It was officially announced today by CEO Courtney Solomon that After Dark Films has acquired the rights to showcase Adam Gierasch’s Autopsy and Jody Dwyer’s Aussie horror pic Dying Breed as part of its After Dark Horrorfest series. The Horrorfest lineup is nearly complete with the five previously announced title’s being THE BROKEN, THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3: REVELATION, FROM WITHIN, PERKINS' 14 and SLAUGHTER. Click here for more details on all of the films, or read on for the announcement and two new images from both films.

Adam Gierasch directed Autopsy, from a script he wrote with Jace Anderson and E.L. Katz. Adam and Jace previously collaborated as writers on the Dario Argento film, Mother of Tears, and are currently in production on Night of the Demons that Adam is directing. Autopsy stars Robert Patrick (Balls of Fury, Terminator 2), Jessica Lowndes (‘90210’) and Jenette Goldstein (Aliens) with Ross McCall (‘Band of Brothers’). Jessica Horowitz, Steve Markoff, Bruce McNall and Warren Zide produced. In Autopsy, a group of young partygoers are taken to an isolated hospital after a car accident. Once there, they become trapped in the hospital along with a number of helpless patients. Laura Ivey and Dana Lambert of After Dark Films brokered the deal with Peter Hoffman of Seven Arts Pictures who represented the filmmakers in the negotiations and is handling the international sales of the film.

In Dying Breed, two couples penetrate the Tasmanian wilderness in order to prove that an ancient species known as the Tasmanian Tiger still exists. What they find is a species much more horrifying than they ever imagined. Jody Dwyer directed the film based on a script he penned with Michael Boughen and Rod Morris. Nathan Phillips (Snakes on a Plane, Wolf Creek) and Leigh Whannell (Saw I and III) star. Michael Boughen produced the film through his Ambience Entertainment shingle alongside Rod Morris. Christopher Mapp, Matthew Street and David Whealy, of Omnilab Media Group whose previous credits include The Bank Job and the current Oliver Stone release, W, executive produced the film. Omnilab financed the film along with Screen Australia. Darclight Films is handling international sales. David Whealy negotiated the deal on behalf of the producers with Laura Ivey and Dana Lambert brokering for After Dark Films.

“Horrorfest III’s lineup is nearly complete and we are ecstatic to be including Autopsy and Dying Breed in our festival. These two worthy additions are sure to terrify our very discerning horror audience and live up to our tradition of bringing fans well made and interesting horror films that they can’t see anywhere else,” stated After Dark CEO Courtney Solomon.

"Adam wanted to make a horror movie for horror fans, plain and simple. We couldn't think of a better place for Autopsy than Horrorfest,” says producer Jessica Horowitz

“We’re proud to be partnering with After Dark on this film. We’re hoping that this will be the beginning of a strong relationship between Seven Arts and After Dark Horrorfest®,” added Seven Arts chairman Peter Hoffman.

“With Dying Breed we wanted to push the boundaries, wanted to stand out from the crowd and deliver to the target horror audience, which is exactly what Horrorfest does. Dying Breed and the Horrorfest are a perfect match” said producer/writer Michael Boughen

This year's Horrorfest sounds surprisingly GREAT. I wasn't a fan of the first at all, but then again I've only seen The Tripper (lots of fun), Dark Ride (HATED it), and Frontier(s) which was absolutely amazing.

The Tripper wasn't a part of Horrorfest... Anyway, the only one I'm interested in seeing in theaters at this point is DYING BREED, which I've heard is very good.

these sound like good choices. I was beginning to seriously despair about AfterDark HorrorFest, but this year looks interesting.

Why don't they use movies like Midnight Meat Train, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Splinter, Repo, etc in the AfterDark Horrorfest? It would be a vast improvement. Just a thought.

Autopsy is pretty cool. It has an obvious re-animator feel to it. There could easily be a sequel too.
