A new Korean thriller entitled THE CELL PHONE just began production this week and will wrap around mid-December, Variety reports. The $3.5 million pic being directed by Kim Han-min is about an entertainment exec, played by Uhm Tae-woong ("Sunny"), who is intimidated by an anonymous stalker (Park Yong-woo) after losing his cell phone. SK Telecom will distribute the film in the first half of 2009.
Wasn't there already a Korean thriller called "Phone" a few years ago? This doesn't even sound that different in premise. And haven't we had enough of the haunted phone call genre? I doubt this will outdo Ringu or Takashi Miike's One Missed Call.
@americangods: Who says it's going to be about a haunted phone? It doesn't sound like it from the description. It's a stalker movie not a haunted phone movie.
And to the rest: Yes it sounds like a million other movies coming from Asia in the last years but we most also remember that they have given us some quite original ones so slating it before it's even been made is slightly ignorant.
