Starting October 31 at Laemmle Sunset 5 you can check out midnight showings of JUST BURIED, a strangely sunny black comedy about a geeky young lad named Oliver (Jay Baruchel), who inherits a funeral home in a small town where nobody is dying. He and his embalmer girlfriend Roberta (Rose Byrne) then start bumping off townsfolk to drum up business. You can check out the official website for a gallery, the trailer and more.
Following in the tradition of the quirky black comedies of Paul Bartel, JUST BURIED is a sly horror film that is calibrated to induce smiles and squirms rather than screams. Writer/director Chaz Thorne’s darkly comic romance follows a geeky loner who unexpectedly inherits a failing funeral home and a female embalmer who captures his heart. When Oliver (portrayed with manic intensity by Jay Baruchel) takes over the family business, he soon discovers that it is going bankrupt, due to a shortage of deaths. But things take a sudden turn after a fatal accident points the way to a possible solution. Conspiring with Roberta (Rose Byrne), the funeral home’s embalmer and the town’s local coroner, the business starts making a killing – literally.
Featuring a talented cast led by geek god Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder, Knocked Up), Rose Byrne (Damages, 28 Weeks Later), and Graham Greene (Transamerica, Dances With Wolves), JUST BURIED exists in a farcical world populated by eccentric characters who quickly adjust to the unexpected. Combining a whimsical tone with the darkest of comedy, JUST BURIED wryly upends the graveness of death, finding macabre humor instead.
