TV: 'Ghost Hunters' Spinoff Gets Educated

Say what you will about Jason and Grant, but I love Sci Fi Channel's GHOST HUNTERS. Whether the experiences in the show are the real deal or not is beyond the point, the show is simply entertaining (if only they'd bring Brian back and get rid of that annoying Joe dude). After spinning off the series into "International" territories, Sci Fi is about the give the series a spinoff with a higher education. Read on for the skinny.

Sci Fi Channel has ordered a pilot for another spinoff of the popular reality franchise from exec producer Craig Piligian.

Tentatively titled "Ghost Hunters: College Edition," the show features a group of students going around the country to seek out paranormal activity.

The students will be guided by an experienced ghost investigator. Producers have not determined if any cast members from the other shows will be involved in the new project.

"Hunters" launched in 2004 starring two Rhode Island plumbers who investigate purportedly haunted houses in their spare time. The show has since grown every season and is now Sci Fi's second highest-rated series (after new drama "Sanctuary"). The Oct. 8 "Hunters" episode scored an all-time high of 2.7 million total viewers.

" 'Ghost Hunters' appeals to a wide demographic, and we felt the college edition would be a great asset to the franchise," Piligian said.

The first spinoff, "Ghost Hunters International," took the format around the world. The show debuted in January to record ratings and enjoyed a successful seven-episode run, averaging 2.4 million viewers. "International" has been renewed for a second season.

Sci Fi's "Ghost Hunters" franchise has been an on-brand and relatively affordable success for the network. The new show is sure to prompt comparisons to A&E's "Paranormal State," where Pennsylvania college students investigate supernatural claims. A&E launched "State" last year and, along with Travel Channel's U.K. impor

"Say what you will about Jason and Grant"...??? What does that mean? Those guys are great! Especially Grant, that guy is so down to Earth and friendly, that if he's making all this shit up and "acting" for the camera...he's the best actor of all time in need of an award!

These guys rule and we watch the show all the time and they are from my home town. We see them all the time. My wife is a dog groomer and she grooms grants dog all the time. His wife brings it in to petsmart. I met him once before in a target store in warwick RI. We where doing christmas shopping last year and we saw him and i told him how we where fans. They are real down to earth people.

they should change the name of this show to "What the hell was that?!" or "Did you guys hear that?!" it's just a couple of plumbers rummaging through people's houses looking for "cold spots". the sci-fi channel should re-do that old MTV show FEAR.

I love the original GH, esp. Grant, Jason & Steve, but are they trying to drive it into the ground? What's next, Ghost Hunters Miami??? GH Int'l sucks! I'm glad they got rid of Brian, he was annoying as hell and shipping him overseas, I'm apparently not the only one who thought so. Now, GH college edition? Who gives a rat's ass?! Why do they always have to mess with a good thing?

I love Ghost Hunters & Ghost Hunters International, but isn't there already kind of a college edition playing on A&E called Paranormal State?

i'm glad i'm not the only one who notices grants great " acting ". he embelishes every little noise into a full blown apperition. jason can take that K2 meter and stick it up his ass. i've had my own experiences in the paranormal and it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

jturn.... it's obvious that if you have watched the show at all, that it has only been one or two episodes. If anything Jason and grant are the MOST skeptical ghost hunters in any show or special of the kind. GH is badass, I was so sick of those shows where they try to prove the paranormal with the paranormal (psychics, mediums, etc...) A good scientific approach makes everything more believable.

Ghosthunters is hands-down the most honest paranormal-investigation show out there. It doesn't take compulsive viewing to see that Jason and Grant are stand-up guys who take their work seriously, and are more concerned with doing a thorough investigation than they are with entertaining the audience. Any extra spooky sounds are thrown in by Sci-Fi channel producers who are most likely just trying to add suspense to a show, especially when nothing paranormal is found (and with their debunking, there are plenty of times when little is found). Ghosthunters is fantastic, and I also agree that Brian belongs with the GH "home team" (though his antics annoyed some), I still like him, and am glad he's at least with GHI.

I love me some GH. I can't watch any other paranormal show without doubting it now. Gotta agree with the whole "running it in the ground" thing. GHI was enough. Jay and Grant are awesome, Steve is a badass, Tango is hillarious and Kristin is beautiful. Bottomline, GH rocks!

Love GH. Their approach is so great. I like to see all the debunking and then once in a while they really find something paranormal. And Steve is the best!

"Paranormal State" is so unbelievably fake that you'd have to seriously be either mentally retarded or extremely naive not to see it. The show is a joke...I mean, it literally made me laugh when I attempted watching it because everyone's reactions are so forced and phony. GH is the only show of its kind that's ever seemed genuine. Everyone on it is great and they all seem real, and unlike every other show they're trying to DEBUNK the claims, not prove them.

Not so sure about this one. I enjoyed the International version for the locations that they went to and the history. But this sounds rather corny. I agree that it's like CSI, or better yet, Saved By The Bell College Years. Though I'll never understand why the shows don't monitor the locations multiple nights.

i for one, love GH. I suppose if they can do this new series right, it wouldnt be so bad. ill take all the ghost hunters i can get.
