Last night Screamfest Horror Film Festival held the world premiere screening of Michael Dougherty's highly-anticipated Trick 'r Treat (trailer), which we caught last June at an early test screening. We have since revised our review to reflect the final cut of the film, while B-D reporter BC has posted his official review over at his website Horror Movie a Day. In addition, Dougherty chatted a bit about his future in the industry, all of the details can be found inside.
First he gave some details on his next project he's writing with Breehn Burns and Simeon Wilkins entitled CALLING ALL MONSTERS. He reveals that the film is actually a kids movie with Robert Zemeckis and Walt Disney Pictures. They're going to use motion capture like Zemeckis did with MONSTER HOUSE. He says the film was inspired by '50s movies with giant robots and monsters.
He also revealed that he's working on a new TV series with Warner Bros. entitled BITCHES, which is being produced for Fox. The show will follow four women in New York who happen to be werewolves. He called it "Sex in the City" meets HOWLING.
Lastly, he revealed that even with all the BS behind getting TRICK 'R TREAT into theaters, he'd love to do a sequel. His ideas range from having it take place in the future to having it take place on another location that takes local mythos into account, such as Louisiana. He also joked that he'd love to have the "school bus" kids back for the sequel, only by then they'll be going through puberty and it'll just be weird...
Whether or not you'll be seeing TRICK 'R 'TREAT soon is still up in the air, and supposedly the screening could help boost the release. Fingers crossed.
I was there last night. Let's just say if you don't see this movie while you can than you just missed one of the best horror movies in years.
Truly an amazing movie. It seemed like everyone in that audience loved it.
i really really wanna see this movie, this movie along with "HATCHET" seems like it takes FOREVER from hearing about it being made, to sitting around for quite a while before i have a chance to see it on flippin DVD
The folks at Warner Bros. are morons for not releasing it into theatre. I'd rather plunk down $10 this Oct. 31 to see it as opposed to yet another shitty Saw movie.
Warner Bros rather released unoriginal ideas and damn remakes like "Friday The 13th" and last time i hear they werent that excited about Friday The 13th. they know they do this to make cheap money...maybe they'll start to realized that they are releasing the wrong movies on home video and theaters.
Saw this at Screamfest. It was fantastic and absolutely lived up to the trailer. It was scary and creepy without taking itself too seriously. The performances, script and direction was top notch. Seriously. Why Warner chose a movie like Body of Lies as an October release instead of this is a mystery.
Really want to see this, the trailer looked amazing. I don't care if they put it out in theatres, go DTV, ya know, like Jack Brooks did. Which, by the way, that was a kick ass film. RELEASE TRICK R TREAT!!!
I saw it on October 7, at Sitges Film Festival (so I the world premiere can't have been at Screamfest, sorry!) "Trick 'r Treat" is a really entertaining movie. You will have a lot of thrills and a lot of laughts. It's like the kind of fun horror movie Fred Drekker used to shoot!
Hello kiddies! Coldblood here to reach back into the Halloween bag and pull out some harsh complaints and profanity. Let me start with; what the fuck is wrong with Warner Brothers? Why the fuck can't they get this fucking film released? It's been over two fucking years and we have to wait one more! I know you guys might think I am being too harsh here but when they dick us around for this long they should expect some 'less than kind' comments and reactions.
Everyone is talking about Saw 5 making a killing when it is released. I am not so sure. High School Musical 3 comes out the same day, and HSM2 got 17.5 million viewers for it's premiere. So imagine if even half those kids hit up the multiplex on the weekend of the 24th? The Saw franchise days of having a lock on the late October weekend may finally be numbered. And it would be funny if Jigsaw & Co. finally die at the hands of Zac Efron...
And isn't Trick r Treat being released straight to DVD by Warner Home Video now? I swear I heard that recently.
