This October Bloody-Disgusting was asked to help participate in Amazon.com's "Countdown to Halloween". Every Friday Amazon will feature a brand new horror list from regular B-D contributors. This weekend Amazon added Tex Massacre's Slasher Films 101 - Cutting Classics, which is the third of four upcoming lists. Last week we brought you Horror Guy Keenan's Top 10 Road Horror Films, while you can also check out David Harley's 10 Must See Ghost Films. Watch this spot every Friday for Tex's and my own list to be featured over at Amazon.

Fairly standard list. Some OBVIOUS great entries (Black Christmas, Psycho), but a couple of really questionable entries (The New York Ripper). What about Just Before Dawn? Madman? Rituals? Class Reunion Massacre?

I LOVE Just Before Dawn!!! But the idea was that this was gonna be "Slasher Films 101" the basics of the genre. Remember this is for Amazon readers not Bloody-Disgusting genre junkies! I tried to grab what I thought were must see films for the "merely interested". I went out a limb a few times. I tried to correlate the more obscure films to something an average reader or buyer would like. For example I thought someone who liked Friday the 13th, might dig on Bay of Blood or perhaps someone who only knew Bob Clark made A Christmas Story might be interested to know that he did Black Christmas. I gotta figure most people who saw the remake of that one never knew there was an original to begin with. So it's a nudge in the right direction. I totally defend the inclusion of New York Ripper as an extreme entry in the slasher genre. I know other people will agree with me there. I even included the original Prom Night...and I've been very outspoken on the podcast about how much I don't like that movie at all. But it was very successful (at the time) and I think people should see it. But, you're right it is an "Obvious" list. As I designed it to be. Perhaps later this week, I'll do a 15 obscure slasher films I love just for you guys! Remember this one was for the Amazon average Joe and for the chunkblower crowd!!!

Tez,I thought that was a pretty good list and writing for a site like Amazon you have to be going for a general crowd and not horror nuts like us. Some of the best lists are ones with movies you can actually find to watch. Keep rockin Tex i enjoy reading everyones blogs on here also.

Glad to see the original PROM NIGHT on the list - my all time fave slasher, along with HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. Those kids at Hamilton High and Crawford Academy sure had a hell of a time in school, didn't they? What about THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE or HELL NIGHT?

Very nice list man, I haven't seen half of them so they have been added to my Amazon Wishlist for future buying.

That was a pretty good list. It's obvious that there's just too damn many to list, but it was a pretty good list in terms of spanning the genre. It was cool that you included Bay of Blood and New York Ripper. That movie was seriously fucked up.

I concur with the mighty Davegr. Hellnight is a very under-rated fright flick. Linda Blair stars in that one. That film was a staple at my house during my highschool years. ziltoid mentioned another fav of mine "Rituals". I can't tell you how many pizzas & beers were consumed watching films like this back in the day. Another surprisingly good 80's horror flick is called "Hunter's Blood". It sorta' reminds me of a cross between Deliverance/ Rituals/ Just before Dawn, ect. "Out of the Dark" is another 80's horror flick I enjoyed. I actually favor Psycho II over the original, though I like that one as well. They just don't make 'em like they used to!!!! Happy Halloween to everyone!!! It even falls on a friday this year, perfect. Nothing like a nice cold Halloween night falling on a friday!!! Trick or Treat bitches!!!
