Scream 08: 'Saw V' Director's Cut, What About 'Saw VII'?

While at the Scream Awards after party we caught up with Saw V director David Hackl who has just returned from a trip to Japan to promote the latest SAW film, which arrives in theaters October 24th. He tells us that he can't wait for his director's cut to hit DVD next year as it'll have tons more gore and scenes arranged in different order. The director's cut is also approximately 14 minutes longer (give or take). In addition, we asked around to all of the SAW related attendees who all say, "SAW VII? Let's worry about the sixth film first...." Kevin Greutert is directing Saw VI for Lionsgate.

Can't wait for Saw XXXII. Zzzzzzzzzz. Seriously, this franchise is getting staler and staler with each new installment. I liked the first 2, but I can't get worked up about this film.

Please, make it stop. Boring soap opera garbage.

i really like all the saw films but i think 6 films and videogame within 5 years in plenty. KM

Him already saying that he can't wait for his Directors Cut to come out on DVD next year because of the scenes arranged differently and added gore sounds to me like he's not happy with the movie at the moment!?!? Secondly, absolutely sick of you fucking saw haters! If you don't like the fucking movies then why bother reading everything about them and then taking time to comment! Some people are so stupid it's unbelievable!

SAW NEEDS TO DIE.

What about the Director's Cut of Saw IV?

If just one of the people who criticize the SAW films for being "stale", etc. could actually come up with something more entertaining or inventive, I'm sure a studio would be thrilled to produce it and challenge the SAW series for those Halloween bucks. So far, though, all of the SAW-hating armchair "auteurs" seem able only to whine about this enduring and popular franchise without coming up with a single new idea of their own. You want SAW to die? Try creating your own fresh and shocking horror film/franchise. Until you can do that, you just sound petty and sad griping about this series' success and belittling its loyal fans.

there is a unrated director' cut of saw IV already

Actually, I doubt producers would want to produce anything and put it up against Saw. Despite the tiredness of the Saw series, they still manage to rake in money, and until they stop doing that (which will hopefully be soon), most studios are afraid to put other horror up against Saw. It's pretty much a fact that the Saw series "owns" October when it comes to horror -- and unfortunately, Lions Gate will take this series for all it's worth until the money runs out.

I guarantee you that if another studio felt they had a property which could genuinely challenge SAW and cash in on some of its October money, they'd get it on the screens without hesitation. The problem is, most horror movies being produced are no less formulaic, no more original, and often far less shocking to the sensibilities of average filmgoers than even the fourth and fifth installments of this ongoing series. Hate on it all you want, but the traps in the recent SAW films have still prompted theaters full of paying consumers to wince and turn away from the screen in shock and disgust - which is exactly what people attending the films want. And there isn't a damn thing wrong with that. Wishing the SAW franchise would end is a bit like hoping that the Tabasco company will stop making hot sauce. Those who enjoy Tabsaco sauce like it for the familiar but intense sensation it delivers, and expect that same familiar, intense sensation everytime they take a bite. Not only would it be foolhardy to expect Tabasco to discontinue their famous sauce and replace it with something else (or let someone else absorb their share of the market), but it's incredibly selfish of people who don't like Tabasco sauce to assert that those who do should never have another chance to eat it again. For the millions of people who love Tabasco sauce, there's nothing unfortunate about it getting a couple of feet of shelf space in the grocery store for as many years as possible - just like the millions of SAW fans worldwide, who derive great joy and satisfaction from having a new SAW movie in theaters every October.

the creators themselves are aware of the many movies they are making. maybe a break would be good and then part 7. Allthough I'm happy with 6 films and a game... allthough if you think... "Halloween belongs to ????" in 2011? :D

For me i could care less if they ever made another SAW Film,I dont like it,nor do i hate it. its good entertainment, after the movie is over you can go on with your life,on to the next movie. for people that KEEP watching every SAW movie that comes out then gripe about it.(WHY ARE YOU STILL WATCHING THEM)?? just go watch a REMAKE or somthing (LOTS of THOSE coming out.)The SAW Films are VERY Easy to figure out.change in somthing to watch besides (Freddy,Jason,Myers,Chucky,Ect.) only Saw film i didnt really really care for was SAW 2.the others imo are made nicely, dont know why Saw 2 just(Somthing bout iti didnt carefor) In future,i hope with franchise stays strong.made at least go to SAW 9? Ps. 15-20 Years from now EXPECT (REMAKES) to be made from SAW. With every other Generation (THE REMAKES START) *Awghgh*

That's cool. 14 extra minutes is a pretty big addition to a film. I just wish we could get a 2-Disc edition of "Saw IV", like we have with the previous three.

I like the story behind the Saw movies, but I think 6 of them is plenty. If they can't get across what they're trying to do in 6 installments, they need to just give up.

Where's Doctor Gordon? He's been MIA since the first Saw film. I hope they have some explanation to the character's whereabouts before the series officially ends. If they end this series without telling us about Doctor Gordon alot of people aren't going to be too happy about it. It's time to end this mystery. And if Cary Elwes does not return they should kill off the character by using a body double like have Amanda put him out of his misery while he was crawling his way out.
