George Clooney in Talks to Topline 'The Birds' Remake

There's something fowl in the air, and it has to do with Universal Pictures' remake of The Birds. According to IMDB and various other sources such as the Metro UK, George Clooney is set to topline the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1963 adaptation of the a short story by Daphne Du Maurier. We checked with the producers who neither confirm or deny the story. Martin Campbell is attached to direct the film that is about increasingly vicious birds that terrorize a small town. Consider this a rumor until officially reported.

Have we not learned from PSYCHO (1998)? Seriously -- No Hitchcock remakes!

I think George Clooney should make like a seagull and fly over the [Michael] bay for this one. The script I read is horrendous.

That's like maybe one of the only things they could do to this project to give it any credibility in my eye's. It shocks me that Clooney would be in a Platinum Dunes remake though. But they did manage to get Gary Oldman for The Unborn. I don't know. I'll wait for something official.

Oh man. Remaking the Birds ... That's one hell of a stupid idea. One should simply NOT touch any Hitchcock movies.

I didnt like the original and wont like the remake. What happened to clooney being part of the pet semetary remake that would have been sic. I think if clooney did a hitchcock remake he should do north by north west that would be sic.

Huuuuhhh???? George Clooney? That's horrible...

Uh, did anyone see Disturbia, that was a sweet remake of a Hitchcock film, eventhough they didn't call it Rear Window, it clearly was! As far as The Birds, its a classic and if Naomi Watts and George Clooney are the leads, it could be pretty damn good, barring a good scipt and vision. You can't compare this to the Psycho remake unless this one is a shot for shot one as well. Besides, passing judgment on something that hasn't been made is a bit silly. But to each his own.

Clooney is a great actor, and even if this film sucks I am sure he will be the best thing about it.

CJ_01976 must have been drunk when they posted that. George Clooney is one of the worst and most overrated actors in Hollywood. Since I enjoyed seeing Platinum Dunes Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and because the Friday the 13th film looks and sounds terrific, I would see this. However if George Clooney is in it, forget about it!

Daysfan CJ is right on the money about Clooney he's one of the best actors working in Hollywood today, therefore being that you where drinking Raid today to even think such a thing.

I am a die hard horror fan. To be honest I am disappointed in the idea of George Clooney in The Birds or any horror film for that example. The only true movie I seen him in that I truly enjoyed was From Dusk Til' Dawn. Other than that I give a big BIG thumbs down to George Clooney

This is totally ridiculous. All of these remakes are bullshit and are out of hand. Is it really that impossible for someone to come up with something new and original? It's actually sad.

The problem is that people still see some of the remakes, so they make money and keep that machine rolling along the tracks. And not only do I think Clooney is a good actor, I think he is a great director too. "Good Night and Good Luck" was fantastic.

Wow! Why are so many of you against this? A. Hitchcock was one of the best in this genre? If todays hollywood elite wants to pay hommage to this incredible man where's the harm? I for one would love to have Hitchcock brought back and given the respect it deserves. Wishing AIDS and Cancer is a bit much and completely out of line. Have you ever known someone to suffer from these terrible diseases? Ignorant. Yes, I too long for the day of original scripts and screenplays, but some awesome remakes will do for now.
