A turning badass
(Report of our special correspondent in Paris Evil Seb)
It is under a fine typically English rain that I arrive in front of the old workshops of the Lafayette Galleries at Saint Denis in Parisian suburbs. It is there that the production of the Horde posed its luggage in this end of turning. It is as a distinguished guest whom I am received by the members of the production who immediately make me visit the places, immense, on board a small carrier, in force on the set, by me specifying that I have the right my to strolland speak with which I want means of transport, about the moment, of course, which I disturb nobody during the catches. I arrive on the principal plate of the morning and the enormous vêtue team doudounes is already with work. It should be said that the plate is not heated and that it reigns there a temperature hardly bordering the ten degrees. I benefit from it to discuss a little with the two realizers who, in spite of their tiredness, will be of a kindness and an unbounded availability throughout the day.
With the program of the morning, a scene of transition which seems not to raise the enthusiasm of the team. They make the job but without more. As Benjamin Rocher entrusts it to me “It is not easy of shooter small scenes like that when, the day before, you ace makes a large scene of action with three hundred zombies”. I take a little retreat and observes all the team with work, the technicians prepare the following plan, improve the lights, regulate the last details of the decoration and the make-up while Yannick Dahan MIME the scene and gives indications of play to the actors. With far, the observers déboulent while running on the plate. Covered with blood and of wounds in all kinds, they observes by far while hopping on the spot to be heated because some are vêtus of a simple covered tee-shirt of false blood. The two realizers start to lose patience. On the plate the small hitches multiply and make wastes an insane time with all the team. One does not imagine the mass of problems which a machine-gun in figure can cause wedged in a door. The team, very young, demene on the set, Yannick Dahan smoke cig on cig while its assistant Benjamin Rocher sings an extract of the Tortoises Ninja II (Go Ninja, Go Ninja Go!!). In spite of some light hitches, good mood reigns. Time presses and one needs the intervention of the assistant realizer to give everyone on the right way. Thirtyminutes later, the plan putting in scene the main characters will be in limps. One installs the plate for the continuation and the actors (Claude Perron, Jean Pierre Martins, Eriq Ebouaney and Yves Pignot) vêtus of simple tee-shirt thread a doudoune quickly and benefit from the interruption to come to discuss with the team and the observers. As Yannick Dahan will entrust it later to me: “Here not of places for the divas, the actors behave and regard themselves as any member of the team”.
The two strapping men, coffee a goblet in hand, the tenth since the beginning of the day for Yannick, benefit from it to make me discover the scenes with the horde of zombies shootés the day before. All that I can say it is that certain plans are straightforwardly epic and really impressive. If all the film is of this quality, that is likely to make very badly. The morning continues quietly between waste of time, tiredness, coffees, cigs and valves rotted. In short, elements of a turning lambda. The hour of the pause arrives and I accompany the two realizers for a small discussion on film and the cinema in general. One very sympathetic moment. They excuse inintérêt turned scenes this morning but promise to me: “You will see this aprèm, that will be bonnard, y' will have baston, firearms and zombies”. “Ouais, one has a scene well badass in forecast.” specify Yannick
One hour later, everyone is of return on the set. Only Jean-Pierre Martins with the look pointing out Tuco of the Good, the Rough one andthe Gangster, is awaited on the plate. This time, as promised by Benjamin Rocher, there are action, firearms and zombies. All the observers bind themselves around the set to see the team stuntmen to regulate the scene under the air satisfied with the realizers. Yannick Dahan gives its indications to the actor “You do it to me Badass Jean Pierre… Badass you see… advance you, you raise the head, you leave the firearms and bam… bam… bam… bam…!”. The repetitions last for ever but the scene requires installation. About thirty observers enter in scene. First catch… Yannick apparently reinvigorated (but the always broken voice) shouts “Cross! More aggressive the zombies, gueulez, move, run, one is not at Rollin what. Jean Pierre, points out you: badass.” Benjamin, with the combo, enough. The second catch will be the good one.
Place in a plan requiring of the firearms thus distribution of helmets antibruits. The gun is charged to the maximum because Benjamin Rocher wants “a noise of ouf and whores of flames”. Indeed, the noise is deafening but the plan is perfect. The day ends in a scene of baston. The stuntmen and the choreographer regulate the combat while the two realizers discuss a little with the variation “One has really monstrous stuntmen and actors who pètent the testicles” dixit Dahan. The day finishes, all the plans envisaged are turned, Yannick and Banjamintakes time to discuss with each appear while the technicians dismount the set. I take leave by thanking the two strapping men and in their wishing good luck. Yannick Dahan excuses lack of time which it had to devote me. No the Yannick problem, if all the realizers were like you, the cinema world would go from there only better. Badass!
(I thank François Hassan Guerrar for the organization without fault for the day, Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher for their availability, their reception and their kindness)
