Fans of Chuck Palahniuk (Choke, Fight Club) get excited as another one of his novels is being adapted for the big screen, this time it's a thriller fit just for Bloody-Disgusting! Coming from new production company "New School Media" is Haunted, a chilling tale of survival that is set to be adapted and directed by Koen Mortier, who blew people's minds with his crazy crime dram EX-DRUMMER. Read on for the details.

Former ICM lit agent Brian Levy has launched a management and production company, New School Media. Levy's first move under the new banner is optioning the rights to Chuck Palahniuk's novel "Haunted."

Koen Mortier will adapt and direct.

"Haunted" revolves around a group of characters who answer an ad for a writers retreat and unwittingly end up competing in a "Survivor"-like scenario, where the host withholds heat, power and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show or film that they expect will be made from their plight.

Palahniuk, author of nine novels, is popular with Hollywood filmmakers. His books "Fight Club" and "Choke" have been made into films, while "Invisible Monsters" and "Survivor" are in development.

Mortier, who also works as a commercial director, made his directorial debut with "Ex-Drummer," which premiered at last year's Toronto Film Festival.

Levy's client list includes Mortier and Andrew Lau, whose "Infernal Affairs" served as the basis for Martin Scorsese's "The Departed."

Additionally, New School Media has also inked a first-look deal with ArtFire Films ("George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead").

Ok that is wrong. The host doesn't withhold heat, power, and food. The Writers themselves sabotage everything in order to make the ordeal seem more tramatic. It's more of a cabin fever type thing. They even resort to cannibalism on a whim. This is the most disturbing book I've ever read on some levels. If they do this write, which I doubt they will, if could be freakin insane! At the very beginning a guy gets his intestines prolasped into a pool filter and has to gnaw them in two! Tell me thats going to hit the screen and I'll wait in line for tickets baby!!!!

This book is one of those works that is un-adaptable. I cannot fathom how it can work as a film, no to mention how they're going to get half of the story hooks past the mpaa. good luck with this one.

This is ridiculous. There is no way they are going to be able to sincerely turn this book into a feature film, let alone actually stay genuine to the story. What I don't understand is why Palahniuk even allows the rights to his stories. Choke was totally horrible...it had major plot points missing and it made the whole idea into some sort of joke. This will be a disaster in so many ways. I can only imagine how much will be cut out; it won't even remain the same story. The vision should be left to the author, and I don't know how any fan could actually be excited about this.

Yeah. Pearl Diving on the big screen? I highly doubt it. Still, this was a great book, and if done right, would be a great movie. While I'm dreaming, let's see an Evil Ernie movie too.

Haunted is a damn fine book. Curious to see how it would look on the big screen though... I'd love to watch an audience's reaction to watching the kid bite through his own intestines. That would be classic.

only David Fincher should be allowed to direct Chuck Palahniuk books.
