We've been brining you regular updates regarding Adam Gierasch's remake of Night of the Demons, and now we've got even more. This morning we received the first image for the film, which is your first ever look at the house, along with a long synopsis detailing the plot. Production officially began on Friday with Diora Baird, Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena, Bobbi Sue Luther, Jonathan Beach, Michael Copon, Tiffany Shepis and Edward Furlong all starring (now that's a cast!). Read on for all of the goodies.

Synopsis

Maddie Curtis and her friends Lilly and Suzanne are ready for a great Halloween night. They’re going to a party thrown by their friend Angela at the notorious Broussard Mansion in New Orleans. Over eighty years ago, six people disappeared from the mansion without a trace – and the owner, Evangeline Broussard, hung herself.

The dark history only serves to enhance the Broussard Mansion’s appeal on Halloween. At the decadent, out-of-control party, Maddie and Lily run into their exes, Colin and Dex, while Suzanne parties it up. Good times end, however, when the police bust up the party. After the rest of the guests leave, Angela, Maddie, Lily, Dex, Colin, Suzanne and their friend Jason discover a horrible secret. Their cell phones don’t work. The mansion gates are now mysteriously locked. Soon it becomes clear that supernatural forces are at work at the Broussard Mansion, and that there may be more to the tale of Evangeline Broussard than anyone knew.

It turns out that the Broussard Mansion is home to demons that need to possess seven vessels to break free of an ancient curse. One by one the guests fall victim, transforming into hideous creatures. Only Maddie, Colin and Jason remain – but can they make it through the night and keep evil forces from spreading into the world?

Press Release

Seven Arts Pictures plc announced the start of principal photography of the new creature horror film “Night of The Demons”, today in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The film is a retelling of the classic cult picture of the same name and will be directed by Adam Gierasch who wrote the screenplay with his long time partner Jace Anderson. Both recently earned critical acclaim with Gierasch’s first feature, “Autopsy”. The story of a Halloween party gone terribly awry when six teens are stalked by demon spirits stars Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena, Diora Baird and Edward Furlong.

The demons from which the film gets its name have been created by the award winning team at Drac Studios, whose combined and innovative talents offer a rock solid history of providing unforgettable characters and creatures for film and television. Drac has earned numerous accolades for its efforts over the years including 2 Academy Awards® for "Bram Stoker's Dracula" and "Mrs. Doubtfire." They were also awarded the Technical Achievement Academy Award® for creating state of the art advancements in silicone prosthetic makeup appliances. The company has also received 6 Academy Award® nominations for the films: "A Beautiful Mind," "Bicentennial Man," "Titanic," "Roommates," "Hoffa" and "Hook".

Director Adam Gierasch couldn’t be more excited: “Halloween, loud music and demons are three of my favorite things, and I'm chomping at the bit to give them all to you in spades. We've got a great cast, spooky locations, and some of the best demons I've ever seen. It's time to rock!"

Seven Arts’ CEO, Peter Hoffman, adds, “I am very much looking forward to working with Adam again on what we hope will be a successful Halloween franchise. We have every confidence in Adam’s ability to deliver a thoroughly frightening cinematic experience!

Producer, Greg McKay, wraps up by saying “Setting the remake of Night of the Demons in New Orleans has been an inspiration, and has given the film an incredible look and feel. The locations are perfect and the audience is going to be amazed at the scope of this movie.

For nearly a decade, Seven Arts Pictures plc has remained a prominent full service independent producer and distributor of quality feature films. Under the experienced hand of Founder and CEO, Peter Hoffman, the company has distinguished itself as a consistent source for both art house quality films that boast “festival cache”, as well as highly-marketable big budget feature films that appeal to a worldwide audience.

Wow, that sounds really awesome!! They gave away way way too much in the film's synopsis, to be honest, but it sounds like a fun throwback to the original film (one of my Halloween favorites) and I'm really digging the cast.

I'll admit I was strongly against this when I first heard about it, but I'm really starting to get excited!

Even though I'm a huge fan of the original -- I seriously think this could be a fantastic remake. I hope they decide to put the demon-bat rape sequence in like they talked about.

I can't wait. I really loved the original and the first sequel, too. Do people really still get pissed about remakes? Are they truly pissed, or are they pissed because it's cool to be mad about a remake now? I remember people being pissed about a Toolbox Murders remake. The original was fucking garbage, save the first twenty minutes. The remake could've been a fresh, steaming pile of shit and it still would've had more to offer.

That's right. Keep on riding the mediocrity train. Maybe we'll get some more pointless remakes out of it.

The press release says "Six TEENS", and then lists off a list of actors in their 30's and late 20's. That's pretty rich.

we still need Linnea Quigley, where is she? Adam Giersch should give her a call.' Have you got any sour balls? yea? well ya must never get any blowjobs!; this still looks cool! cant wait ta see Furlong on the big screen again. He needs it.

Furlong needs to drop about ninety pounds. I wonder if instead of the infamous lipstick scene, they'll hip it up with a protruding iPod antenna?

Diora Baird, Shannon Elizabeth and Tiffany Shepis? Those are all the reasons I need to stick my ass in a theater seat, assuming this does hit theaters. The original was a cheesy classic, but it's not a flick that I mind is being remade. Psycho, Halloween and F13th were the ones they should have left alone.

when are we going to see an original horror movie. the original and both sequels were fine. why don't they go back to when the origin of hull house and show how it got haunted. this is just an idea.

Static
10:50pm, October 6, 2008

Maybe I'm naive but I think maybe the horror remake has finally turned the corner. All the upcoming remakes sound fairly promising.

BTW jturn, a Hull House origin film would be a great idea. Similar to Tremors part 4.

Considering how "different" this film is on aside of the use of two character names("Angela" and "Suzanne"), this one could really be just a semi-sequel that has nothing to do with the original. That's why I have no beef with it, cause it's not looking to stomp the original out of existance. There's enough difference in each other movie's history and plot to make them their own stories. I mean, the original was about demons killing and possessing people on Halloween, cause that's the only day that the gates of Hell are open(and once Halloween ends, they have to go back to Hell). The new spin is interesting, with there being 7 specific demons who have to possess humans to break some sort of curse. So this is a reimagining I don't mind.

2:36am, October 7, 2008

wow... that last paragraph of the synopsis seemed awfully misplaced. It was like an ordinary synopsis and then all of a sudden "everyone dies one by one, 3 remain, the movie's almost over, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!" Strangely placed spoiler. Unless that was for some reason intended.

8:03am, October 7, 2008

Okay,I'll admit I'm getting a bit of wood for this one. I watched the original only recently, and although i wasn't blown away by it, I dug a few things such as Angela's dance (which I hope they replicate!) and the spooky look of the house. But this remake could be a seriously cool and exciting movie. Wonder if it'll be released next October or just before? What ever date it lands on, I'm certain we'll get to see this before we get to see Trick R Treat in the theaters of DVD!

8:51am, October 7, 2008

Monica Keena, a great reason to see this but EVERYTHING about this sounds awesome! The original is one of my favorites!!!! Ahhhhhhhh! Im gonna go crazy in 2009!

"I'm chomping at the bit to give them all to you in spades." The idiom is "champing at the bit" NOT "chomping at the bit." Maybe it's representative of his way of remaking things. He's re-imagined english language to sound dumber.

dariofulci
11:28am, October 7, 2008

Champing and chomping are interchangeable in that phrase, but I have almost never heard anyone actually use "champing." Calm down there rick old buddy, there's no need for insults.

Who is playing Angela and when is this coming out?

magnaderalpha
5:13pm, October 7, 2008

Yeah, they should keep "Stigmata Martyr"(original Bauhaus version) in this movie. The song might be from 1980, but it's pretty timeless and doesn't sound dated. It was so timeless they used it 8 years after it was originally released for the original Night of the Demons, and it STILL rocked! That whole scene is one of the major "milestones" of that movie that everybody talks about. The other is the infamous lipstick/boob scene. One thing I liked about the original was the lighting. The house wasn't completely dark, but there were dim candle lights on the walls and the whole Stigmata Martyr scene was enchanced by the glistening fireplace and the flame's light bouncing around. The house being spooky was because of the awesome lighting that captured the atmosphere flawlessly. I only fear that, like most modern horror movies, the remake will focus more on colored lenses rather than actual lighting. Give a blue tinted lense so everything could look super blue and they don't have to focus much on actual lighting effects(which they seem to do a LOT in modern horror movies).

Chainsawman81
9:37am, October 8, 2008

I have always loved Night Of The Demons, it is one of my favs, and i think it is great they are remaking it, people worry to much about the remakes, if it sucks, oh well we still have the original and if not then we will have another awesome movie.as long as we have the same look and feel as the original and its hardcore with the horror and gore I will be happy,

Chainsawman81
9:45am, October 8, 2008

I also think alot of remakes are made because people love the movies and want to see more, there are many movies i have always liked and I want to see them remade, and peole are still making new horror movies like Hostel and Saw and others, so why complain if you dont want to see it then dont, lol.

magnaderalpha
4:04pm, October 8, 2008

I don't agree with you there. If you want to see MORE of those favorite movies and you want them to keep on living, that's what sequels are for. If anything, the whole ideal behind the remakes(the whole, "It's a rebirth of classic horror and we will create NEW series from them) hasn't held up it's promise. Mostly all of modern remakes aren't GOOD enough to carry a new series. The most you'd get is one sequel(or in the TCM remake's case, a prequel), then dead water. Suposably there's going to be a Halloween 2 and an Amityville Horror 2(which, sadly, is direct to DVD, meaning it wasn't good enough to carry a theater release). I think that's the problem, though. It really has nothing to do with remakes, but how remakes are approached. If you make a good remake and it becomes memorable, it has lasting power. The thing about the 80s and all those films they are remaking now is that THOSE original movies HAD lasting power. Enough to warrant sequels. Night of the Demons made it to become a trilogy and lasted nearly 10 years(1988-1997). Now, THIS particular remake I'm aware it will be campy, with boobs and gore by the mess loads, but that's how the original was. Other remakes, however, aren't really tackled with true dedication. Either that, or the people working on them who believe they have the concept of "what was great and memorable about the original" DON'T really have the RIGHT concept behind what REALLY made the original good. For instance, if you looked at the orginal NOES and say, "Okay, I know how to make the remake awesome! Teenage sex and lots of blood!" only because you remember the brief part where Rod and Tina are HEARD having sex, then Tina being carved up by Freddy, you missed the ball. I think a lot of these directors were kids when the originals came out, so they got off on all the gore and tits, but completely missed everything else important about the movies. The only thing I'm sad about regarding the Night of the Demons remake is that there is no Roger-like character. His presence in the original was so fresh. In every other horror movie, cowards are slaughtered like the rest of them, but Roger ran, jumped out of freakin WINDOWS and SURVIVED. Hell, he rescued the main girl and pulled her over the wall to safety. Roger's scaredycat awesomeness was one of the major factors that MADE the original so good. ^_^

I tried to be an extra in this but they were looking for emo/goth types. In the ad they named a bunch of crappy bands like Tokio Hotel as references for what they were looking for.

I get what u are tring to say and I kinda agree that they all havnt held up, but I am a hopeful person, and really I just want to see as many horror movies that can be made, if its a original or remake i dont care i just want then to keep making them cause I love Horror and I always will I want to see the new friday movie its a remake but i think it will be cool, and if not i still have 10 other jason movies, and many more to come down the years im sure.

You know I think that there are many original ideas floating around out there that could be made instead of remaking a classic...the Asian Horror flood is an example, The Host, Uzumaki, the original Korean version of The Eye,and on and on...I sorta get dissapointed in the constant remakes and would rather something I haven't ever seen before. I love Horror movies have always loved them and will go see this one when it comes out; but I'd prefer something unique and new...and I'm not complaining, just stating an opinion...
