest film ever. I hope they scrap that stupid remake idea and just give us the real thing. Actually, let me put it this way to Dreamworks: I understand that money and appeal are important - so realize that Blair Witch was made for 16,000 and ended up making millions and Paranormal Activity has already been made on a cheap budget and is supposed to blow Blair Witch away. So don't waste money trying to fix what ain't broken with a pointless remake. And don't tone it down thinking that we can't handle being scared shitless. There are an army of people who live for those cruel body dismemberments in the Saw movies - so we can handle this. Bring it on...........

Aren't you proud of me; I made it through that whole long comment without saying 'fuck', making fun of the Prom Night remake, or referred to how stupid the folks at Lionsgate have gotten lately. :)

Paranormal Activity is the greatest genre film of our time. Period.
