Live near Port Dover, Ontario? Then you're in luck! If you click here you can read about how you can be an extra in George A. Romero's latest zombie film, Island of the Dead (tentative title). Don't forget to send us photos using our contact form! In addition, AICN has already scored behind-the-scenes photos from the film (blurry!), while another article can be found over at Inport Dover. It's amazing how the entire world listens when Romero directs a new zombie movie. What do you guys think about it? Was it a good call to toss the DIARY OF THE DEAD sequel to the fish?
I think it will help people to not be hesitant to see a sequel right away it will allow people to get a flesh-new zombie adventure and it take away from all the complaning on how diary of the dead was filmed which I loved. I don't think he has just thrown diary of the dead sequel away just give everyone something new and different so he can come back to the Diary of the Dead Sequel. I'm looking forward to anything he has to throw at me. Bring it on Romero!
Diary of the Dead wasn't bad, in fact, it was much better than Land of the Dead in my opinion. The only part I didn't like was the nerd in the mummy wrappings...when he became a zombie. The way he lumbered around was hilariously bad. Was it supposed to be???
Always up for a new Romero film though!
count me in too! i LOVE the idea of the Island setting. i'm SO glad this is not going to be 'Diary of the Dead 2'. i thought it was atrocious. but for this, i'm SO in!
In my opinion, Romero has lost his touch. "Land..." and "Diary..." were both mediocre at best, "Island..." may very well disappoint again. However, I'm hoping Romero will prove me wrong and make a masterpiece.
I kinda like he's not doing a sequel. he never did that before, so why now. it also looks cool, and reminds me a bit of Zombi 2, maybe they could have a shark vs zombi attack too :D
Has anyone noticed that is was posted Friday Oct 3rd... but the casting and shooting wraps on Thursday Oct 2nd?
I needs me a Delorean!!!
Get me back...to the future!
"Island" can't miss. It'll be a return to the claustrophobic settings of the first three films. "Land" was too spread out and "Diary" literally took the zombie show on the road. This should be like the opposite of "Jaws", where the teeth will be on the island and safety is in the water...or is it? I can't wait!
I sincerely hope Romero is going to make a "serious" film, something more politically involved and less fashionable. Zombie movies with a twist of irony and satire are cool, but I'd like him to take it much further; he created (popularized?) the genre, after all.
Evil_Flip, in truth, all the movies are sequals. Dawn happend after Night, Day after Dawn, Land after Day. I myself would love to see a follow up to Diary, you know, see if they made it out of the panic room, found more survivors, etc.. Island sounds awesome, I'm just wondering one thing. It said it was an island off the North American coast, are we talking Northeastern coast here? Maybe one day GAR will make a Zombie flick showing the outbreak in other parts of the world.
Keep them coming! I love Romero's vision and can appreciate the full extent of his genius. People that say they don't enjoy these zombie films in some form might be clayed to "Seen them once, seen them all." state of mind. But then again, the core of my perception has always been inverted.
All of the Romero 'Dead' movies are a form of disjointed sequel, and none of them should really be direct sequels (where characters carry over). Romero's tactic of always saying with his films, "the outbreak is NOW" is what conveys his subtextual comments on society so well.
I think this will be really great. When I first heard the title, I though "Dawn of the Dead" meets "Zombie Flesh Eaters" and I damn near creamed my pants. Is Romero taking the zombie legend to the Haitian roots of Voudon zombies? Oops, gotta change pants.
As a huge zombie movie and Romero fan this is hard to write; but Land of the Dead sucked. And Diary of the Dead was OK but it was not as good as REC. George is a legendary filmmaker, but it might just be time to end it.
I hate to say it about George but I think he finally did what he said he never would. SELL OUT. I think his kids and wife have their hands up his back trying to get him to milk the zombie thing for as much as he can before he kicks off. Sorry George, but I have to rat you out. I mean there's nothin wrong with makin a buck dude, just don't piss on my shoes and tell me it's raining.
Have fun in your adopted country.
