What does the MPAA do? Really? Today Lionsgate released the approved domestic poster for My Bloody Valentine 3D, which is the exact same as the San Diego Comic Con/international poster that was released this past July - only toned down a little. It's literally the same bloody heart image, with the red color drowned out a bit. What's the point? This is as stupid as when one sperm was removed from the SEED OF CHUCKY poster back in 2004. Inside you can check out the new image, along with the old one. Enjoy. In the remake Tom (Jensen Ackles) returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre that claimed the life of 22 people. Instead of a homecoming, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders. The film arrives in theaters January 16, 2009 - a month before Valentine's Day (go figure).
We are SOOOOO fortunate that the MPPA looks after the well-being of our innocent children. I'm sure toning down the red of the poster will make it more palatable for the under-9 crowd. Now if we've had enough of this nonsense, lets gather the family around for CSI. Is that a severed finger and a bloody wound. Kids! You don't want to miss the opening or you'll be lost throughout the episode. What do you mean your busy firing machine guns at zombies on your Nintendo?
As much as I despise the power the MPAA has over theatrical releases, I'm still glad I don't live in other countries where movies can literally be banned or drastically cut by the government. As retarded as this is, we should still be grateful the worst that could happen to a movie here is getting rated NC-17 or going unrated.
the brown vs. red is significant. It's a very different image. It's much less effective in brown. That' the point. The first image is somewhat stomach churning for job blow film goer.
Of course, neither version touches the f'ed up-ness of those Hostel Part II posters.
They are probably releasing it in Jan. because they don't want to have to compete with Friday the 13th. Smart move on their part, F13 would kill it in the box office. I would see both anyways!
HAHA!!
I think they shoulda made the right side of the guy lighter so it wasn't so annoying to look at. Instead they made it even more annoying by making the blood look darker, YAY SUPERDARK!
I don't understand why there's a shadow on the bloody heart on the left and then the guy's whole right side is blacked out. Poorly put together? I think so.
"We are SOOOOO fortunate that the MPPA looks after the well-being of our innocent children. I'm sure toning down the red of the poster will make it more palatable for the under-9 crowd." - Considering this movie will appeal to the under-9 crowd, I don't think this is such a big deal.
ScaryJerry, you said it best! Ziltoid, no offense, but are you a horror fan? You seem to dislike everything and never have anything positive to say. Not trying to start something here, I'm sincerely curious. Am I wrong? Anyway, changing the color means nothing and tones down nothing. You still get the point of it. I'm still excited for this.
They should probably change the title from 'My Bloody Valentine' to 'My Choccy Valentine', judging by the colour of the stuff the killer's smearing around. At least I *hope* that's chocolate...
I've never seen the original valentine but always wanted to, from what I seen its looks GOOD. I'm going to search for it online. I will be seeing this one though, not sure about when it first comes out. I'm still perparing myself for friday the 13th. Hope it's good. I'm a true horror fan and hate when remakes go terribly wrong. (Like freddy vs jason) I think the image with the blood is better but, the left image would be perfect for the black and white movie release!
You must rent the documentary "THIS FILM HAS NOT YET BEEN RATED" which exposes the secretive and inconsistent process that the MPAA uses to essentially censor the movies its Christian-based organization deems unfit for the public. The MPAA wields a lot of power and can make or break movies or people it dislikes. However, the big studios, stars & greased palms always get preferential treatment.
ziltoid, i agree. the original MBV is awesome. i love the unique setting in the mine. the only bad thing regarding the movie is that it was (no pun) hacked to death by the MPAA(?). so much gore scene were cut that at times it's OBVIOUS that it's been chopped. that being said, i'm REALLY excited for this remake and i think it's going to be good from what i've read on it.
The bloody image is better, IMO. And the MPAA sucks.
Zariff: You seriously have to see the original 'Valentine.' It's one of the classic slasher staples. I saw it in the theater during its original run (I was 10...I know) and I wish I could see if for the first time again.
OMG this is is stupid, it wasn't toned down..it was just the color that changed from Red to Purple. But still love the poster either way..haha!
