The one great thing about the original Friday The 13th films is that they had a sense of light-heartedness to them despite the bodycount pastiche; the characters were memorable and likeable, and the tone of the film always reflected the nature of its characters - fun and zippy. Platinum Dunes have yet to break free from the bleak hostility that permeates their films. I understand it's about a backwoods guy chopping up teens, and there's bound to be bloodshed, but PD's track record for focusing too much on the despair leads me to believe this will be an empty, depressing venture. Alot of the old kills had a hint of parody to them as well, which I liked. Crispin Glover getting killed with the one thing he's looking for, Vera getting shot through the eye because she thought Jason was Shelley, et al. I can foresee someone in this movie stumbling upon Jason and he brutally hacks him/her to pieces. I suppose that's fine if you're into that sort of thing, but a slasher film works more if there's an underlying hint of mordant humor behind the killings. Of course, this is just my humble opinion. I curse these remakes and such but I always end up seeing them anyway. I guess lambasting them is easier on me than getting my hopes up considering 99 out of 100 times, my lambasting was justified. We'll see, I guess.
