After Dark Films is getting much closer to the end of the rainbow for this year's After Dark Horrorfest with the announcement of two more in their collection of '8 Films to Die For'. Joining the previously announced five films are the Australian horror-thriller Dying Breed and Adam Gierasch’s (The Mother of Tears) Autopsy. The two films will play alongside The Broken, Slaughter, Perkins' 14, The Butterfly Effect: Revelation and From Within in the theatrical festival that will run from January 9-15. Click any title above for more info on each film, or just click here for our After Dark Horrorfest film page.
Most of the After Dark films have been hit or miss. The best of the first two installments was last year's Frontier(s), which was beyond awesome. But aside from that one, I have yet to be really thrilled by any of them. And really, a Butterfly Effect horror movie? Is that really necessary?
Loved the first After Dark Horrorfest- only 1 of the 8 (the awful UNREST) was a stinker. Horrorfest 2 had 4 excellent ones (MULBERRY STREET, DEATHS OF IAN STONE, NIGHTMARE MAN, BORDERLAND (The "hidden" film FRONTIERS was awesome as well)), one average one (UNEARTHED) and three absolute stinkers (LAKE DEAD, TOOTH & CLAW, CRAZY EIGHTS
Hope the third fest has more good films than bad ones this time- I'm optimistic about DYING BREED and PERKINS 14, but extremely dubious about BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3!
I was so disappointed with Horrorfest 07 that I haven't yet bothered with 2006 selections. I didn't know until now that Frontières was considered part of it, and I liked Mulberry Street.
The site looks cool as usual. Perkins 14 sounds like a laughably absurd and overloaded plot. Slaughter and From Within may be good if they have the right scripts and directors. I'd like to seem them add a "creature feature" or a satanic/demon movie.
The first installment was a complete disappointment. Wicked Little Things was the only one close to being any good and it was mediocre at best! This "Horrorfest" seems to be all the rejected films rolled into this marketing scam to pay whats owed on them. An utter waste of time and money. Just wait a couple of months they will all be on cable by then. Save your cash for the quality films coming out not this garbage!
I've heard some great things about DYING BREED, so I'll have one Horrorfest movie to go and check out on the big screen.
