There are rumors circulating on the web (one such place here) that Pamela Voorhees (played by Nana Visitor) has been cut from New Line Cinema's Friday the 13th. We have confirmed that not only has Pamela been cut from the film, but so has little Jason Voorhees (played by Caleb Guss). The news comes after a recent test screening in Long Beach, California where a handful of lucky horror fiends got to see Jason's new destruction. Obviously, this was a "test screening" so it's quite possible they could both reappear in the final cut of the film on February 13, 2009.
WHAT?!?!?! I'm done. Sorry, I'm out. No more faith or interest in the film. If this is supposed to be a re-imagining of Friday the 13th, you can't do it without Jason's backstory. This is just going to be a kill-the-horny-teengaers shitfest.
This is not good news! Justin, I agree. How the hell can you remake this film without the backstory???? It is the whole premise of this film and Jason's rage! Why would he seek revenge on the camp counselors if he didn't witness his mothers murder? What the hell is going on here? Damn! I want this to be great, not another crappy remake! What's next? Changing the rating to PG13??????
The question is, how old were these "lucky fiends" group? They were probably 18 to 25 years old with little to none horror viewing experience and more of a popcorn action psyche. They just want to see some guy in a hockey mask hack his way through the high school yearbook instead of knowing the back story.
So you were all going to go see this movie just to see a 30 second clip of Mrs. Voorhees and little Jason. You're all retarded. They sum up that back story in a campfire tale and we all know what happened. Watch for it in the DVD release, but it doesn't NEED to be in the final version of the remake. It's a a remake to the sequels, not the origianl. This is only a test screening anyway, not the final version. Quit bitching. I'm 25 years old with plenty of Horror viewing experience. So please, keep those comments for the 12 year olds.
well this sucks! its bad enough that none of the orignal cast is coming back (no andrea barbeau, betsy palmer, to name a few). oh id love to see the backstory now.........i agree w/ u dblock st7dust and justin....it prob. will be changed to pg13 our luck bc of the bloood will be to ooo so violent!
it does seem to be true which sucks. i was SO excited to see an updated version of MRS. V's decap scene. over at IMDB (on the Friday 2009 page) there's an entire list of the deaths in case anyone's interested.
horrorchick81, there is no "Andrea Barbeau" in the FRIDAY movies. and read the death list over in the FRIDAY 2009 board, there's NO WAY this will be rated PG-13. the deaths are pretty brutal.
what did you expect really, I was telling people this was crap from day one! All your going to get is Scream reimagined with a hockey mask. Who needs character developement and back story and motivation? Boobs and blood will do just fine right? May as well be Hatchet 2....
"This is just going to be a kill-the-horny-teengaers shitfest." -- This could be describing any of the 'Friday' films. You might be able to narrow things down by ending that comment with "...in 3D", "...on a boat" or "...on a spaceship", but they're all "kill-the-horny-teenagers shitfests" at heart. They're not exactly character-driven movies with well-written plots, are they? FWIW, I'm not knocking the series - by-and-large, they're entertaining kill-the-horny-teenager shitfests with an iconic slasher antagonist, IMO.
to the makers of this FRIDAY THE 13th 2009, PLEASE KEEP MRS. Vorhees' SCENES IN THE MOVIE!!!! it's VERY clear most of us REALLY want these scenes in this film. why do the producers think people can't sit through an 1hour and 45 minute movie (or even a 2 hour movie)?
if it was that long, there would be NO reason/need to cut these character-ish development scenes.
Let the bitching begin. You guys need to just shut the hell up and see the movie. This is not 100% true. Its a rumor. I want to see this from a official sorce. Not the idiots who start shit on the internet because they have no fucking lifes. This movie is going to rule. Anyone who thinks different can go screw.
test screenings are one way of proving the filmmakers have no idea as to what they're doing. If they did, they wouldn't need to test screen. Plain and simple.
i don't understand why this is a remake then. they should have aimed for another sequel. it would sit better with the fans and they wouldn't even have to bother with the origin story.
Haha, you're putting all your stock into a couple geeks over at f-13 films forum who claim they saw a screening? Hahaha. I'll wait for my own eyes to see the film before I judge it...
The_Bark, test screening don't mean filmmakers don't know what they are doing. It helps them get an outside perspective, instead of people who have been involved since day 1. They can really get a sense as to what works and what doesn't... makes the final movie flow better.
JUST RUMORS EVERYONE!
Now why in the world would the backstory be cut? That's just dumb,Thoses assholes have better not fuck this up! They need to put the backstory back into this movie and show little jason and mrs.voorhees for the whole world to see.
We've never seen any interaction between mother and son in the Friday movies. I was hoping we'd see them together in a scene and get some backstory of jason's life especially what about jason's father. Hopefully they put these scenes back in the movie or at least on the dvd or director's cut or something.
Fuller in interviews said that they had like over 2 hours (or something) of a film. they wanted to cut it down to (i think he said) 90-ish minutes or so. so that means we'll get a GREAT DVD! but i still want the Mrs. V scene in this movie. and the death list over at IMDB sounds spot on. i don't think it's a fake. the person posted a pic of the invite for the test screening.
Ugh. I really wanted to see Pamela and Young Jason. At least it's supposed to be good.
Favorite quote from that link:
I don't unnerve easy. There were quite a few parts that made me jump, and actually a scene at the beginning that was pretty gruesome that I just remembered (SPOLIER). My girlfriend, who usually scares pretty easy, had to leave the theatre for about ten minutes and go to the bathroom to calm her nerves. She's never had to do that and we have seen probably 75% of the horror movies in the last year and a half
If this is JUST a sequel, that would be fine with me. BUT if it is more along the lines of a remake, reimagining, ect, I will be incredibly disappointed in it. I think it would be great to have them in it, but honestly I could keep watching sequels even if it's the same thing over and over again!! As long as Jason keeps killing at Camp Crystal Lake for years to come, I'd be thrilled.
Sorry F13--Totally disagree. Test screenings is filmmaking by committee. It means the producers, studio, director, etc., do not share a common vision of what the end result should be. It means, let's get some other people's opinions, preferably the fans', because gosh golly gee, we're just not sure if this works or not.
Here's a great example of test screenings gone wrong--Dying Young. Yes, the Julia Roberts flick with Campbell Scott, who, oh my lord, was suppose to die at the end. But wait! The test audience said it was too sad, so what did they do? They changed it. Why they kept the title is beyond me.
The_Bark, i agree w/ you. i'd MUCH prefer a movie that's hasn't been 'deluted' (so to speak) by 50 different opinions by the general public as opposed to a director who knows EXACTLY what kind of movie he wants to make. "The Mist" is a perfect example (even if the ending WAS polarizing) of a director who stood his ground (Darabont) and made a film HIS WAY.
This is why Platinum Dunes should leave the horror genre to Lionsgate. Michael Bay--a douche--ruins pretty much everything he touches. Ever since I heard they inserted the Token Witty Black Guy into the script, I knew this thing was going to suck.
In my opinion, this movie doesnt really excite me and I love Firday The 13th. I like a few remakes but 80's horror seems more genuine.
These days you expect nudity and over the top violence and it just doesnt shock anymore.
All new age horror is the same and I really hope that they get this one right because it could have potential and I would love to see Jason back on the big screen.
Ps, I think Marcus Nispel did a great job directing the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Nope, thats fucking horseshit. I was excited for the final friday the 13th film. Kind of the icing on the cake to bring it back, at least above the level of Jason X. But after all this promise of explaining the story more with Mrs Voorhees and Little Jas, and now they are cut? Probably from the feature film? Its bullshit.
Damn, now they're going all ROB ZOMBIE on us with this remake? I'm sure there's gonna be like 19399292299487573 versions of the movie. Each one in a separate DVD to make the cash flow.
I was pretty stoked about this movie, but now. Man, my fears became reality. I mean, I try to give modern horror the benefit of the doubt. I say, "Yeah, there's been bad horror movies, and the chance we'll get another horrible horror movie is VERY BIG, but it could be a rare gem that goes against the grain of shit!". I hated the TCM remake and the Halloween remake. From listening to the guy at the Ft13 boards explain bits and pieces about the movies, this movie seems right up there with the others. What's sad is, THIS is what horror's become. This is what's "accepted" by people. Why?
Ok, first, what's with the name calling? Thats not necessary. Grow up. Second, for the record my comment about PG13 was sarcasm. I understand the final cut is yet to be done, I just want the backstory to be included with Mrs V and Young Jason portrayed. I'm still very much excited for this as I am a huge fan of the franchise. I welcome the new F13 happily! Lastly, test screenings and rumors? Maybe, but it gives the FANS something to talk about until our highly anticipated movie comes out. Haters, go elsewhere and attack other people. I simply could give a rats ass what you have to say. Bless your hearts.
Well, all I got to say is I hope a great movie doesn't get all hacked up because of a few people's opinions at a test screening....like what happened to Halloween 6.....and like someone already said...why do they have to cut it down?....why not a 2 hour movie?......three things I want to see in this film....(1)a back story including Mrs. V. and little Jason...
(2)the bag/hood before the famous hockey mask....and (3)I want to see his face
Well maybe if they don't show it, there will be a narrator telling us what happened before..."Once upon a time not long ago..perhaps a place that you've only seen in your dreams..." LOL.
I'm not surprised, but fear not. I'm sure when the dvd releases come out, there will be an uncut/director's version or something like that. I'll go a step further with Dainzig's idea. Maybe an opening sequence similar to a Star Wars film. "A long time ago, in a town called Crystal Lake. Then have the huge blast of music with the Friday the 13th logo, & have the opening storyline roll out with white letters with blood-spatter all over 'em. It's probably how Jason X should've started. Epic shit!!! LOL!!!
I was at the test screening. The movie basically acts as a part 3, it vaguely recaps the first 2 movies without actually showing the footage. It's treating it as though you've seen the first two movies and know the story of those, and I like it. Rather than try to one up the first two movies and do them better, it just leaves them be and creates a new film in the same line.
Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, I don't know how it slipped past me. My response; you might want to get the kids out of the room for this one.... Fuck this remake, fuck it with the Prom Night's remake limp little dick. Whoever made this decision should get seven shades of shit slapped out of him - or her.
This could be very dissapoitnting. Jason still looks like he'll be more badass than ever so I'm still looking forward to this movie.
